    10x that's useful.
Something I'm not sure of.. what does "FTW" mean?
Its most common usage is, like Mismaguis said, "for the win", but it can also mean "**** the world".

A'ight, my contribution, this is how I know the word "noob", or "n00b" if you like.
To put it into a category, "noob" falls under gaming.

    Noob
    n

    Noob
    v
(video gaming) To mess about/play around; to be silly/not take seriously; to wander around aimlessly in the manner of a newbie.
-"Quit noobing about and play properly."

This isn't slang, not one bit. These are all acronyms (save for the terms n00b and noob, but those have become a lot more common place nowadays).

Anyway, there is no need to display offensive acronyms as examples in this thread, since ... well, it's offensive, and it encourages members to bypass the forum censors. So no more of it.

Urm, no, there isn't a difference between noob and n00b, noobcake, nooblet, nub, etc.
So no, there isn't one between woot and w00t either.

What is "bypassing the censors" anyway?

and this isn't an acronym, but it is only used on internet:
<3 = Love (looks like a heart on its side)
<333 = Love lots (looks like 3 hearts stacked on top of each other)

LULZ is a corruption of LOL, which stands for laugh out loud. (source: Faux News)

uh, I used to think it was that too, but after receiving some clarification on the matter, the forum censors actually place those stars there in the case of swearing. In the cases here, the censor bypassing involved something like Q***** (I've edited them all out though). Basically it's anything that gives hints to the actual word being concealed or allows the ~forbidden~ word to be revealed by tricking the censors somehow.

Though one can always establish it by the context and it's location in the sentence o.o

I hope that made sense, I kinda explained it in a roundabout way. Anyway, any further discussion or questions on the matter can be directed to the staff via PM or in CQ&F.

Yes, that is correct, although I don't get why people just dont type leet or elite. Here are a few of mine:

Ttyl - Talk to you later
Bbl - Be back later (when a Brb isn't enough to describe how long you'll be out)
    Cuz - Because
    Gl - Good luck
    Bff - Best friends forever

  • I guess some increasingly popular Japanese net slang/AA's apply here too.

OTL / orz = Man falling down on his knees in defeat.

    ∑(°д°) = Unexpected surprise.

(´・ω・`) = Sad face. Usually accompanied with 「ショボーン」 (shobo-n), which indicated even more sadness and disappointment.

(`・ω・´) = Face full of energy. Usually accompanied with 「シャキーン」 (shaki-n), which indicates happiness and will.

(・∀・) = Multi-purpose AA. Can be used to promote happiness in threads, while it can also be used with 「ニヤニヤ」 (niya niya;snickering laughter) to make fun of people who just said something dumb in their posts.

    (・∀'(@ニニ(Д゜#) = stfu

There's more, but common ones are here.
Also, illustrated guide to 2ch ascii art. In case you are interested.
