I just realised something

It seems so shallow to me now, to try seem more intellectual than you truly are, on the internet. I think it's probably the most fake thing I've seen, and done for that matter. It perplexes me. I think I see now, how over seriously people take things online. I just read a VM someone sent to another person, being all serious business, trying to seem like they were apart of a hierarchy of some sort, but really, it just looked stupid. I much prefer the aesthetics of the online world as a past-time. Like making a game, learning new skills, enjoying doing art, working on projects with other people. I'm so tempted to quote the vm, but I'm not going to. But, it just seems so immature to me now. People trying to sound incredibly intellectual about things to impress others. I know that might be what a forum is about, which is probably why I'm best staying in the creative discussions area.

    Sigh.

  • It's easier to type intelligent words and have the time to read over them and make it "perfect" rather than to come up with them firsthand in person. I think that has something to do with it. Cause trust me, I'm painting a big picture with this right now. I would never say what I'm typing out loud, or at least, not so fluently. But it does usually come off as an arrogant thing to do. I think I might know the person you're talking about though...

A thoughtful vocabulary only comes off as arrogant if you don't know how to use it (ie pseudo intellectuals).

It's not about vocabulary. I talk like this normally, so I would type how I speak a lot of the time. But it's this pretentious garbage people have been spewing. It's kind of embarrassing to read. And I'm no saint in this but I have seen so much worse.

Wait I'm confused now what are you talking about? People trying to sound deep or people trying to participate in topics they can't handle?

  • I know. I think I know the person you're talking about. I talk smart sometimes because people may thing I'm a stupid kid if I talk like normal. But I talk like this in rl too.

  • Kevin being pretentious online, people. Eh. Only wanting to impress people something I'm quite guilty of unfortunately. Don't regret that mindset in the slightest.

When I get angry my pseudo-intellectual-ism comes out, but then I see someone else who replied to the same thing and are less angry about it, and then I feel really deflated because I feel like they handled the situation much better than I did.

  • I get you. I come and spend time on the internet to get away from the pressures of being an intellectual. I'm supposedly exceptionally smart, but you probably wouldn't know it from talking to me here because I don't try to bring it into an environment in which it does not belong. The internet is a place to relax, to mess around and have some fun, and people who try to bring terms of intelligence into things are just self-gratifying narcissists, for the most part.

I mean, people should try to be thoughtful and intelligent in their posts. That goes without saying, because it makes the forums a better place to be. But I won't accept people abusing that and getting all superior, especially those who falsify it. They're just turning the very spirit of PC into a farce.

  • The cynical, overly-intellectual people on this forum annoy me greatly. You can come across as a thoughtful and intelligent person without being a belligerent ass.
