Hey I'm new here, but I made an account because I'm on a hunt for an older romhack. I can't for the life of me remember the name of it, but it was being worked on around the time of Ultra Violet and Chaos Black. So roughly before 2010. I distincley remember it having a few fakemon, in particular the starters were these three eggs that had the usual starter types. The sprites were like a broken open eggshell that had a shadowed figure peeking out from it. I apologize if this is an inappropriate place to put this, like I said I'm new here. I'll continue my search and if I find anything I'll try and update or repost here.

UPDATE: I found it. It's called Pokemon Ultra Quartz. That's all I know about it, but in case anyone is out on the hunt for this this is what it's called.

  • Hey guys! First thing I gotta say, absolutely love this community. I've been lurking it for a few months, and you're awesome people!

So I started a YouTube channel a few months back (http://youtube.com/c/PhillyCheesesteak93) and I wanna do a playthrough on it of some gen 4 remakes / rom hacks that include all Pokemon up to gen 8.

I'm not huge on fakemon, but otherwise very open to different stories, characters, anything :)

So, if you have any suggestions, please let me know! :D

    Thanks!

Hi Everyone! Would anybody be able to recommend a something that has all or mostly double-battles, and fairly complete? I don't have a strong preference for a particular generation. Thanks!

Is there a hack with no Physical/Special split and doesn't have the 'beat the gyms and Elite Four' theme? I played Pocket Gaiden and Snakewood, and they were great fun...something similar to those?

Looking for suggestions of a vanilla-ish hack of FireRed to play. The main things I don't want are: fakemon, and a different region than Kanto. Storywise I want it to be the same story as well, though if there are, say, some additional battles or something, that's OK. As far as mechanics, I'm fine with it being just some Quality of Life improvements like reusable TMs or Repel usage like what started in B2W2 etc. Some other changes like adding in Moves from later Gens or the Physical/Special Split or adding the Fairy type etc. I'm not necessarily looking for, but it's fine if they're included. I know what I'm asking about is kinda bland compared to some hacks, but any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!
I have been looking for basically the same thing. Ideally only wanted gen3 with later eeveelutions added.

The best i can tell for your specifications is Pokemon Throwback. Though it doesn't do PSS or Fairy type.
There is also Fire Red 251+ which is very similar.
Also a very small patch called Fire Red 169, which can even be applied over these 2.
And apply the DS style 64x64 sprite patch for nicer pictures.

For me, Mega Blue has been the best because it adds many modern features and eeveelutions. But i would appreciate suggestions about similar Fire Red hacks built on the Ultimate FR rombase, with newer eeveelutions. Thanks!

This definitely seems interesting, I'd love to try this out, but would you consider adding the 60 FPS feature from Prism or Polished crystal?

i didn't read very well what you need but fire red omega and nameless fire red project comes to my mind.

If you're looking for something like a FireRed hack with changes to include gen3 pokemon, Ultra Violet comes to mind where they add a new area for gen 3 pokemon.

If you're looking for something like Emerald though, there's Emerald Hoenn and National Dex versions which basically make all the pokemon in those versions available and add a few QoL changes.

Hi, I'm new to the forum.

I recently had a nostalgia kick back to Pokemon Emerald, which easily is one of my favorite Pokemon games ever. I was considering replaying it, but although it being my fav one, I always thought it had some kinda drawbacks regarding completionism and QoL, stuff which I thought could've already been attenuated in some ROM hack. I've researched for a bunch of Emerald hacks - and was baffled about the amount of existing ones - but none of them quite seem to hit the tone I was looking for. Here's a bunch of features I'd really like to find in an Emerald hack:

    - Being true to the original. What makes much of my nostalgia is the original GBA art style and soundtrack, so if possible, I'd like to have them preserved.
    - With Pokemon Crystal being on the 2nd spot for me, my younger self was a bit disappointed to find out you couldn't venture back to Johto and Kanto in the 3rd gen games back when they were released, like you could with Kanto in 2nd gen. So if someone actually took on the mammoth project of porting Johto and Kanto - including all the Pokemons, both usual and legendary - into an Emerald hack, this would be a major plus for me.
    - I haven't played any Pokemon game released after Diamond & Pearl, so I'm not familiar with any of the Pokemons or game mechanics beyond that. If possible, I'd like to have it restricted on everything the 1st, 2nd and 3rd gens are offering.
    - Emerald sure was far from a perfect Pokemon experience (limited bag capacity, limited running permissions, no day/night system), so if any QoL improvements have been made, I'll gladly take them.

I know that these requests sound rather utopic, but if anyone knows a hack that comes close to it, I'd be very thankful for a recommendation or two. I already stumbled over the Complete Hoenn Dex Edition and the Complete National Dex Edition which look really promising, maybe I might give them a shot.

  • If you get a good working repro cartridge you'll often get the regular version of the game just enhanced because they repros are literally rom hacks shoved into the cart I'm getting Pokémon red today for my gameboy (repro) it's to replace my long lost Pokémon red , if you get a repro cart with a SD card and the console has enough processing power you can play a physical copy of the rom

4th Gen and onwards had a lot of very mechanical QoL changes with things like the Physical/Special split, the new EXP curves and boosts in Black and White, the party wide Exp Share, reusable TMs, so on and so forth. While most hacks pick and choose stuff like this to include, you're going to have a hard time finding major hacks that don't have the Physical/Special Split.

Additionally, a lot of hacks that put in older regions tend to make rather sweeping changes elsewhere, but the work for the extra regions has certainly been done. Most are attached to Fire Red (or RPGMaker) for ease of development from what I've seen.

The "Complete Hoenn Dex" you linked is probably your best bet for what you're looking for. It has indoor running shoes, day/night, and a lot of other little changes to ease some of those GBA frustrations. Beyond that, have you tried or thought about trying Alpha Sapphire or Omega Ruby on 3DS? Obviously it's not quite what you asked for, but most of the completion and QoL issues from the original games are complete non-issues in the remakes. The new EXP Share will overlevel you considerably though, so you may want to think about leaving it off until you need it to enjoy the original level curve.
