I've heard from quite a bit of people that Clair was a difficult gym leader. Seeing as I don't use items, I figured this gym may pose a challenge. I don't think of Clair as a gym leader, though. I see her as a pre-step for Lance. If you can't handle Clair, how can you expect to take down the infamous champion, right? Clair has four pokémon, so I'll take in four with my own pair of cool monsters. ;D Also, thank you to the company for removing that thunderbolt Dragonair in HGSS, otherwise I'd be toast, lol. (I'll have to worry about thunder-wielding dragons later :/)

After catching Lapras on Friday (secret weapon <3), I felt confident that I would handle Clair. After level grinding these four a lil' bit, it was time to upset the queen of dragons. So it's Azulos, Rapurasu, Lei-Zi, and Leviator. (Red Gyara, Leviator, will actually be leading)
Gameplan
It's pretty easy, but is focused on keeping Lapras a-okay towards the end. Raikou and Gyarados2 will knock out Dragonair2 and Gyarados. If Clair tries anything funny and wants to bring in Kingdra early, it's off to Gyara or Raikou to roar it off. The other three must be finished first. Once Kingdra is the only one standing, it's time for Lapras to appear. Lapras will perish song and wait as kingdra dies to the digits. You can't stop that with items, Clair. :) If all are alive when perish is activated, which is a key to this battle: I've won, hence why I have two Gyarados. (you can't KO four pokémon in three turns...)
How it actually played out
so naturally I expect Dragonair to lead, only to find Gyarados appear first. So I go from my Gyarados to Raikou (eating a dragon rage, meh) and swiftly KO with Thunderbolt. Next up? Dragonair. Red Gyarados comes in, it uses pulse, while ice fang takes it to about ~5-10 HP. Then Clair uses an item (-___-) and heal Dragonair while I dragon rage. (so she can't do it again), she uses thunder wave, and obviously I can't move. Another pulse, this time ice fang knocks her out. Second dragonair enters the stage. Pulse hits, I can't move. Pulse yet again, I'm at 1 HP, ice fang does similar damage. Pulse knocks red Gyarados out.
Score: 3 - 2
So I send out my second, significantly weaker, Gyarados. Because these two had ice fang in different slots, I misclick (jhdbuehfurrg) and use leer. She then thunder waves me. (ugh) Pulse hits, I finally finish her off with Ice Fang. (sooo glad she didn't use an item this time) And now Kingdra, the threat.

As Kingdra appears, so does my weapon, Lapras. It uses smokescreen, I perish song. :D! 3 I switch in Azulos (Gyarados from before), smokescreen. 2 Kingdra uses Dragon pulse, I can't move due to par. 1 I switch to Lei-Zi (raikou), pulse does some damage 0 Woohooo!

... Having trouble with Clair or need some ideas?
Don't forget there's a wobba in that dark cave entrance a lil' south of blackthorn. Mirror coat can help with Kingdra. (same goes for destiny bond) Also, you could pick up one of those lv. 27 graveler in the wild. (sure, it's a bit weak, but a timely selfdestruct will do you well) Or you can feel free to mimic my strategy, grab a Lapras from union cave on friday, train it, have some support, viola.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to sleep, then tackle that dragon den watchamacallit tomorrow.

Shout out: Congratulations on your battle arena gold symbol, Anti. Rock on.

oh god damn

You are a Lapras+Perish Song user also.

I love you. <3

Handy hint (not that I really need to tell you, I guess): Perish Song is mighty useful for the Kimono Girls, as they only have one Pokemon and can't switch.

Also, I beat Clair with gratuitous use of items :( Namely two Hyper Potions, two Revives, a Full Restore and a Super Potion. D: I'm ashamed.

(And I also expected a Dragonair lead, and acted accordingly, sending out Lapras. D: I need a lecky type. *goes Raikou-huntingz*)

Nice plan. I just might steal your Lapras strategy and use Red Gyrados a bit differently, and for my last pokemon I'll probably bring in my Ampharos or something else with electric type moves.

I pretty much had Feraligatr + Ice Fang and Ampharos battle it out for me. With Gengar as a back up if the first two were to faint.

Grr Perish song. XD; Since I'm too lazy to switch.

Oh your love for water pokemon, two Gyarados. XD

The Kingdra was rather annoying XD Especially since I didn't have any Dragon-type moves to use against it.

...

Maybe I should try the Perish Song method for Red. /bye bye, Sheer Cold that I've been using for fun

ooooh, didn't think about that. :D nice. And haha, yeah, Lapras is a beast. And no need to be ashamed: one guy blasted me then said he used like 18 revives on Clair. Now who's laughing. :D

@ Zet: good luck with the strategy 8D how will you use Gyarados? I'm curious.
