Until I saw this... this is an image showing the size of the planets and stars.

And so I thought the sun was the biggest thing ever

Its pretty mind boggling. Even with the comparison its still quite hard to comprehend the size of that last star.

VY Canis Majoris eh? That thing is huge!

It also takes about 7,000,000,000,000,000 (7 Quadrillion) Earths to fill it and if it were to replace our sun it would extend to the orbit of Saturn. Plus it takes 8 hours for light to go around it compared to the 14.5 seconds it takes the light to go around the sun.

    Last frame.

    looooooooooooooooooooooool

I'd already read in books that the Sun is a medium to small-sized star, but didn't expect others to be that big compared to it.
I wonder if a planet as big as VY Canis Majoris would crush itself under its own gravity.

What do I have to say about it? Well, with the solar system being so astronomically large, there's no telling what else is out there. And in other parts and other galaxies, which clearly I believe exist, there's got to be even larger stars. I don't find it amazing or surprising in the slightest that there are stars larger than that of the sun. Kind of amused of what you're making out of it, however.

With that said, Antares = ♥.

I knew our Sun to be a fairly small and insignificant star, but it's one of the brightest in the known galaxy. It seems that there are a lot of stars that are smaller or roughly our Sun's size, with a few much larger stars, such as those shown in the GIF.

Antares, Betelgeuse, Aldebaran, Rigel, and Arcturus outmatch the Sun easily.
On a scale comparing the Sun and Antares, the Sun would only be about.. one pixel.
I already knew the Sun was inferior to some of the stars out there.. so this comes as no surprise.

The sun is the smallest star in our solar system, by a long shot... to us, it's huge, because the earth is minuscule in comparison but in comparison to other stars, the sun is a cripple.

That's pretty scary/insane/cool. I love the giant blue stars! haha. But yeah, with stars like that out there as we live on this mini planet next to our mini star, you've gotta believe there has to be lifeforms similar to us out there somewhere.

You've got your terminology a little mixed up there; the sun is the only star in our solar system. Any other star, by definition, would be a part of a different solar system.
