Isn't Squirty a bit small for us to swim on? But I feel like swimming might be a tricm answer(sorry if I don't make sense, got a cold and I'm very tired -.-) so #1! THEN we can swim across!

40. Toad troubles

Location: Gonji Lakes

Okay, there's no time to waste, otherwise that slimeball may find a way to escape. You have one chance to capture it in a Pokéball, or maybe four, not much that's the point at least. "Pokéball, go!"

You take one of the Pokéballs from your bag and fling it through the air. Flying over the lake, the ball makes a whizzing sound until it hits a solid surface. While you were pretty close, certainly regarding the distance, the ball missed the small purple Pokémon, bouncing on the ground and rolling into one of those purple berry bushes. Then you notice a red flash and you think to hear a soft click afterwards. "Wynia, Jingles, go check out what happened. We'll walk around the lake and meet you there."

You start running in order to prevent losing valuable time, carrying Scrambles in your arms, because he wouldn't be able to keep up otherwise. For a moment you consider sending out Squirty to carry you over the lake, but then you realize you can't recall ever learning Surf to her. You would sink like a brick.

While your attention is focused on the water you nearly trip over a Seismitoad, which was enjoying the sunlight near the water. It doesn't seem to be amused about you running into him. It stands up and shows off his muscles, ready to take revenge on the person who disturbed his nap.

What do you do?
1. Turn around and run back.
2. Beg it to not hurt you.
3. Jump into the water.
4. Try the classic "Hey, what's that thing behind you?" maneuver.
5. Err... fishing rod?
The next chapter can be expected in about 72 hours.

judging from Revise's reply, 'Fishing Rod' means something interesting... sadly i don't know what, so i'll follow the others in #4.

EDIT: based on Lycan's reply below, allow me to switch to #5 too. i must see this Fishing Rod in action!

The fishing rod has been a running gag through the story since it saved you from burning to crisp in Chapter 20. It reappeared for more randomness in Chapter 33 and Chapter 37. Since then it somehow got proclaimed as the supreme ruler of the universe.
 
I thought Sandshrew with a Poisoned Icecream is our ruler, who's making all this incorrect crap up!? :D

Sven, Sandshrew gave us the fishing rod, why else would it save us? oh so that means it will ultimately destroy us if it's from sandshrew
