  • I've really enjoyed this game thus far. I've been playing it nonstop. I finally made it to Kakariko Village earlier today - it looked so nice! Afterward, I ventured out [to activate a nearby Sheikah Tower] and wound up activating the Zora quest, but I decided I'm going to go to Hateno Village first.

I love all of the shrines, too! I'm trying to evenly upgrade my stamina and hearts. Also, climbing is such a great feature. I feel like I can pretty much go anywhere.

  • Ran into the first thing I haven't enjoyed so far: the Naboris dungeon. A disappointment through and through. The leadup to it was very enjoyable, however!

  • How open is this game?
Well here is a cool side story. I was fighting a couple of Bokoblins at the edge of a cliff. They got a really good hit on me that sent me rolling. Link kept rolling for a couple seconds and I was like "don't fall off, don't fall off". He falls off and lands straight into the river below. I saw the smallest little patch of land at the edge of the river connected to the mountain, I go swimming barely making it because of stamina drain. My hearts are down to only half of one. So I decide to put some food into my hands to hold, thinking that maybe I could eat it in one shot outside the menu system (just so you know, you can't). I move forward a bit and since the piece of land I was on was so small Link hits the wall and drops all the apples I had in my hand and they roll Into the water. Had to jump in to collect them back.

I've also gotten to Kakariko and I'm loving this version of the town. This world seems so alive it's crazy. The town looks great and the people are so lively. I just spent the whole in game day chilling with the kids. I just decided to drop all quests and just hang out for a while and see what would happen. Also they are adorable. About to head to Hateno myself too after one more shrine so I can get some stamina upgrade.

There are no words for how open this game is.

  • I kinda expected A Link Between Worlds openness. Nah. They just said "Defeat Ganon" 5 minutes after starting the game and left you to the world. lol
I laughed when the game did that. It feels strange having your main objective there taunting you the entire game from the beginning.

  • So admittedly, I had a doubt of how long I would enjoy this game, since I don't play many open-world games and those that I do, I tend to get bored with them after some time. But this? Yeah, I don't think I'm going to get bored of this game too soon. I started up my save again yesterday with the intent of working on the main quest - four hours later, I think I finally managed to get on that track. First it was "I will catch me another horse" (turned out to be a pretty decent horse, so worth it), then it was "I'm gonna go find this shrine", then "oh I got a clue for this quest, I'll go all the way out east to find it", and then "okay, I'll go up north for main quest".

    This is awesome.

Now if I would only stop hitting the wrong button and throwing my weapons. :V I'm not doing it as much as I was doing it first day, but it's still happening. That's not the button you want to hit for things, self! How many times do I need to tell you!

That happened to me countless times today. Right now I'm collecting a few items I need to be able to beat a quest since I ran out during the battle. So that itself will probably take me a couple hours. Oh and during the beginning of that hunt for items I bumped into a different boss so now I have to deal with that.

The controls were a bit tough for me to grasp as well. I kept throwing items too and I was getting confused with how the d-pad buttons switched between items. I have a pretty good grasp of them now, but it definitely took me a while to be comfortable with what I was doing.

I would get it for Switch. It's so nice and awesome to be able to just take the game with you. I work at a call center and playing this thing at work in handheld or tabletop mode is so awesome. Literally just play my Switch all day. The graphics are impressive too. I'd say it's worth it and Breath of the Wild is really the best game to have at launched, except for Mario had they had it ready as a launch title.

  • This has seriously become one of my favourite games of all time. I love it.
Same here, I have always had my favorite games being Resident Evil GC, A Link to the Past, Super Mario Sunshine and Yoshi's Island, but this game. So far it's coming close to my favorite game ever. I will wait until I beat it or 100% it to make full judgement though.

Not too sure if I feel the same way. I love the scope, but the story is more bare bones than I would like, plus not enough (or any) memorable music that isn't a remix of one of Zelda's classic leitmotifs.

The dungeons are really nice, but the bosses don't have much variety to them. Sure they're shaped differently, but aesthetically they look too similar.

Not only that, that weapon durability system REALLY needs to be changed (ffs, just doubling weapon durability would render this a non-issue, patch dis Nintendo).

No place to really store all of your stuff either, sure you get a house but only limited wall-hangers and no chest to placate my inner pack-rat.

Also, in the DLC, I want to see a bit more land and also more enemy-variety. Bring back Like-Likes, ReDeads/Gibdos, Wallmasters, and Darknuts/Iron Knuckles.

With all that said and done, it's still definitely in my Top 5 Zelda Titles. All these are just my own gripes....everything else about the game is fantastic.

What's the point of Rupees in the game? I've only watched a few LPs of the game and they seem to be very few and far between (they aren't very far into the game mind you) and the open worldness makes it seem like there aren't that many options or uses for it (again, that's just my perception based on what I've watched thus far.)

There are a lot of things, including cooking ingredients, that can only be obtained by buying them. It's also the most common way to get better arrows in high quantities.

There are less tunes than a regular LoZ game, true, but I think the direction they went for fits fine here.

Disagree personally - I like how the system works, presents a nice challenge and forces you to conserve.

To add to what CarcharOdin said:
    - Great Fairies need rupees - useful for upgrading your armour,
    - Clothing as well costs money (and this is fairly useful, perhaps some even necessary for parts),
    - House for some weapon storage and... having a house in the game, haha.

Certainly less stray rupees lying around in grass, etc than your usual LoZ game though! But then it's the same with hearts - just that there's food instead of hearts now.

#1: Yeah, I know the direction, I know the feeling of isolation they're trying to get at here thematically and it does work, but part of my love of Zelda is memorable tunes. Thought I suppose, given time, I'll probably tune out to this game's overworld theme when I'm trying to relax - same way I do with some of Skyrim's tunes.

#2: I have no problems with the concept itself or what it's supposed to do, it's just that they degrade far too quickly. Like...System Shock 2 levels quickly. Never since System Shock 2 have I played a game where weapons break down just as fast as a Pinto.

#3: And to add to your point...the primary source of rupees is not so much vandalism as it is simple mercantilism....selling your useless crap.

  • One of the other things noticed is how your weapons break stupidly quickly. Is there a way to repair weapons before they break? Or is there a finite duration that each weapon has no matter what you do?

The latter. Generally stronger weapons have greater durability, so hence finding a strong weapon from a shrine or enemy is quite a reward. Also teaches you to not waste your weapon's durability on simple stuff like pots or the like, haha.

Makes sense. Is the Master Sword attainable? And if so does that have a weapon durability limit lol

It is, but it has both infinite and finite durability.

Mainly once it runs out of power, it becomes unusable for about 5 minutes, then you can use it again. Basically it's a rechargable weapon.
