I think sequels would be much easier on the timeline. Considering that Gen VI takes place years after Gen I/III, Ruby and Sapphire remakes wouldn't make a lot of sense, unless they did weird time travel crap when connecting with X/Y or disallowed connection with X/Y and made all of the new...
