  • Hey, dude, I saw you showed my tiles :)
Just something I notice, in the Hallowed Grove map...
There are some tile errors, due to there being 2 trees. They're caused by the top 2 tile of one tree being used on the rest of another. For example, the top of the Pointed (Platinum) tree on the base of the rounder (DP) one, and vice-versa- however, using the DP top on the Plat tree looks ok in my opinion. Technically it's a tile error but it looks ok. However, I think you should definitely avoid mixing the bases (middle) of the two trees. It... well, it looks pretty bad, to be honest.

If you'd like me to explain more clearly, I could post the map, pointing out what I mean.

But I recall you saying you disliked there being no shadows on the side of the trees? If that's still the case, disregard the first two paragraphs (:D) and I'll insert the tree-shadow tiles next beta test.
No, I didn't mean him, I was just referring to him... Unclearly, I now realise :D
Ohh, I thought you had to get the offset yourself, and specify it in the script with #dynamic- I didn't realise it actually searched from there.
Again, it's not a problem. Especially not now, anyway. I don't know why it's so different now, but school being over this year is like the biggest weight that's ever been lifted. (sorry, but WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!)
Oh, so it searches for free space when you compile it?
Ah, Sniper-scope guy, is he the person who asked you to infiltrate the warehouse, yeah? I'll do those when I get a chance, then.
You could always replace the empty Pokemon slots for them. They're not *actually* empty, they're Unown, but I think (don't quote me on this), if you edit the blank sprites, but don't touch the data, you could keep all the Unown forms whilst having those images in there. Then you could use Showpokepic to show them.
Thanks for those. I knew about the Text Adjuster (thank god, or I'd have seriously messed up message scripts on my hands), from some tutorial somewhere, but thanks, I wasn't sure what those others did. Thanks for this- have I told you you're to be a character in my hack? (no, I didn't ask for your consent. Nor do I plan to. :P)

You, me and a real-life friend of mine take the roles of the Alpha Agents. Alpha as in Arceus, but I'll say no more for now :)
And WOOT! Finished high school! Thanks dude, it feels great to know I've got two whole months of proper freedom ahead of me.
    I have to get a JOB D:
Regarding that palette error- due to the last minute change of palettes, I forgot to change it in some of the secondary tilesets. It'll be fixed before the next public release, though- do you have a date in mind for that?
I've actually been on a roll recently- I replaced the mountain tiles, the innard tileset of the treehouse, and Arbor's tree over the past two days. Not too much, really, but along with editing grass animations, and working on Infinity, I'm getting a fair bit done so much quicker than I normally would. Now that school is out, you'll have to wait for me a lot less, hahaha :D
This means nothing coming from me, but try experimenting. showtrainerpic or something, and use the A-Trainer sprite numbers as the ID. Although that probably wouldn't work it's all I'd think of.
Also, when I'm beta testing, let me know when the plot divides in 3- I could test all 3, using savestates, and just continue in each as a separate game.
Oh, that wasn't a stab at your mapping, I honestly meant as an extra mapper, but it's totally fine. Thanks, I'll be sure to take advantage of that offer :D Lol, I was just using a dated tutorial. I've found a more up-to-date one and I've been looking at the in-game scripts to learn too. I just copied the Infinity Rom to another folder and am testing scripts on that. Currently I'm working with Applymovement, a lot of the game's first events have movements. Come to think of it, nearly every one of them does... Question, though- when looking for free space, is there a way to know how much bytes you should search for? Or is it just bigger scripts = more bytes? I don't think it actually matters (the script wouldn't be affecting the extra space at the end), but I wanted to know. Under XSE's command helper, it shows how much each command needs, but I don't really want to add-up before every script, if that can be avoided :D
I think I'll be going with Team Legend, as I don't recall seeing much of them yet. Freaking awesome you're splitting the storyline, I must say- and in 3. The neutrality option is interesting too, though, it'll be a bit like when you had to fight both Magma and Aqua in Emerald.
This project has actually progressed really far. Thank you SO MUCH for not giving up. I mean, I've worked with a few, and know people here that give up, project after project. Though I didn't think of it much back then, they wasted alot of their time and effort- and that of other people- by quitting. It's good to be part of a hack that has an end to it, even though I don't know what that is. :)
As for Trainer sprites, pshh, no problem at all. Especially not with Fire Red, as there's the whole collection of RSE sprites there to replace. I can make trainer sprites too, so if you need help on that front let me know.
Anyway, I should make a new tree for.. _______ Forest (sorry, name's escaped me). I'll just edit the one in there to fit in with the new palette, it should look fine. If not I'll just make a new one. I completely forgot about that, sorry. I'll get to work on that later.
Final exam today, as of 5pm I'm free for the summer :) (YAY)
    Indoor treehouse tiles inserted :)
Although despite the extra tiles, I replaced the pale path of Pallet Town- there were no blank palettes left, so that would have looked messed up anyway.
Going with your wish to keep grass indoors, I found a way to fit the grass vile indoors, although there's something strange about the animation. I'll see what I can do, but if I can't work it, I'll make another tile that doesn't need an animation.
I have to say, it fits in really well. I'll port them to the ROM when you send me the next beta. I've also made new mountain tiles and have inserted them, too. Having no school is brilliant, I can knock stuff out of the way in only an hour or two :D
Glad you like the climbing rocks, too.
... I probably should have offered before, but if you ever want an extra mapper (I know, there's like two of you guys already), I wouldn't mind giving a hand. Only if you need one though. Let me know if you do, and I'll show you some Infinity maps as proof.
Actually, I think I may have edited the palettes of Erika's gym so the tree/flower would fit with all the rest. Didn't know it gave two more grass tiles though, so... That's a plus ^^
Regarding the shading, yes I know what you mean. I'll replace the Plat tree with a DP shadowed one. The trees I sprite never have those shadows on them, as I base them off the DPPt style usually, which don't show side shadows (due to their bigger size). Not that that's a problem, a minute in Photoshop's all it takes :) if I work it out right there'll be more space for other tiles, too.
Haha, the vine. I was thinking of a ladder, but the vine seemed the more natural option, what with the player being brought up by Pokemon.
Ah, now I remember- you know in Pike Peaks, the Chansey in the cave? That came off to me as the tile errors Manipulation mentioned. Maybe avoid putting grass in a cave, if there's no real need for it? (up to you, it's just something I noticed). Also with the pool in there, I remember it being walkable- if you want to be able to walk on it, you need to use the puddle tiles instead of the pond tiles. If it's in fact a pool, though, you should use M. Permission 4.
    Anyway, glad you like :)
Is there any tileset I can edit the RSE Secret base tiles into? Like an indoor one- that's one thing I dislike about FR- the sheer lack of graphical space. I could try to work it into Erika's gym tiles, though? Nothing would be erased that way.
Glad I finally got them to ya :D
Sent to your hotmail. I sent it to myself first, and checked the one I sent to you- both had attachments, so it should work. I know what to do to make Gmail work properly, it was a technical problem on my end, so my bad :( sorry
Anyway, I adjusted the palettes.. Drastically. They're alot darker, kinda similar to DPPt's, but.. Meh, you'll see. Be SURE to check out every one of your (outdoor) maps for tile errors (mainly in the trees, both big and small). Also, regarding the tile errors Manipulation referred to, he must have been talking about inside the player's house. I know what you were going for with the walls at the side, but you're probably going to need new tiles for that, as they way you had them.. Well, technically it was a tile error. I could insert some RSE Secret Base tiles- I just thought of that now, sorry. They can wait til the release after this one, eh?
Also, the mountain tiles look a bit out of place with the new palettes. If you want to, tweak the mountain palettes, but I plan on making new mountain tiles too, if that's okay.
I suggest playing to Hallowed Grove before opening the newly-patched rom in A- Map- just to see how things look in game.
    Anyway... That's all :D
    OMFG, gmail sucks.
Right, I'll get on to that in a while, I'll make a HotMail account, and upload it to 4shared. This is actually ridiculous, sorry about that (it doesn't show me whether it's attached or not, I just select the file and hit send, which I always do, and although it didn't work a fair few times... It worked a few times!)
making new email, will get it to you ASAP.
Thanks. Friday is when I have my next two- German and Design Comm. Graphics. Going to be a terrible day, but I'll just have to tackle it, head-on. That's literally all I can do, hehe.
    Gah, sorry D: I SUCK.
That's fine, I swear, over my own hack- my child- that I will email you a patch within 24 hours of sending this VM. I'm in the middle of these horrible exams- had two today, 3 last week, 1 tomorrow.. Though after the one tomorrow, I'm off til Friday, so tomorrow evening I'll be free to send it. Sorry again that it took this long.
Also, I've come to detest the tiles I've shown you. They're inserted and all, so I'll still send it, but perhaps at a later stage (asap) I'll insert different ones. The DPPt ones I showed you actually suck now- you caught me as my abilities curved, lol. If you like them, it's fine, but I'll show you some others (when I make them) and you can change your mind if you want.
Hey, If you need any more maps done for HT, now's a good time to let me know, cause I'm not very busy. :3
Tch, mods always give the short, rude replies to the wrong people.
I looked at your conversation with him, I agree that any tile errors were fixed. And regarding maps.. I mean, isn't it a matter of opinion? I thought the maps were fine, generally. I guess all you can do is wait for a reply. I'll try to get a look at the maps later and see if I can distinguish what people regard as "ugly". Other than that... Definately don't get disheartened. I've seen, and worked for, several hacks that just went nowhere, despite having popularity (and they weren't even that good, now that I look back on them). But with HT, I can see you have an actual vision for it, and you know what you're doing with it, which is the most important thing. Do what you gotta do, man- it's your hack, and I'm behind you :)
(lol, remember how our VMs used to get really long?
    Weeelllll...).
Damn it, I'm never making promises again, sorry :(
I'll have the patch when I can. The tiles are all done- it's just Tentakill that's left. Once I get a chance, I'll forward it on to you.
Also, I've been meaning to say... You should see if you can get moved to the Showcase. HT is clearly good enough to be there, and it also has technically more than two Gym Leaders (technically meaning.. Yeah, you get it), which is a requirement. I'm serious, you should apply.
Sorry, I lost the internet for a day :(
anyway, Pokeyomom's the guy. I will have that patch to you tomorrow, just working on a backsprite for Tentakill.
Lol- that's what I forgot. I sent another PM, and...
    *drumroll*
Yeah, he said yes. I told you he would, he's wicked like that. Anyway, I'd not only forgotten about that, but about inserting Tentakill altogether. So this evening, I will sprite a suitable Tentakill (essentially a resize of what you see in the picture. Or, if that sprite fits in 64x64, then I'll just port it). But I've still to sprite a backsprite for it, then I'll insert it this evening. Over what did you want me to insert it, again?
(oh yeah, regarding the maps- the trees now fit, but each map essentially requires the tree areas to be redone, to avoid tile errors. I've been fixing this myself, but my mapping tends to get a bit repetitive- which is why I don't generally use two trees. Anyway, if I did a terrible job at placing trees over where trees had previously been, you can always fix that, lol.
You know, I'll just edit the bottom of the Plat tree a little so it fits with the other- not majorly, just enough for them to join nicely.
I've also inserted a Chatot over Farfetched, as you requested when I last beta tested.
It's actually looking pretty nice, if I do say so (which I do, modestly :P). The darker colours look nice in the HT universe, lol.
And it's no problem. I'm not even going to tell you off for gratitude anymore, lol. It's fine, a pleasure to help ;)
    I have inserted tiles :3
Several weeks ago, in fact. I will email them to you shortly after this VM.
I managed to fix the glitchy border in the Player's room, and I made some tiles for the things you'd been using the fences for, like the Vine coming out of the Player's tree, or the climbing-rocks on Bruno's Isle. I hope you like them, I'll email shortly :D
EDIT: Actually, bit of a setback. I need to make space in the main tileset for 4 tiles. I've looked, but the only one's that don't seem likely to be used are the Hedge ones (beside the Gym tiles in A-Map, Mapping mode). Is it alright if I erase them? I need to remove 4- due to the extra tree, overlap tiles (ie. Bottom of one tree-top of another) are needed for both trees. Also, maps are a little messed up now. Not glitched or anything, but the trees are mixed up. All that means though is that you have to remap the tree parts, that's it- I can do that, anyway. But, I'll send the email some other time. Exams starting two weeks- officially finished secondary school, but officially beginning consuming books....
