    Maybe Alakazam or Gengar, psychic and ghost types are really strong and will help you in various gyms (depending how far into the game you are)

    I would go with Ralts, psychic pokemon are very strong although ralts and kirlias defense isnt very good.

    I never really got into silver/gold...i think the best games ever are the first ones...yellow/blue/red. Although ruby/saphire are good too
