I'm not really a good teacher, but I have one tip: Keep everything in a seperate layer. That way, it's easier to fix if you screw it up. And on visuals, I can't really help you. Just go with what you think looks nice.

Thanks, but 80% of that tutorial I owe to Darthatron:D. I specialize in Scripting, but I'm working on learning ASM. I can resize sprites decently, but not 100%:p. I can do pretty much anything not involving ASM, unless it involves being artistic.... I can't draw anything from scratch:/.

Sounds like a good idea. You can edit the textbox when you're inserting the titlescreen as well. You'll be given the main Rom next Monday to insert both & you can take as much time as you need. From now-sunday is mapping and scripting.

It sounds pretty good that your planning for the prealpha, but you shouldn't rush yourself, it is better if you take 1 month for a good alpha then 1 week for a rushed one :>

Well the best I can do is try to explain what exactly in the tutorial is confusing you/is unclear to you. I might be one of the Emulation moderators but that doesn't guarantee I'll know how to do everything.

You can also ask Karatekid552. I hear he's very good at hex editing also. You and Tajaros kinda have the same time zones, so getting in contact with him would probably be easier.
