Last time I ever recall making an angry post was probably a decade ago. But then again, it was my first time on a forum and I was pretty young back then. I feel like I'm too old to get that worked up over anything except for stuff that's happening around me iRL. Online, it's just not that important.
I'm usually always relaxed or better online, even though tone is hard to notice over the internet. Even if it sounds like I'm ranting, it's really more of just an opinion, but I'm not really feeling any emotions at the moment. If there's something I don't necessarily care for, I just ignore it. There's no sense in trying to be confrontational, because (1) it eats up to much of your precious time to bother with (2) it's just an opinion more often than not. We all have things we don't agree on, I'm sure every has said something that may have struck a nerve with someone else even when unintended, and didn't even realize it, (3) you're usually not going to change that person's mind or PoV, (4) I try to see it from all sides, and (5) more often than not, the only reason people get upset over anything is because of a breakdown in communication. It's either misinterpretation, or the poster in question didn't write what they really meant in the best way possible, and may have opted for a shorter, less explanitory post. If you really must respond, I'd ask them to elaborate rather than exclaim "them's fightin' words". If you have good reasons to back up your argument, present them clearly and try to keep a positive or neutral tone at best. You will never convince anyone about anything in a negative voice. Then there's trolls, but you either ignore them or laugh with/at them and move on.
If you're reason for signing up anywhere is to enjoy yourself, you might as well, right?
It's one thing to take a stance for something and defend your claims, and there's nothing wrong with differing opinions and having good discussion, but as for anything potentially inflammatory, I just stay out of it. I also stay out of anything taboo or controversial, but that's more because I can't be bothered to talk about it anyway. I'm mostly on a Pokemon forum to (sort of) talk about Pokemon anyway, to the best of my ability, at least. :) I recognize I'm not great at it (better than everyone in my class, though, surprisingly), but hey, I like one of these new X/Y Pokemon, that counts for something. The Vulpix knockoff, however, is unforgivable.
Yes, that's a joke. :P Just to be clear, haha, I actually never care about that kind of stuff. If anything, I have my favorite Pokemon, and everyone else is usually just there at the worst. The only thing I actually don't care for is making something over the top and complicated for the sake of being over the top and complicated, but that's just because it doesn't make sense in the scope of animation, which once you understand is my background, becomes easier to say "ok, I can see why he says that".
