Well, local European food differs from country to country, and some history knowledge is needed for that; but it is essentially not much different than American food, and we eat beef soup, steaks and potato as well :)

He is. To beat him, you just have to speed up your emulator and continuously battle wild Pokemon.
Before you beat the first two Gyms, the game is pretty tough. After that, you'll start getting access to some good Pokemon, if you explore even a tiny bit.

Well some great hackers are still alive....DJG, LaZ, Fuji, Darthatron, Fireworks, Manipulation, Wesley...and thats pretty much all I can name for now xD
