As for the chaining contest, I managed chain Swablu last week, but then I managed to break the chain by being an idiot. Well done me! So my total number of shinies from that chain ended up being... 2. Yeah, that's not going to get me very far in the contest.

I also started trying to hatch a Treecko, since it was in my opinion the best looking starter that I could hatch with my foreign Deino. If I had the choice I'd hatch Tepig, but I have neither anything foreign that'll breed with one... or a Tepig at all.
395 hatched so far.
In addition, the other day I simultaneously began hatching Sheildon with the Japanese one I forgot I had. 67 of those hatched at this stage.

I might visit the chat sometime soon, but I'm not exactly known for sticking around in those kind of things. That, and I have a lot to do over the next few days!

Hi! I'm new to the forums, and I've started searching for shinies. I've played the Pokemon games a LOT in my life, and have caught many shinies without looking for them. Only now have I started activly searching for them, and so far I haven't found anything. But I thought I'd list the shinies I've found before I started searching for them. Sadly I don't have any photographic proof, as all of those files have been either erased or traded in, so I'm currently at 0 shinies again.

My first Shiny that wasn't the Red Gyarados was a shiny Murkrow in Gold. Caught it in the wild next to Celedon City.

Then I got a Shiny Magby from the Egg in Crystal

After that I don't quite recall the order I found the others in, but I also caught a Shiny Voltorb in "New Mauville" in Sapphire (which I evolved to electrode) I caught a shiny Oddish in the Safari Zone in ruby (which I evolved to Bellosom) I caught a shiny Steelix in Victory Road in Platinum, I caught a shiny Caterpie in HeartGold right at the start of the game (Which was a childhood dream crushing experience when I found out that Shiny Butterfree are not actually pink, and that the show lied to me) I caught a shiny Bannette in Platinum, I caught a shiny Mankey in LeafGreen while EV training, (evolved to primeapre) and I kid you not, about ten battles later I caught a shiny Spearow. It was the most bizarre thing ever.

The only Pokemon games I still have are boxed copies of Ruby and Sapphire. I'm currently hunting a Shiny Chimecho, though I'm not sure if I should look for it in the wild, or just hatch eggs. I'd assume with something with such a low encounter AND catch rate, it'd probably be better to try and get it by egg. What do you think?

You've been extremely lucky with random shinies then! Wow!
Personally, I wouldn't hatche for Chimecho yet. I'd wait till I got a 4th/5th gen game if I was going to hatch and do it with Masuda odds. But it depends how soon you want it! Eggs are slow to hatch at the best of times, but without Masuda odds... I know I wouldn't have the patience!
(And watch your next post be that you got one XD)

I decided to restart my save file on Sapphire, and try and get a Shiny Treecko. Shiny Treecko looks pretty dang awesome, and I've never actually finished a playthrough of Sapphire with Treecko before, so having a shiny one would be enough reason to do it. So far I've done 400 soft resets, but I haven't found it yet. Still early days in the hunt.

Also, my 3DS behaved oddly last night, if anyone can explain, I'd be grateful!

So, I turn it on with the wireless switch active, and when I SR over a Kyurem on Pokemon White the screen just crashes at the white screen. No Pokemon White Logo or anything, just the white screen immediately after SRing won't move.
I tried it 5 or 6 times, powered the system off, it still did it.
So I put Pokemon Platinum in there, and as soon as I select my save file, it comes up with that blue screen and the Communications Error message, that you get when you switch off your DS mid-trade.
I turned off the Wireless switch, but because of the c-gear and how I just press "yes", though it works now, it makes SRs a lot longer. Anyone have a clue?

Sorry I haven't posted in a while guys, I haven't had much success but, now I've found something it was the first one that I had encountered so far in the game and when I found it i wasn't really paying any attention, but just a i was about to defeat it, i realized that it was a shiny! I named her tentacles i dont know why, it just seems like it fits :P

Those are high numbers, never give up.
All I can say is, make sure the 3ds and the game cards are free of dust, also that the games are correctly inserted.

The worst part is that I don't have Emerald. In Ruby/Sapphire, there's no flame body/magma armour trick to speed up the process. Oh well. I'm not too fond of Emerald anyways, and right now I'm mostly trying to find Shiny Treecko to give me a reason to play through the game the whole way with Treecko. Only problem is a prefer shiny Grovyle over Shiny Sceptile. After losing my Golden Caterpie for a Butterfree that WASN'T pink, I don't really know if I should do another evolution I might later regret. I also regretted evolving my green Mankey to a Primeape that looked basically identical to the regular thing. Though it WAS an incredibly lucky find. Level 3 shiny Mankey, Jolly nature, Vital Spirit, supposedly one of the ideal competitive battling Primeape. Too bad it's gone now. : (

As for shiny Hoenn starters, shiny Blaziken is really lame sadly. Shiny Torchic is better, even though it IS just a reversal of the colours. The shiny I want most of all is a shiny Starmie. Starmie is one of my favourite Pokemon, and the shiny one is REALLY incredible. When I have money available to me, I'm going to go down to the awesome retro game store near us and pick up LeafGreen so I can try and get one. I COULD get it in Sapphire, but I'd have to random encounter for it since I can't get ditto in Sapphire for genderless breeding, and I really hate the fishing in Sapphire where you have to be paying attention at all times.

Oh, and 462 soft resets for Treecko so far.

Hi there! I'll be joining the club, in a sorta-there way. As for what shinies I have... ones that I obtained myself and migrated are an Electrike and Phanpy :) Everything else is received from trades :D or in-game red Gyarados.

You should have a huge push to get it before the one year anniversary of the beginning of your hunt! The earliest documented evidence of you hunting for Litwick is from May 8th, 2011, but you actually started before that! We can have a huge SHC party on May 8th to celebrate your Great Hunt. :)

Then another one of your friends shows up and sits next to you, and while you're talking to him the second group leaves! Eventually you realize that generations have come to pass and you're still in the cafeteria, "lol." It's the fun of the journey that counts!

You could use Axiom 22 on Chimecho, although this is a really extreme case where it's almost negligible. I suppose it depends upon your goal with shiny hunting; do you hope to one day (let's say, by January 2999) catch every possible shiny, or are you just going to go after your favorites? If you just want a shiny Chimecho, by all means hatch for it. But if you plan on getting Duskull/Vulpix/reclaiming Shuppet, you might want to think about hunting in Mt. Pyre - there's an abysmally tiny chance of getting a shiny Chimecho, and you're highly likely to get another shiny in the process. Whereas if you hatch a shiny one now, you might end up finding one later on while looking for a shiny Duskull or something. I guess it depends on how much more you want Chimecho over the other shinies. Whatever you decide to go for, good luck!

Sorry, I can't help you out here. I didn't know that with the 3DS, you can skip the C-Gear step by having the wireless switch on? If so, I might have to start doing all my 5th gen hunting on the 3DS from now on! It sounds like that would save quite a bit of time, "lol."

Unfortunately, I have. Last July, I was SRing for Johto starters and I had done so many that I eventually started SRing as soon as it came to the Pokemon, "lol." I didn't realize until after I had already SRed that Chikorita's leaf was pink. :(

Happily, though, I made up for it (partially) by getting a shiny Totodile in December! He's still my most recent shiny, though...

yep, ive lost three so far.

First, a Wurmple. At the time, i didnt want it, but hey, why not get it............................. i was an idiot at that time, so i "let" Cheryl's Chansey kill it (not really, my Poke was too slow)..............

Second, I had found myself a Skarmory (my second) while looking for a Spinda. I was stupid at this time, trying to get it in low health. who knew that a Spark from my Chinchou would kill it?

and finally, Third. and this is what made me stop hunting for a little bit. Smeargle. Im in Artisan Cave in Emerald, and i had found one in 60 encounters. my Vigoroth decides to CRIT HIT THE DAMN THING WITH SLASH!!!!! This, as i said, made me stop hunting for at least 3 months before i got back into it.

i do plan on avenging all three of these shinies, even though i already have a Skarmory.

as for hunting news, i moved from the Desert Resort (fricken sand) to Chargestone Cave near the bottom level. I want a Tynamo, but i wouldnt mind whatever shows

Nope. I have only ever found 1 wild shiny, so the lost shiny percentage would be 100%, but I caught it. That shiny Unown appeared when I was collecting Unown, so catching it was easy.

Unfortunately, I have. Last July, I was SRing for Johto starters and I had done so many that I eventually started SRing as soon as it came to the Pokemon, "lol." I didn't realize until after I had already SRed that Chikorita's leaf was pink. :(

Happily, though, I made up for it (partially) by getting a shiny Totodile in December! He's still my most recent shiny, though...
Seriously, I think you deserve a shiny the most of anyone in the club right now.

Hi! I'm new to these forums and I have been searching for shinys! The only legit shiny I have is a hardy natured shiny nidoking. Personally, my favorite shiny is Luiga, simply because it's pink and white. What? I like pink!

Welcome! As G-Money said, maybe you should take a pink shiny quest!

The worst part is that I don't have Emerald. In Ruby/Sapphire, there's no flame body/magma armour trick to speed up the process. Oh well. I'm not too fond of Emerald anyways, and right now I'm mostly trying to find Shiny Treecko to give me a reason to play through the game the whole way with Treecko. Only problem is a prefer shiny Grovyle over Shiny Sceptile. After losing my Golden Caterpie for a Butterfree that WASN'T pink, I don't really know if I should do another evolution I might later regret. I also regretted evolving my green Mankey to a Primeape that looked basically identical to the regular thing. Though it WAS an incredibly lucky find. Level 3 shiny Mankey, Jolly nature, Vital Spirit, supposedly one of the ideal competitive battling Primeape. Too bad it's gone now. : (

As for shiny Hoenn starters, shiny Blaziken is really lame sadly. Shiny Torchic is better, even though it IS just a reversal of the colours. The shiny I want most of all is a shiny Starmie. Starmie is one of my favourite Pokemon, and the shiny one is REALLY incredible. When I have money available to me, I'm going to go down to the awesome retro game store near us and pick up LeafGreen so I can try and get one. I COULD get it in Sapphire, but I'd have to random encounter for it since I can't get ditto in Sapphire for genderless breeding, and I really hate the fishing in Sapphire where you have to be paying attention at all times.

Oh, and 462 soft resets for Treecko so far.

If I got a shiny Starmie.. That would make me happy :D

You've been extremely lucky with random shinies then! Wow!
Personally, I wouldn't hatche for Chimecho yet. I'd wait till I got a 4th/5th gen game if I was going to hatch and do it with Masuda odds. But it depends how soon you want it! Eggs are slow to hatch at the best of times, but without Masuda odds... I know I wouldn't have the patience!

Also, my 3DS behaved oddly last night, if anyone can explain, I'd be grateful!

So, I turn it on with the wireless switch active, and when I SR over a Kyurem on Pokemon White the screen just crashes at the white screen. No Pokemon White Logo or anything, just the white screen immediately after SRing won't move.
I tried it 5 or 6 times, powered the system off, it still did it.
So I put Pokemon Platinum in there, and as soon as I select my save file, it comes up with that blue screen and the Communications Error message, that you get when you switch off your DS mid-trade.
I turned off the Wireless switch, but because of the c-gear and how I just press "yes", though it works now, it makes SRs a lot longer. Anyone have a clue?
I'll figure it out soon.

To answer the question above, yes I have lost a shiny (mienfoo). At least it shows up in my pokedex....

I've been lucky in that I've caught every shiny I've found. I'm not so lucky that they're all gone now. :/

By the way, I had an idea about something to shake up the random shiny of the week thing. Maybe every once in a while instead of just looking for a certain Pokemon, the goal is to find a certain colour shiny. So say after a few random pokemon of the week, you say "Now this week look for a green shiny!", so we'd all go try to get a shiny Marill, Huntail, chimecho, scizor, or any other green shiny. Or you know, whatever colour it is you happen to pick to look for. Doesn't have to be green of course.

I'm mostly focusing on Viridian Forest at the moment, as I'd love to get a Shiny Weedle/Kakuna to evolve to green Beedrill. I'd also be happy with golden Caterpie, or orange Metapod. Just so long as I don't get a shiny Pikachu. I really don't want that.

Imagine the trailer for a movie in which Keruso and Fufu are fighting for the Indigo League Championship, but this year's battle has a twist: you must use ever Pokemon you've every caught!! You could probably make a whole 120-second ad of just the Pokemon coming out of their Pokeballs and having the shiny sparkles and stars from each generation! Of course, all of this would be accompanied by heavy rock music, cameras starting focused on stadium lights in the night sky and zooming out, and lots of explosions. :)

Babies born in 2013 will likely read this as the most recent G-Money post.

Normally I would assault you with an all-caps rage of red and bold letters warning you of the dangers of undergoing such a perilous quest, but this situation is actually given an exclusive exception in the Shiny Hunter's Manual. There have only been 11 days in the entire history of the SHC (0.4%) that are specified in the Manual as days you're allowed to hunt there, and you happened to pick one of them!!! I'm absolutely astounded that the day you picked to hunt there just so happens to be one of the very, very rare days it's allowed!! Perhaps the omens are aligned in your favor.

That's a great idea! I'm definitely cool with the idea of changing up the Hunt of the Week every once in a while, if Latios Master wants to. *turns to Latios Master* You're more than welcome to make it something else if you want to, or if you're happy with the way they're going, you're free to keep it with the random Pokemon. Whatever works best for you. :)

Yep. Sadly, I've lost 2. I 1 hit KO'd a Shiny Golbat, then was Roared away by a Shiny Lairon just a few short encounters later. Worst 30 minutes I've spent hunting. (Thankfully I have gotten even and hunted down replacements... and caught them.) That was years ago, haven't lost any others, thank goodness.

Viridian Forest LeafGreen: 2700 Encounters
Treecko Sapphire: 500 Soft Resets

Making good progress in my Viridian Forest LG hunt. 1400 of those 2700 encounters were done today. I've basically been doing this all day, and since my insomnia usually keeps me awake until 2:00AM, I've still got plenty of time left. Though I'll most certainly slow down after I've caught my first shiny since actively searching for them. Still hoping I get Shiny Weedle more than anything else in the forest. Haven't done any Treecko Soft Reseting since starting Viridian Forest.

I think once I get to the 3000 encounter mark, it's safe to say I'm well into the hunt.

I'm at 3748 Pikachu. When I get to 4000 I think I'll pause and move to Kanto 28, since by then I'll have lost all motivation.

If I'm THAT far into a hunt, the way my mind works is that I wouldn't give up until I found something. It's like the game is winning if I quit, and if I've spent THAT much time on it, no way would I give up and make the entire time spent looking for it a complete waste. Keep working at it. You'll find something soon enough.
