  • I usually (not always) name them with Japanese stuff when it's a Japanese game. Oh yeah, this is Platinum I am speaking of.

Infernape - Hono (Hono, which is Japanese, means fire.)
Luxray - Ray (The name says it all.)
Gastrodon - Shai (This was one of my character's in my manga I made.)
Gardevoir - Saik (After Marriland, who named his Kadabra/Alakazam with that.)
    Togepi - Toki (Toki toki~)
Riolu - Hadou (As of Infernape, Hadou means Aura.)
Uxie/Azelf - Uxie/Azelf (I can identify them quickly even if I can't see the sprite)
Leafeon - Eve (It was an Eevee, so...)

That's all, I'll dig them all out later. My parents are home. They don't KNOW I own an NDS. (They think I borrowed it from my buddy.)

  • I have never nicknamed a pokemon in all my years of pokemon fandom. I think its stupid, generic, and just paves a way for retards to give their pokemon stupid nicknames. I think their original names they were given by the pokemon game designers themselves is much more suitable for obvious reasons.

    Think of it like this:
When you were born, you got a name. But some people might want to apply a nickname to you, see?:) And that is probably why Nintendo added it to pokemon. While using the feature is optional, it is still nice. Don't be so negative :)

I know you are entitled to your own opinion, but I have a question....does that mean you look down on those who actually choose to give thier pokemon nicknames?

  • Honestly, I can't stand nicknames. I don't think I've ever nicknamed a Pokemon; if I have, it was probably as a joke that I can't even remember now. The nickname factor is pretty much the reason why I never use in-game traded Pokemon; the one exception being Jynx in R/B, which I have used a few times. I just pretend to call it Jynx, not Lola. =P

  • I either use a completely random word that really makes no sense, or do the generic thing and use their name or their appearance to decide what their name is. Usually the latter.

For example, my current training party is:
Shiny Staraptor - Emo (awesome emo hair, right?)
    Pikachu - Chewy
    Dialga - Ledgend
    Chimchar - Red
    Luxio - Sparkplug
    Piplup - Linux
    Bulbasaur - Sprout

    An-chan

    Whoops.

  • I nickname the ones on my team, but not many others.
Empoleon - Piyon (the name was much more suitable when it was still a piplup)
Luxray - Shin (from shinx, but it turned out to be a good name)
    Roserade - Brose
    Staraptor - Starrie
    Graveler - Gemmer
Rapidash - Radeem (after a rapidash in my fic)
Eevee - Renian (after a character in one of my stories)
Pikachu - Pikanel (after my pair in PMD blue!)
Pichu - Jonan (My Volt Tackle -Pichu, named after a character in a story)
Psyduck - Ducker and Duckie (a boy and a girl, respectively)
Azurill - Azurem (just random, it never even was on my team so I didn't bother naming it well)

Nickname's according to there moves or according to what kind of Poke they are, or names inspired by people, or just plain names of other Pokes.

    Jolteon - Thunda
    Suicune - Sweet
    Vaporeon - Umbreon
    Muk - MukTudor

I usually don't nickname my Pokémon, unless I can think of a good one or are determined to.

Well, first there's the obvious: My most loved Pokemon, Nighwitch the Murkrow.

Then we have Sombrero the Infernape, Cyrus the Giratina (I'm serious... I named my Giratina Cyrus. xDDDD), Silverduck the Golduck, Cliche the Golbat, Kris the Persian, Caro the Raichu, Helio the Magneton, and Bad Guy the Mesprit. (Those last four were little fanfic jokes. ^^)
