So, apparently there was a lot of info-dump for X/Y recently. I want to take this time to go over each of them and my thoughts on them, but to summarize, none really got me excited me about the games, some of them disappointed me, and one really creeped me out. And the major burning questions that remain unanswered.

*"Fairy"-type. Really? That's the best name they could come up with? I mean, come on, if you're going to create a new type, give it a cool name, like the Magnesium Phosphate-type or the Tetrafluoroethane-type.
*October 12 release date. Fine with me, as it's still plenty of time before my birthday.
*Pokemon-amie. Otherwise known as a virtual way to "touch" your Pokemon. Sick and creepy. When I first heard about this, naturally the first thing that came to mind was To Catch A Predator.
2ulxw0z50s_zps200ba559.jpg

I can only imagine this feature was created by someone with a really weird fetish. Needless to say I will not be engaging in this sort of questionable behavior.
*I really hope riding Pokemon is optional. It's not something I would do willingly. This is what gas-guzzling, V-8 powered behemoths are for, folks!
*Sky Battles: No opinion, except how would these work if you don't have a capable Pokemon in your party?
*Horde/5 vs. 1 battles: Two observations. (1) Seems completely unfair unless the enemy Pokemon are several levels below your own, and (2) because it's unfair, the evil team had better utilize this battle style when they battle you.
*Multiple rivals - nothing wrong with that idea in and of itself, but when your character and all of them are sitting together at a table, that seems to suggest that y'all are buddies. Houston, we now have a problem. I've said this preceding every Pokemon game release as of late, but I WANT TO SEE AN EVIL, SADISTIC RIVAL FOR ONCE! No more "buddy" rivals - they turn out to be spineless pushovers every time. This whole "friendly rival" thing is like a virus that's infecting every Pokemon game, and there's no attempt to even try to vaccinate this problem. I hope (but I'm not expecting) that at least one of them goes crazy and turns evil.
*New Pokemon: All are rather meh. I'm probably going to use a team composed mostly of old Pokemon anyway.
*Default character names: I'm going to name my character either "Lisa" or "Ashley" anyway, so that is a moot point.

Well, despite the disturbing Pokemon touching simulator (which I hope is completely optional) and the fact that the rival situation appears to be "the same old, same old, only multiplied in quantity," I'm still somewhat excited about these games (although if it wasn't for an attractive female progatonist, I doubt I'd be interested). Nothing announced tipped the scales in favor of X/Y, but nothing knocked it off my "to buy" list either.

But two questions I still have:
1) What do the final evos of the starters look like? As those forms, not their first stage forms, are ultimately going to decide which one to choose, and whether or not they get fired from my team later on.
2) Cat Pokemon: Which ones will be included, and will they be version exclusive? The presence of cat Pokemon in the wild will ultimately determine whether it is X or Y that I buy.

I'm sorry but I have to say this to you and everyone who thinks this game is a pushover.

I don't get all of you guys' hate. I love the game's ideas so far! This is probably because I naturally get into new things (dubstep, for example) but I don't get the people who sit around complaining about the "new direction this series is headed." I mean, I've complained about every Gen since the time I was disgusted with the Gen IV, but then a couple weeks in I realized that they are actually not the end of Pokémon they are so bad, so I either decided to deal with it and move on to another series (Fire Emblem, perhaps?) or try to find the good in every game, as I did with both Gen IV & V.

1) And your reason for directly quoting me was...? Considering that the character that you play as is the one you're looking at most often, it only makes sense that I don't want her looking like Sasquatch. Or Hilda.

But yeah, part of me wishes she was ugly so I wouldn't even have to deal with another Pokemon game.

2) Oh, God, that travesty. How did a game that has you touching some of nature's most vicious beasts even get green-lighted - and why wasn't it slapped with a "Mature" rating and restricted to being sold only in adult-entertainment stores?

3) I'm not against a new type in general, but "Fairy" just sounds so childish and immature. Then again, I suppose I can't expect much from a franchise that chooses a tiny yellow rodent with a creepy grin as its mascot.

Also good reads:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnesium_phosphate

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetrafluoroethane

4) Already moved on to Fire Emblem (the whole reason I bought a 3DS, and it beats the pants off anything Pokemon). And really, there are only two new ideas that I have real issues with - that creepy touching simulator and the whole riding Pokemon thing (for the record, I never particularly cared for the way Fly and Surf had you riding your Pokemon - just like cars are for land transport, private jets and luxury yachts should have been used for air and water transportation). For the Fairy type, I just have an issue with the name chosen for it. For the "horde" battles, I actually point out a good secondary way it could be used - the bad guys ambushing you. And my complaint about the rivals is because the series isn't going in a new direction with them - instead of creating an all-new scenario where the rival turns (or starts out) evil and moves up the ranks of the villainous team to become a top leader in the organization, we get stuck with another (group of) "buddy"-type "rivals" who are bound to once again have personalities that grate on my nerves.

Everything else, I'm mostly neutral about. The revealed Pokemon, like Gen V's, are pretty much "middle of the pack" - none that stand out as being especially awesome or especially horrendous. The 3-D graphics, 8-way movement, and the main female character are currently my favorite aspects of these new games, and are enough to maintain my interest. At least for now.

But admittedly I'm not good with change. I still want cars to be huge and styled with no regard to aerodynamic efficiency, I still use a standalone VHS player, and it wasn't until last year that I even got a cell phone (no kidding - I got all through college with my trusty cordless landline) and I still don't text (Holy bad grammar, Batman!) I also hate Windows 8.

Echoing what droomph said. Wouldn't it be nice to physically pet, hold, hug, etc a real pokemon? Well we have a touchpad. WTF is the big deal? Touching a pokemon with a stylus. We're not doing heavy petting or anything sexual- so why are you looking into it that way? It's a game for all ages: and the same goes for the fairy thing.

No, I have never had the desire to pet/hug a Pokemon, just like I've never had the desire to pet/hug a VCR remote, spoon, DS charger, wrench, power drill, modem, .357 Magnum, cutlass (either the sword variety or the Oldsmobile variety), surface-to-air missile, or any other similar tool/weapon. (Granted, many of the tools/weapons I mentioned do require holding to operate.)

As for why I'm comparing Pokemon to tools and weapons, allow me to quote from my profile page:
My Pokemon are important tools for my world domination plot.
(emphasis added)

I command my Pokemon to accomplish whatever I need them to, they do their required task, and then they go back in storage. Just like any other tool. That is the extent of my "relationship" with my Pokemon.

Even if this isn't some creepy simulator, the whole premise still goes against my training philosophy as a whole. Then again, so did the whole "Pokemon following you" thing. Then again, I didn't care for HG/SS either.

And no, at this point, I'm still planning on giving X/Y a try. Nothing revealed has been a deal breaker yet. Plus, I still do enjoy raising up a team of six brutally powerful, efficient weapons to terrifying levels of strength in order to do my bidding, annihilate any opposition, and help me ascend to fame and fortune. In-game, of course.

But I don't hug and pet them, just like I don't hug and pet my chainsaw.

And it's nice to know that the fandom requires me to absolutely love every single feature and aspect of the franchise. Heaven forbid, I have criticisms of some of the decisions that Buick and Choice Hotels/Quality Inn have made over the years (if you want I can give specific examples of such). I can acknowledge that neither is perfect. Why can't some Pokemon fans do likewise?

Yeah suit yourself, but complaining about how you want the company to make that for you, why not try making one yourself? That's what fangames/fanfiction is for. I think you should really give that a try, because the direction Pokémon is headed is generally accepted to be becoming friends with the Pokémon, and I don't think they're gonna change that anytime soon.

And your tone is just really negative about Pokémon, that's what so annoying honestly. Have a good attitude, if you're not going to happily give everything a try, just don't. I don't like some of the Pokémon and ridiculous features tbh, but I'll still try it with a good attitude and not repeatedly and publicly decry them long after we've allllllll gotten the point.

Personally I think it's the manner of some of the complaints. Of course no game is perfect. But comparing a feature to what seems to be a sexual predator joke is rather taking it to an extreme that wouldn't cross most people's mind to begin with (especially if you saw the trailer - it involved stuff like feeding the Pokemon. Nothing wrong with that). And for the people who are interested in it, statements like this:
I can only imagine this feature was created by someone with a really weird fetish. Needless to say I will not be engaging in this sort of questionable behaviour.
can easily be taken for them as 'and if you also like it you too have a weird fetish'.

If it's intended to be a joke, then it isn't very well presented as one and isn't funny either, I have to say. Matter of attitude as droomph said; it's fine not to like this or that, but these sort of comparisons and statements don't sit well or work well in expressing that.

1) I am into fan fiction, but honestly, as of my last story I go beyond not having Pokemon as friends. I completely cut the Pokemon themselves out of the battles. The trainers in my story battle with firearms, automobiles, bar stools, pool sticks, and good 'ol hand-to-hand combat. And I'd really like to see a spin-off game based on Grand Theft Auto featuring only the trainers from the Pokemon world. No Pokemon at all.

2) And I happen to think the whole "grin and bear it and try to pretend nothing is wrong" attitude is pretty annoying too. Not at first, but when I actually try the product/service out for myself and it turns out to have serious issues that nobody bothered to bring to anyone's attention.

Have you by any chance seen this post? I give credit where credit is due, but at the same time I don't sugarcoat things when they don't meet my expectations. Doesn't matter if it's Pokemon, my bank, my college, or my internet provider. By your logic, if I read reviews of a restaurant where people are alleging that the place is roach infested and employees are not washing their hands or properly cooking food, I should happily go there, and invite my family/employer/significant other.

Hell, I just wrote a hotel review where I gave the place a 5/5 rating. Even in that review, I raised complaints about the beat-up toilet seat and watered-down juice at the continental breakfast. But, amazingly, I haven't had the hotel management accuse me of being nasty and vindictive because I mentioned a few things that weren't up to standard. Shocking, I know!

3) It's funny. I get blasted for liking a human Pokemon character (in fact, with the same kinds of "you must be a pedo" accusations), and everybody turns the other cheek. Funny how things go so much differently when the tables are turned.
