  • There are currently proposal threads for a ROM hacking news article series and a Top 5 hacks article. We'll probably start on a news/newsletter article in a few weeks as things have been busy.

You could post your ideas in any of these threads if you have some. I'll let you know if we need any help with the newsletter-like articles!
We're trying to get some kind of ROM hacking news article series for PC Daily, yeah. If you're interested in helping with writing, let me know!

You can either propose aricles in this section here, or offer to help with the news article series (it's me and hashtag for now) either as Daily staff (the orange usernames), or by contributing small parts of the article. FBI, for example, has offered a small useful routine for a "tips and tricks" section.

btw since you took down the download link for the old Mirage of Tales and are planning to restart it, I moved it to Progressing Hacks
Oh it wasn't actually my birthday, it was Audy's. :P

Yes, it's caused issues before. I'm using 1.92 which is supposed to be better than 1.95, but sometimes when expanding blocks and importing blocks, some tilesets are overwritten. I think it only happens when you're importing and not when expanding, though. And sometimes it doesn't even happen, I'm thinking it might have to do with importing not actually expanding the blocks and so some existing blocks in a different tileset are overwritten. Perhaps try expanding the blocks manually before you import them? It doesn't happen too often and it's easy to fix, and never caused any unfixable things for me, but keeping several backups when working with tilesets can help. Sometimes going back to a previous working ROM and doing the exact same tileset import/expansion will work just fine.
    This program right HERE
I used it a bit today and inserting overworld images doesnt seem to work very well, but it does read the tables nicely, although it does repoint EVERYTHING when you first open it. So in order to use NSE again you gotta get the right offsets.
No for adding new OW's you should use OWM for sure. Its a pain in the ass to add them manually.
Well, I do, but the problem with what you want to do is that the running shoes animation is attached to the walking sprite, so you would have to make all of the walking animations the same size. This isn't an issue but it's just a heads up. Anyways, it's easiest(in my opinion) to use NSE's built in sprite resizing. Do not use Overworld Editor. And I don't have enough experience with OWM to say how well that works.

A suggestion for this though. You could possibly either A: hack the bike routines to be able to use different sprites, or B: to hack the running shoe routine in order to swap between running and walking, that way you don't have odd transitions when swapping from walking to riding a pokemon.
