Allah is God, yes. It's how we call Him in Islam.
Islam is actually very similar to Christianity; there's one God, and He created everything. His prophets include Adam, Jesus, Moses, Joseph, etc., but in the Qu'ran (the Holy Book), they keep their original names - Yisa, Youssef, etc. - since they were modified in the Bible. Most of the Bible's stories are in the Qu'ran, such as the tale of David and Goliath, Noah's Arc, etc. since the Qu'ran IS the Bible, but it has never been modified by humans (the Romans modified the Bible at their will hundreds of years ago). We regarde Mohammed as God (Allah)'s last prophet, and he was mentioned in the original Old Testament written in Hebrew; however, in the English translation, they completely omitted his name, which made a lot of people think Mohammed wasn't a messenger of God, like Jesus. Jesus' name actually appears in the Holy Book more times than Mohammed's name does lol Just an interesting fact, that. We believe in the day of judgment; we also believe that Jesus wasn't crucified. He was saved by God and another man took his place during the crucifixion.
We have the same 10 Commandments as well; we may have some differences, but we're a lot the same. Some differences is that we pray the way even the Bible mentions that Jesus prayed - on our knees with our heads to the floor. It indicates total submission to the Creator as his creations. We also have Mohammed, who was omitted in the Bible, and we fast during the day during a specific month of the year in order to feel the pain that hungry, poor citizens feel when they can't eat.
The Qu'ran says that non-believers and non-Muslims will perish. Some people misunderstand this; a "Muslim" is someone who believes in the one God, and the one Creator. That means even Christians are Muslims, since they fit the definition. The only thing we don't like about Christianity (I was a Christian before, btw) is that they try to personify God as Jesus, when Jesus was but a mortal. It was the Romans who changed him into being Godlike (see: History of the World to the Sixteenth Century).
The Qu'ran also details a lot of things. Things that scientists discovered in the 20th century was written in the Qu'ran in the year 600AD. It is written how we reproduce (embryos, sperm, etc.), that there are fish who have light at the bottom of the dark ocean, and it even details the cycle of rain - all things we've only learnt in the past 100 years or so. Amazing, eh?
Also, a lot of people think that Islam belittles women, when it's not true. Every translation outside of Arabic has been corrupted. It's not a good translation. The wording in the original Arabic text is so divine, so rich and impeccable, that no one can actually modify the Qu'ran without it being obvious. There are also thousands and thousands of words in Arabic that can't be translated into other languages properly. The prophet Mohammed actually says to take care of women, for they are important. In the Qu'ran, it states that multiple wives are only acceptable under the condition that:
1) It's not for personal gain / pleasure;
2) It's to help that woman (i.e. an orphan, a homeless woman, etc.)
and
3) You can truthfully love and respect multiple women the same, and not favour one over the other(s)
You can never have more than four wives regardless; 99% of Muslims only have one wife, since we believe in monogamy. It's only the extremists in Saudi Arabia who treat women like objects. Even then, Christians are guilty of the same thing - everyone is. Men of all faiths view women as lower than them and less important, not just the extremists in Islam. Muslims are very docile, too. Violence is against our faith. Those who claim that Muslims beat their wives are ignorant and full of crap.
Also, a lot of haters will try and claim that Mohammed, a full-grown man, married and slept with a nine-year-old girl. This is false. She was a homeless orphan, and he took her into his home to care for her. They never had any relations at all, and regardless, in 600AD laws all over the world stated a girl who menstruates is ready for marriage and motherhood. As late as the 1900s, girls at the age of 13 were being married to 40-year-old men all over Europe, Asia, and North-America. It's nothing out-of-the-ordinary, even if Mohammed had done something sexual 1400 years ago (which he did not).
The Qu'ran is untouched and only has one edition: the Qu'ran. Unlike the Bible, who has a ton of different versions (i.e. King James' Edition; Psalty's Edition; etc.). When you say the Qu'ran, you mean the Holy Book, and just the Holy Book. There's no Qu'ran that is written differently, like the Bible's different editions. Every Qu'ran is the exact same.
Yay! Now you know a bit about Islam xD
and yeah, I read that fanfic a bit; I was actually hoping you'd check out mine and comment on it :]
