Everybody who plays Pokemon has at some point been mocked for playing it, but what is it that makes people think its so bad? Discuss it here.

Many people think it's for two year olds.

Guess they've never hered of Iv's, Ev's, Base stat's, Characteristics, or Type avantages/disavantages.

well if you're a girl who plays it [like myself], people probably say something along the lines of "you're playing a 'boys game'." :|

Quite possibly NoA's marketing of the games, and the really childish anime. :P

    - Childish anime
    - Cartoony creatures of DOOM
    - Marketing is typically aimed at kids
    - New Pokemon might've turned off fans of the 1st generation, either that, they felt that they needed to grow up

Personally, I think it's just a matter of what some consider to be "grown up" or not. Where I'm from, if you drink, have a thick accent, curse a lot, ride a tractor, play football, and only watch sports, you're pretty much grown up. Notice how none of that included playing video games of any sort.

You can't expect the public to take a mythical world where six foot winged lizards shoot fire out of their mouths seriously. :(

people at my high school don't think it's too childish.
about every person i come in contact with has had a good past with pokemon.
and heck, i saw a girl wear a pikachu shirt, and a guy own a pikachu backpack. Some guy brought his ancient pokemon cards to school, and a friend of mine has pikachu ears.
I think people just don't care.
    and they shouldn't.
Pokemon is more of a "Hey, I used to love that show." sort of conversation.
and i know people who know people who play the games.

    parents, well, they're just parents.

Acually some polls have said it was the anime because it was very childish. It still is but its not that bad sometimes even the movies that are good still lack the seriousness that the games have in them so those who hate it never gave it a chance at all or arent patient enough to enjoy it. To those people I say "I do not care what you say, I love pokemon games".

I think it's mostly because of the anime. Whenever you hear Pokemon being made fun of, it's mostly about that "dumb Ash Ketchum" and such. At least, that's the case around here. It's because the show took a bad turn and now...well, now it's kind of like only four-year-olds watch it. They don't really take time to look into the strategy of the game and the mechanics. If they did, they'd see that it's every bit as complicated as Final Fantasy or Super Mario or whatever they play nowadays. (Uh...wow, that made me sound really, really old.)

A lot of my religious friends still call it "the devil."

    lulz.

I have quite a few friends who play still, and I'm not the stereotypical "nerd" that most snobs would see playing, nor are the people I know who play.

It was the anime. End of story :/.

...The anime. Blame it all on Ash and the lack of mature themes. Due to censoring, the anime is completely free of anything remotely offensive. Seriously though, planning a team isn't "childish" at all.

Parents. definitely parents. My dad hated the show, the cards, and especially the figures. I had tons of 'em.... The hate probably stemmed from the cost of merchandise....

It's also funny how friends of mine laugh at it now.... because every time I bring up elementary school, they're all like "OMG! POKEMON WAS THE SHEEEET YO!" ahhh, memories... Oh well, I'm a senior now and I finally bought a DS. Once a fan, always a fan...

The show, the show, the ANIME, and guess what? The Anime show.

Fff if that ain't the truth than there is no such thing as a truth.

My god, the show went from entertaining to full blown friendship.
Ash and co are so naive. They would make friends with a serial killer if it came down to it.

The one and only thing that everyone keeps telling me is that it's for kids and that I'm an idiot for collecting the cards. I really couldn't care less what they say. Sick and tired of people stereotyping things.
