I brought this up with a few people, but I would
really like to see the return of Roleplay Challenges. I thought they were actually a load of fun and gave people a chance to practice (or in some people's case, show off) their roleplaying skills. Have people contribute by not only putting in their submission, but hosting them as well. Last time they were hosted once a month by a mod, I don't see why it couldn't be arranged so that members can host them as well. All they would have to do is come up with a theme/prompt for the challenge and post the general guideline. Of course, these would have to be active members and their prompt should/would have to be approved by a mod (or mods) but it gives a chance for people to feel like they're apart of the RPC community that we have here on PC. Seems like an easy way to get people involved.
The once a month RPA was something I enjoyed. It gave me something to look forward every month in the RPC other than posting in the RPs I was participating in. Though, if it isn't as active, for lack of a better word, then it could be changed to bimonthly. The judging format I liked. I'm trying to think of a non-hassle way of eliminating potential bias, but it's 4 in the morning and my brain can't handle that stress. It's easy to slip into the "well, we've done it this way so lets keep doing it that way," mindset. It's always nice to shake things up once in awhile.
I wouldn't mind if the Roleplay Olympics came back. I know 2015 isn't an Olympic year, but we didn't have them in 2014 so consider it a make-up year. We really don't need to stick to the whole Olympic "once every two/four years" as we could easily just adjust it to the Roleplay Competition (or whatever name). Again, I feel like it can be hosted by different people/group than it normally is (I mean, there's previous threads they can look back for inspiration, so...). Of course, a mod could check their progress, see if they need any help, etc. We can switch up the categories that are competed in, nothing sucks worse than continuous repetition. I'd suggest more partner/team based categories.
Lets not forget that there was an RPO Survey that was done (
here) so that'll be helpful for feedback.
Another thing is that, from what I've seen, all the big RPC events like the Contest or the PMD adventure are Pokemon related... Could we change that? I know Pokemon RPs tend to be easier to manage since everyone knows Pokemon, but it would be nice refresher and a nice change of pace, especially for those of us that enjoy Other RPs. Once again, even these can be hosted (or co-hosted with Mods) by members of the community.
An additional thought, is that I know the mods like to be creative and craft up their own events (and that's totally reasonable, and should still be a thing) but perhaps there could be a survey of some sort when thinking about these events? I'm not saying every event you need to run passed the members or anything like that. Just to gain interest. It should be an anonymous survey (I think Google has like a Google Survey thing that are super easy to make) because sometimes people aren't willing to express their opinions openly as some of us are but want to add to the discussion. This can go for anything, not just the big events, but if the mods are stuck/can't chose between options it could be helpful.
Hmm, as for what I would like to see RP wise, echoing
revlis, I wouldn't mind finishing RPs (
or changing the color scheme of the RP Library). It's a big problem that we have here that people can never seem to commit (and I know there can be personal reasons behind this) to the RPs that they're in. More Other RPs! I love Other RPs and I know we have fantastic people out there with brilliant ideas. I'm itching for some High Fantasy / Supernatural RPs. Otherwise, I might have to release a storm of my own... (kidding, maybe...)
