Hey just wanted to post here and say how much I loved this rom hack, just finished it on the rebalanced version, generally playing set+no items. I really learned a ton about battling from this playthrough, this is the first pokemon rom hack Ive beaten. I really loved a lot of the changes made and wanted to share my team and some highlights from my some 75 hour journey.
My team ended up being the event Blazkien, Farfetched, Clawitzer, Tyrantrum, Mismagius, and Amoongus. I ev trained all of my pokemon and found some really great synergy between them, like setting up speed boosts with protect+batonpass mega blazkien, or using Amoongus as a pivoting bulky wall. Ive tried playing other difficulty rom hacks, but for some reason it was this one that really made how to battle well click with me.
I tried to use pokemon that had been buffed for the rom hack, and had a great time. particular, I really loved the changes made to farfetched. I originally picked him up just to deal with Violia, but in the end found his utility as a glass canon wall breaker to be a vital part of my team. I feel Farfetched is actually a perfect example of how well you have rebalanced some of the pokemon, its ability to critical every hit with stick+super luck is super useful, but comes at the cost of being unable to take a hit, and essentially not get a held item.
I really loved the difficulty curve in this game as well. This was the weakest part of xy to me, and honestly the difficulty you added made me really appreciate the game. With the exception of Violia, every gym leader gave me some kind of trouble. I really loved how much more difficult they got from Ramos onwards, and each one forced me to rethink my strategy and move composition. I felt like I was winning not because I was over-leved or out numbering the gym leaders, but because I was playing better.
The end stretch between the team flare episode and the end were the best part of the game for me. Having to fight all 3 rivals in a gauntlet was a real challenge, and wulfric being a double battle threw me completely off guard, and made him the most difficult gym leader for me. I loved how you didnt hold back after gym 8 and had every trained have full teams of 6 and often with legendary pokemon. It was a great challenge that really made reaching the elite 4 feel rewarding.
Finally, your elite 4 composition was wonderful. With the exception of the steel guy (cant remember his name) all of them gave me a ton of challenge and made me really develop and plan a strategy for them. I have to compliment Siebold in particular, his team was as genius as it was sadistic. His pokemon all had perfect counters to mine, and with surf/muddy water stab moves it felt like a constant war of attrition I couldnt win. The synergy of his team was insanely good,e especially between his kingdra, politoed, and ludicolo. To be completely honest, I restored to using items to beat him after a solid 5 hours of attemps. Dianathe aslo felt like a proper champion this time as well. In truth, I had to use switch mode to beat her, that blazkien is scary when electroweb is setup. I recognize I kinda cheated to win, but in truth this rom hack was wonderful and Im downloading your Ultramoon hack as I write. Just wanted to give you this praise, and thank you so much for the wonderful experience!
Oh yeah, also found a shiny mr. Mime jr in reflection cave by complete chance. So that was pretty neat.
