It was, and still is, Squirtle. I watched the first season of the show before I ever played the games, and Ash's Squirtle was just great. And the Squirtle Squad episode... Man, that episode was just so great. I've loved Squirtles ever since that episode.

I've always thought that starting out with some baby Pokemon like Pichu would be adorable. Of course, it could mess up the balanced advantage/disadvantage chain they've got going there, but it's still ADORABLE. ;m;

I prefer to just walk in the game blind, rather than planning it out. Like, I'll probably have a starter planned out if it's a generation I'm familiar with. But other than that, I'll just catch what seems cool at the time, use it in battles for a while and see if I like using. If not, it's off...
