Thanks for getting to me so fast, uhh and I don't mean for stat boosting items, I mean for the total limit for pokemon in general. This person said they want to remove ev caps so they can gain evs for their pokemon's stats indefinitely. like the total cap is 510, while the per stat limit is 255, they wanted to remove those, but I'll pass what you said along and tell them to try checking there.
Thanks a lot for being cool about that btw, I know ya'll put a lot of effort into balancing and making the game and some people wouldn't be cool with helping people break off and do what they want with it. oh and if you want to reach out to the guy directly here's the thread, we've been talking in.

Ok cool, that sounds pretty good actually, it sounds simpler than what my thought was, alright I'm pretty n00b, sooo this function, it can be called or accessed in binary, or would I have to use decomp to get at that? Is it a script I can look at and read through what it does? I'll try checking that offset in my fire red later.
So was yours like a new menu option created based on the function for new game. Like did you beat the game and then when you restarted the rom new game + was an option on the continue menu?
Or was it an in-game trigger, it probably doesn't make much difference but I was thinking of making mine an in-game event.
I think the deciding factor on how I implement my ng+ would be if I can apply your method in a scipt along with other strings to make changes to pokemon etc.
