Mmm, sounds like...The Inheritance Cycle? No, The Inheritance Cycle was completely different and totally fell apart plot-wise after Book 1-Eragon.
Oh, have you made an outline for the general plot? It's a good way to keep focused, even if you don't stay entirely on track with it.
On a side note, I had something similar planned for Feral Twilight too, but they were separate parts to the same Book. Part One was Lost in Longing, focused on Jay's lust for vengeance against his sister after he lost his title to her (the theme tying into the in-story deity Corros's symbolism of greed/envy/lust/etc.); Part Two was Found in Fury, and focused on Jay's growing anger during his quest to stop Otulp's ultimate ambition to destroy humanity (symbolic of the deity Vaspudem's theme of fury/rage/hatred/etc.); Part Three would've been Tried by Terror, where Jay finally gained the means to confront Otulp only to a serious personal loss (Otulp is symbolic of fear/terror/anguish/etc. in the story); and Part Four was to be The Lost Goddess, which was sort of an epilogue where Jay goes on a mission to reawaken the spirituality of the three gods' mother (whom is an all-powerful being that forsook her emotions to become an entity of pure logic). Ultimately, I think it may've just fallen apart by Part Three because the plot was way too lengthy to keep together without massive revisions to the entire story from the beginning.
...Ick, sorry for all this story talk... I really intend to focus on helping you, if you need advice. I just have a bad tendency to get caught up in nostalgia...
