Oliphant, the Careful Venusaur
Level 44, Ability: Overgrow
Rock Smash, Sleep Powder, Leech Seed, Razor Leaf
Thoughts: Not exactly the amazing pokemon I remembered from back when I was a kid, he had his uses early one in the game, but maybe it was just unfavorable types towards the end of the game, but yeah...
Would I use him again?: I mean yeah, if I had to, I wouldn't complain, but I would still probably choose Squirtle over him as a starter.
Polaris, the Naughty Magneton
Level 52, Ability: Sturdy
Tri Attack, Thunder Wave, Shock Wave, Thunderbolt
Thoughts: Magneton was definitely the surprise of the run for me. I fell IN LOVE with Magneton, I had never really used him before, but once I gave him Thunderbolt, it was off to the races. He went absolutely insane vs the Elite 4, starting the run at level 46, ending the run at level 52. He single handedly soloed Lance, it wasn't pretty, but he did. At the end game, it pretty much came down to, if I don't have an immediate answer, throw in Magneton, see what happens. MVP of the run, BY FAR.
Will I use him again?: ABSOLUTELY. I used to never really catch Magnemites, just passing them up, but good lord, I will use him again and again whenever I see him.
Miasmas, the Serious Nidoqueen
Level 44, Ability: Poison Point
Surf, Superpower, Bite, Earthquake
Thoughts: Maybe I did something wrong, but wasn't quite the heavy hitter I was expecting her to be, might have had something to do with level difference. The moveset coverage is amazing though, so definitely a good spot on the team if not for that reason alone.
Will I use her again?: Yeah, not a bad choice, wouldn't be my first choice, but definitely not a bad choice.
Mothra, the Impish Venomoth
Level 43, Ability: Shield Dust
Gust, PoisonPowder, Psychic, Supersonic
Thoughts: Had its highs and lows during the run. The lows majorly came when it was still a Venonat. It had its clutch moments though, including soloing the entirety of Koga's gym.
Will I use it again?: Meh? I'm either way on Venomoth. If someone told me to use it, I wouldn't be like "AWWW REALLY?!" but I wouldn't go into an average run and go "OH MAN GOTTA GET A VENOMOTH!"
Tectonix, the Calm Onix
Level 39, Ability: Sturdy
Strength, Toxic, Rock Throw, Dig
Thoughts: One of two major pains in my run, I just could never find a niche for Onix over the course of the run, his best moment came in the final fight against Gary, where he evaded a Fire Blast to stick a Toxic onto Charizard, only to evade another Fire Blast. With Charizard wasting 3 Fire Blasts on a level 39 Onix, that allowed Polaris to safely come in and clean up.
Will I use it again?: Probably not. I was not amused. Maybe he's better if you can get him to Steelix, but if he has to stay an Onix? No.
Dux, the Bashful Farfetch'd
Level 40, Ability: Inner Focus
Fly, Swords Dance, Cut, Fury Cutter
Thoughts: The second pain of my run, he just always seemed to fall behind. I would catch him up, and he would fall behind again. He was just too frail for me, although oddly enough, he did get the final killshot on Gary versus his Exeggutor, after Polaris had burned ALL of his non-ThunderWave PP tanking it. I threw in Farfetch'd to try to figure out its last move, as I couldn't remember it from earlier in the fight, to see if it was safe to throw in Venusaur for clean up. Turned out Fly killed it and Dux took the glory. But I digress, I just couldn't get into him.
Would I use it again?: No, I probably won't I have flying types I like a lot better than Farfetch'd, like Pidgeot and my personal favorite, Staraptor.
