The 'uncle' was probably just a mistranslation on Chuang Yi's part - it was probably originally 'old man', which would make sense in the context of all three situations.

It's more respectable to say "uncle" than say "old man". I'm not Japanese, but even to elder strangers we address them by "uncle" or "aunt".

I have not once heard a single person call a stranger 'uncle', and in both Gold and Whitney's case they were probably not intending respect toward Lt. Surge and Pryce respectively. And Yellow may have called Wilton 'old man' in a more friendly way - like how many refer to their fathers as 'the old man', or something.

I do believe, by the fact that Fisherman Wilton apparently gave Yellow her Dodrio, he's is actually her uncle, whereas Gold referring to Lieutenant Surge as "uncle" is a mistranslation, as the translators couldn't find a better phrase...

...I take it by you talking about this, that this was Chuang Yi? Wait to see what Viz Media has done when the volume's released in the English-speaking world.....they may shed more light on the situation...

In Japan, younger people often refer to their elders using "oji-san, oba-san, ojii-san, and obaa-san" (as well as variations) which mean aunt, uncle, grandfather, and grandmother respectively. For some reason, they use familial nouns to describe people outside of their family, sort of how we sometimes call elderly people "grandma" or "grandpa". Chuang Yi was using the direct translation of these words, which can be confusing at first.

However, I think Wilton really is Yellow's biological uncle because in her official manga profile, under "family members" it said "uncle", as well as the reasons Amore has already stated.

Besides, "Uncle" sounds a whole lot better then "Old man". Usually you would see them go nuts if you call them that since most of them think its disrespectful to call them that.

On the whole uncle thing. I think it's just being used in a friendly way. I too agree that calling someone your old man or just old man in general is rather disrespectful.

I don't think Wilton is Yellow's uncle. If I recall correctly I've heard she calls him 'Fisherman Wilton' in the Viz translation - though I cannot remember for certain.

Actually that would make sense. Dia is in the Team Galactic building right now which will probably lead into the final boss fight so I would defiantly see Dia and Cyrus on the cover.

Anyway, with the new volume of D/P out, I have some new plot changes.
aka The ending that was in the Magazines is now void. There are some plot changes to the end of the D/P Arc.

So if you guys are wondering, here are the changes to the plot.
-The reason for why Volkner is not at Mt. Coronet is explained. He just ignored the call. (you jerk.) but suddenly, a weird distortion appears in front of him and his pokemon (dun dun duuuuun!)
-After the gym leaders broke the Red Chain, the weird Time-Space Distortion spread underground, where Byron, Prof. Rowan and Platinum's dad were.
-(This is the most important one) A familiar evil lady re appears behind Jupiter, wearing the Team Galactic uniform. (DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU*gasp*UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUN)
*informant's note* D: Oh noes.

*cough cough* ok. that's it for D/P arc, and it will be concluded in the next volume, and will start the Platinum arc as well.

Ok, now it's time for the B/W Arc discussion.

okeeeey.
-Ok, so this chapter takes place (I think) before that last chapter, where he met White.
-Black, being the little freak he is, apparently waited overnight behind his mailbox for the mailman to come with the package that has the starters and the pokedexes from Prof. Aragi. (reminds me of an episode of Spongebob...) Also, it was raining the night before.
-He gets all excited, saying that's he's been waiting 9 years for this day (pfft) and opens the box.
-IT'S A BOY! *killed* lol no.
-He ends up sneezing, dropping the box with the pokeballs and pokedexes on the ground, and Snivy, Tepig, and Oshawott pop out. Two pokedexes land in the water, but one of them lands next to Black.
- the starters end up fighting, and Tepig gets upset and runs away. Black runs after it, leaving a beat up Snivy and Oshawott behind, along with two of the pokedexes , which landed in a puddle.
-Prof. Aragi, Bell, and Cheren arrive, and the Prof. is mad at the mess Black made. Also, it was Bell and Cheren who recommended that Black becomes a pokedex holder as well. While Prof. Aragi knows both of them well, she's never met Black before. Also, Bell picks up both of the remaining starters, giving Snivy to Cheren, and keeping Oshawott for herself.
-After chasing Tepig to the edge of a branch, Black comforts it by saying he will choose it as his starter, but then they are attacked.
-While Prof. Aragi and Bell and Cheren watch, Black does that weird thing with Munna again. According to Cheren, Black's mind is constantly filled with dreams to conquer the League, these dreams prevent him from thinking straight, so Munna eats away these dreams, keeping his mind 'white', so that he may spot the 'black' that is the thing he should spot. *yeah, I copied pasta'd from Coronis* >w>'
-It turns out, a Kurumiru attacked them (it's that caterpillar thing).
-Tepig manages to avoid being knocked away, and defeats the wild Kurumiru.
-After Black flies off with his Wargle towards wherever they are going, it shows Prof. Aragi and the other trainers, but Bell and Cheren make a horrible discovery: The pokedexes they have don't work anymore because they fell in the water, which means that now, Black has the only working Pokedex.

....I only have this to say.
Oak, how the hell are your PokeDexes NOT water proof??!

btw, for those of you who are slopoke.jpg, the english names for the starters in Black and White are revealed.
This is not in spoilers because they are now localized:
Snivy- Tsutarja's English name
Tepig- Pokabu's English name
Oshawott- Mijumaru's English name.

T_T I'm so happy that the DP arc is longer/ so many questions! I almost fell out of my chair when I saw that Sird was back. Only one other character has made me cringe besides her, and Sird's inclusion definitely spooked me. Still this makes the plot a lot more interesting after all many people speculated that Sird and Jupiter were the same person and like this that debate is over. As for the cover. Ever since I saw the Platina/Cynthia cover for volume 36? I immediately thought "Dude... Dia and Cyrus would look awesome on a cover. So I'm gunning for that.

In terms of Black and White, Everything's up in the air so I'm going to wait for things to settle down a bit before speculating anything.

Oh and if stuff changed in DP I'm sure things will change in HG/SS. So have faith, for all you feeling down people (I haven't lost my faith).

Oh, and the distortion panels look awesome. Spacial distortion FTW!

I kind of iffy with the new English names, but, meh, I wasn't all that attached to the originals in the first place.

Sird has a bad taste in fashion. Even the Team Rocket coat made her gender ambiguous, and this Team Galactic outfit doesn't look any better..... Also, it never seemed to me like Sird was even remotely loyal to Giovanni. She put up a great "I want boss to be happy with his kid" act. Bravo *claps slowly*

Volkner's way to cool to help save the world. He has more important stuff to do, like fight Giratina with his bare hands. /sarcasm.

Volkner is too bad*** to have to deal with such trifling matters. In fact the battle up on Mt. Coronet is so trivial that he's off to beat Giratina with his hands tied behind his back. I could see them finding Volkner in the distortion world as he's lazily sitting on a rock with Giratina defeated in the background. On another note Sird looks even weirder than before. Seriously why that outfit? I still love Diamond. Charging in to a battle with the dieties of space and time simply because he received a new team member.Seriously those two buds (Dia and Pearl) are so cool. Oh and Cyrus had tears of BLOOD!? Dude.... he's scary.

I'm ambivalent to the new starter names. This is the first gen I've ever known the original names for the pokes so yeah. Never knew how radical the changes were.
