why don't use the animations of the bsaical game? The time to draw new ones.
Not all the move animations can be done with the particles from vanilla Emerald. Some are practically done, Surf's animation is almost the same as Nami's Tidal Wave so that would be an example of one that's done. I don't want some moves to have animations and some to not.
It's perfectly possible to make good animations for the moves but art isn't my strong point and it would literally take half a year for me to draw all the necessary particles but I have uni so it would take even longer. On top of that I'd have to write the animation scripts and then test them and then probably get the sound effects for the moves.
It's a LOT of work that is just unnecessary right now. Plus battles go faster without animations so that's a plus.
What do you mean when you say speed is is pretty bad in this game. Speed is just as large of an important stat in Pokemon as any other stat (probbaly the most important stat honestly). Wouldn't it not be any different in this game. Is there a reason why it would be bad, like do fights last a super long time so who goes first doesn't matter as much. I'd assume someone with a silence or stun might want to be faster than others to get it off quicker. Also is there going to be double battles? I know that was something in Emerald version and don't know if you plan on keeping it in.
Ok, sorry what I said might have sounded a bit confusing to someone that hasn't played my hack.
Speed doesn't matter that much because move priorities are arranged like ranges in League. Long range moves have a higher priority than melee ones for example. In Pokemon most moves have the default priority so speed plays a greater role in strategy.
However, battle strategies are still being tested as well as balancing so in future I might decrease the number of priorities available so more moves share the same priority and therefore speed will play a greater role.
Stuns and such were just recently fixed to always affect the target for 1 turn regardless of who moved first in battle. So, how do I explain this:
1 uses stun, 2 is stunned. Next turn 2 can attack.
1 uses a non cc move, 2 uses a stun. Next turn 1 is stunned.
So basically, stuns/silences/knockups/snares will always affect the target for a turn, you don't have to hit first. Oh and you can't chain stun by stunning someone while they are stunned. You get a free turn after you're stunned where you can attack just to make it fair.
With almost every bug with the battle system fixed, it's easy to test stuff now. Really statuses were the biggest problem.
Lastly, yes there are double battles. League is a team game so I've made it so that every battle is a double battle excpet ones where you or the enemy only have one Champion that can battle and battle frontier type places. If you don't want to fight doubles, use one Champion. Although I think fighting doubles makes it funner.
