Well, it certainly didn't help that it was the way the franchise was marketed from the start... you couldn't even play as a girl until Crystal, not to mention the anime alkways has had the same (annoying, unattractive, bumbling) male lead. As for why the cat Pokemon are given bad stats, it must be bias. Someone at Game Freak hates cats, which also explains why no cats of previous generations have been announced for B2/W2. I hate it, but I've had to resign to putting up with bad stats to have cats on my teams. But not only that, cats are portrayed as EVIL... Meowth of TR being the most obvious example.
And I've seen that regarding the Let's Plays. Though I did one for Leaf Green, and I obviously chose Leaf (though I just posted videos of major boss battles and not the entire gameplay). Female protagonists definitely need more love. Leaf should have been in HG/SS, no questions asked.
We'll see about B2/W2 and how many choose the girl (something I've done from the very start lol). Can't comment on the anime because I've haven't watched it since early Johto (when it became clear we wouldn't be getting a new main character).
Believe me, this bias is painfully obvious to me, but I'm used to being in the underwhelming minority regarding a lot of my thoughts about Pokemon. Like that trailer not impressing me in the least, for example. I don't care how slick the video looks, or how big a budget went into it, if it features characters and Pokemon I don't care for, I'm not going to be impressed by it.
