Well, that other job laid me off a year ago so i had to look for something else. And I don't mind it much. In fact, I'd rather do this than morning shift during weekdays: I get to organise my own work, manage the Americas section in the weekend paper more or less myself, there are only four other people at the office doing their own thing (so no chance of stepping on each other's feet), and I get to watch F1 and football games free since the sports guys need to cover them!
I go on Wednesdays to lay out the work, set the main topics for the weekend and write my stories in advance. So three days of work a week allowed me to take on a masters, which is never a bad thing to have as well. I'm expecting to increase my hours once I'm done but the basic gist, I'm pretty happy with.
