  • A lot of the stuff I have is more bittersweet than sad. AnoHana, Looking Up at the Half-Moon, Violet Evergarden and a handful of others all vie for that title. I find it hard to include Your Name or A Silent Voice in that group like you did though. It's true that they have sad moments, but by and large they feel very positively-inclined to me.

  • Anohana, A Silent Voice, Wolf Children, and of course the one that affected me the most was Full Moon wo Sagashite. That one devastated me, then again I binged it while I had meningitis.

  • Your Name is a great film and kinda sad, but nothing will beat Clannad: After Story for the feels. I can't describe how depressing and soul crushing that anime is, especially after growing with the characters in the original Clannad. I've only cried at a few animes, but this one was a whole new level, the last few episodes are something else, and the music makes it even worse. Despite this though, it's a really good anime, I just can't face watching it again haha.

A Silent Voice is sad? Huh...you learn something new every day. I never thought of it as particularly sad...unless you factor in how painfully dense Shoya is. Your Name is the wrong kind of "sad" for this topic, though.

Ride Your Wave hits pretty hard because of that awful ending scene. Seriously, the film was doing pretty well being about learning to cope with loss and move on before it threw THAT little stunt. In terms of series...well, I guess Your Lie in April is kinda an obvious choice I suppose. I know Violet Evergarden is supposed to be sad, but I just find it very, very boring. The original Fullmetal Alchemist actually had a few moments as well like this, because of the more personal connections the homonculus had with the protagonists - Lust, Wrath, and Sloth in particular.

I'd never heard of this before. Seems interesting.
It's a cute movie and overall I'd recommend it (not the best I've seen this year, but a close second behind A Whisker Away) but without spoiling the ending made me cringe a little bit...you'll know what I mean if you watch it, hopefully. Might just be me. xD

Never heard of that is it good ?
Without spoiling anything, it's about a child prodigy pianist. Unfortunately, a tragic event occurs which causes him to push away the piano forever. Two years later, a vibrant young violinist brings music to his life again, only to eventually reveal that she's keeping some devastating secrets.

I fell in love with the characters and especially the soundtrack. If you're into touching stories of young love and music, it's a definite recommendation from me.

Your Lie in April is the most I've ever cried during an anime. I think I must have cried at least 7 - 8 times within the 20 or so episodes. And Grave of the Fireflies... let's not go there. It was the set film for one of my classes in HS and our entire class was so sad :(

  • Devilman crybaby. Might seem weird to some, but that one made me sob for about twenty minutes.
I had never felt so torn before from watching an anime since Angel beats or Golden time.
Air too. I doesn't think I've rewatched I finished it because of how sad it was to me.
