  • Nidoqueen charged as the final battle began. Warren (that's the trainer...or maybe the gym leader. Screw it, its both of them.) grinned.

"Into the air, Poliwhirl!" The tadpole nodded as it jumped forwards, just making it over Nidoqueen's head before landing on all fours and spinning around.

"Now, Bubble!" Poliwhirl threw its arms back and cried out as a stream of bubbles flew out of the almost invisible hole in the centre of its round body. Nidoqueen just roared once more, tiny poisonous barbs flying out of its mouth and popping the bubbles. The droplets fell to the floor as Poliwhirl and Nidoqueen faced each other down, both of them pumped up and ready to fight.

"Give it a Water Gun!" Poliwhirl attacked again, this time sending a solid stream of water at the enemy. Nidoqueen growled as it was forced back, but dug its feet in and slowly ground to a halt. Poliwhirl ended the attack, frowning at Nidoqueen. Though it had been weakened by the water, it didn't seem particularly hurt and, charging forward, it slashed at Poliwhirl. The tadpole stumbled back as the sharp claws nicked its damp, supple skin, leaving faint lines across its belly. Poliwhirl hissed in pain and Warren (trainer) frowned, chewing his lip as ideas turned over in his mind.

    "Double Slap it!"

"Defend with Double Kick!" Poliwhirl swung madly with its glove hands, but both attacks were met and smacked away by Nidoqueen's flailing feet. The tadpole retreated, clenching its fists angrily.

    "Body Slam it, Nidoqueen!"

Warren (the trainer) rolled his eyes, but didn't bother with an order as Nidoqueen fell right onto Poliwhirl, then slipped straight off and landed face first on the ground. Smirking at the gym leader, he flicked open his neglected Pokedex, bringing up Poliwhirl's data.

"Poliwhirl, the Tadpole Pokemon. Its body surface is always wet and slick with an oily fluid. Because of this greasy covering, it can easily slip and slide out of the clutches of any enemy in battle." He snapped it shut as the other Warren nodded, impressed.

"Very good. Using your Pokémon's natural attributes in your favour...but you're not the only one who can." He gestured at Poliwhirl who, despite mostly escaping the attack, was looking fatigued.

"Nidoqueen is capable of poisoning enemies on contact. I suspect that may be what has happened...let's try another Scratch, Nidoqueen!" Poliwhirl threw itself out of the may, but was weakening from the poison and was sent flying by a quick Tackle. Groaning feebly, it struggled back to its feet. Nidoqueen pawed the ground and growled triumphantly, sensing a victory that was almost tangible.

"Tackle!" Warren (that's the gym leader) shouted and Nidoqueen charged, lowering its shoulder to barge Poliwhirl again. Poliwhirl didn't move. Instead, it braced itself, opened its small mouth and roared. But with the roar, came bubbles. Not just a few bubbles. Not just a normal Bubble attack. What came out was a veritable cascade of bubbles, a stream so thick that it was almost solid. Nidoqueen skidded to a stop as it charged straight into the attack, growling as they struck it, the flow almost completely engulfing it. Warren (back to the trainer now) gasped, his eyes wide.

"Warren, that was Bubblebeam!" Danny whispered excitedly from behind him. Finally, the attack subsided, revealing Nidoqueen, barely standing and Poliwhirl, who was beginning to look very ill. Nidoqueen's poison must be powerful. Just one more attack would do it.

    "Water Gun!"

"Body Slam, Nidoqueen!" Dodging the first jet of water, Nidoqueen ran forwards and leapt into the air. For a second, everything seemed to stand still. Poliwhirl spun, gazing up at the flying dinosaur and let out one final jet of water. It caught Nidoqueen in the face and suddenly, everything snapped back to full speed. Spinning from the blast, Nidoqueen fell...right onto Poliwhirl. A huge cloud of dust erupted from the point of impact and both Warrens shielded their eyes. Finally, the dust settled, revealing Nidoqueen. It was lying, face down on the floor, unconscious. All that could be seen of Poliwhirl was its stubby legs, sticking out from underneath. Suddenly, they twitched. Warren (the trainer) gasped as slowly, ever so slowly, Nidoqueen's side began to rise higher and higher into the air until, finally, a bruised, battered, but very much conscious Poliwhirl slipped out and struggled to its feet, victorious.

"And the match goes to Warren...the challenger!" the referee shouted as the challenger in question stood their numbly. He'd won. The last gym badge. This was it. He was going to the Pokemon League.

"Poli?" Warren looked down at his Poliwhirl, who was eyeing up the oddly unresponsive Warren numbly.

"We...we...we...did it." he finally gasped, a huge grin breaking out on his face.

"WE DID IT!" almost skipping with glee he ran forward, cheering and grabbed Poliwhirl, tossing him in the air with glee. It took a bit more effort than it had with Poliwag, that was for sure. The gym leader nodded, smiling.

"Well done. An exciting battle, for certain. Here, this badge is yours" Warren grinned even wider as he accepted the small green token, adding it to the others on his belt.

"Alright. Time to go win the Pokemon League, Poliwhirl! Danny, let's go back to my place and celebrate first!" Warren spun round, gazing down to the other end of the gym.

"Danny?" Warren frowned, a sense of dread welling up in the pit of his stomach. Danny was gone.

  • Now that the practice battle was done, and Sean had won, his confidence had rose towards his following battle. Sean was totally ready now to get started on his second battle although he had to sue a different Pokemon sicne Growlithe was worn out.
Blaine stood up from the table which he sat at, then clapped to signal that he was impressed.
"Well done. Looks like you're ready for the main event, to battle me for the 7th badge." Blaine was also ready. Jenny was at the side, calling Growlithe over to a bowl of food for its lunch.
"Your Growlithe deserves a good break. I'll give it some lunch, so it will be better in no time." she certainly was generous towards Pokemon, as Sean guessed.
Since Growlithe was on its break, Sean had to choose his next Pokemon to use in this battle. The choice took him not so long as he wanted the battle to be quick, and type-wize, there was no better Pokemon to choose than this.
"Now, let's start our battle, shall we? Horsea, do your stuff!" Sean got a PokeBall from his pocket, then launched it to the ground. Out came Horsea, who levitated above the ground with its two small, clear wings flapping at great spead to keep its weight up.
Since this was a Fire-type Gym and Horsea was a Water-type, Sean had made the best possible decision, because now Horsea's attacks would do more damage than usual. However, this could be cancelled out if Blaine had chosen a strong Pokemon. Blaine got a PokeBall out.
"Smart choice there. Do your best, Ninetales!" Blaine tossed the ball to the ground, releasing a cream coloured fox, with bright red eyes and nine curly tails. Natasha looked at it and made a cheesy smile, since she had a Vulpix that would become a Ninetales in time.
Now that both of the Pokemon were out, the battle was now ready to begin. It was up to themselves if they wanted to make the first attack, or just wanted to wait a little longer as a strategy. Blaine started off.
"Let's begin. Ninetales, start off with Quick Attack!" it was a very simple attack, that would be the good idea to use first in a battle since not many of Ninetales' attacks would work well on a Water-type. The fox was on four of its legs, all of its tails were wagging, before it then shot off at a lightning speed. While this attack was fast, too fast to see, Ninetales lost its focus and hadn't fully concentrated on Horsea yet, therefore, Ninetales ended up hitting a volcano wall. A bad start for Blaine.
"Hmm. Maybe next time." Blaine shrugged and accepted that his first attack had missed. He was sure that Sean wouldn't be so lucky either, and they both could make a mistake in the battle.
"Good start. Horsea, you begin with your Smokescreen!" this was Sean's usual startegy, by beginning with an accuracy lowering move. This way, Blaine's chance of missing would rise, giving Sean a very decent advantage. Horsea concentrated hard on Ninetales, who was sitting on its four legs, and shaking its head due to the damage of being hit against a wall. Once Horsea had concentrated hard enough, it shot out a black, gooey ball of ink that left off black drops that dripped onto the ground. This ball had then ended up bursting on Ninetales' eyes, causing several clouds of fog that blinded Ninetales slightly.
"Oh. That idea? I'm used to it. Trust me when I say it won't work." Blaine smiled with his eyes closed, and arms folded.
"It normally works. And it will work again. Just see." Sean pointed out the fact that his strategy works on any battle, as it can. Every Pokemon can get affected by weakened accuracy.
"Well, I don't see that happening. But just incase you have anything else planned, Ninetales, use Safeguard!" Sean had not known what this move was. He was just suspecting that is would be some move that would protect it from having its accuracy lowered further. He was not far off, instead, it would stop it from being conditioned. Nintetales was sta down on its four legs, then it started to make a howl into the air, which had then made itself glow. This blue glow had then turned into a circle, then finally, a veil had surrounded Ninetales for a second. Then, the veil disappeared.
Now that Ninetales was protected by conditions, Sean couldn't use any moves that would condition it. Although, Horsea had no moves that would be able to condition Ninetales anyway, so it was useless.
"I don't know what that was, but I don't care. Horsea, use Focus Energy." this attack would not do any damage, but Sean knew that it would increase Horsea's chances of making a critical attack that would do more damage than usual. Nobody had yet noticed that any direct damage was dealt, but they were planning on doing so soon. At this moment, Horsea began to fly a little faster in the same position it was flying in. Then, red sparks were beginning to fly from Horsea's body, showing that Horsea was getting its focus. Then, Horsea calmed down from the attack. Now any moves Horsea would do would have bigger impact.
"Always relying on luck, eh? Well, I'm going to officially make this battle hotter. Ninetales, use Quick Attack and this time, try and concentrate hard!" Blaine wanted to make sure that this attack would hit, because the last time, it made him more annoyed when it missed at the first go. Ninetales stood up, then dashed across the rocky floor, at the speed of sound. This attack was lots more direct and focussed, so the hit was successful. Ninetales ended up hitting Horsea head on, and the attack had crashed Horsea to the floor. Even at the first attack, Horsea was shocked. Just in an instant, Horsea got back up as if nothing had happened.
"Ahh, determination. Gotta love it." Blaine admired the way that Sean's Pokemon had the courage to not give up. Now that the first direct attack was given, Sean was going to follow it up with a very tough one.
"Better watch out for this one. Use Water Gun!" now Sean was taking advantage of the typing, by using one of Horsea's best moves. This could possibly ice the cake for him, as Water Gun was quite a strong move, and from Horsea, there was extra power, especially from Focus Energy. The floating Horsea then began to gather up lots of water inside its tubular mouth, then shot out a blast that travelled in a straight line. This water had then struck Ninetales very hard on its weak spot, its tails. Ninetales let out a painful yelp, then made a three point landing to the ground in pain. The attack had not won the battle for Sean, but close. Even on the first attack that did damge, it would take him more than one. All it took was one more, and Blaine couldn't risk that for now. It was time for him to release a really annoying attack.
"Very good indeed. Let's see if you can pull through this. Use Confuse Ray!" anything with the word 'Confuse' in it would take a smile of Sean's face and replace it with a frown, because confuse was the worst state for him to be in. Ninetales had stood up on its legs, then shook all its tails up. This had looked beautiful, but the next sight would certainly not be beautiful for Sean. Ninetales had opened its mouth, then released a purple, sparkling ray of a strange pyschic power. This ray was hard for Horsea to avoid, so Horsea floated on the spot, to then be zapped by this odd ray. After being zapped for a couple of seconds, Horsea ended up all over the place. Rather than floating, Horsea stumbled on its wings, showing that Horsea was now confused.
"...uh oh." Sean's speech was decaying since the battle could now turn around after a confusion state. Even after a very powerful Water Gun, a confusion state could cause Horsea's attacks to miss. However, he had to attack. Besides, he never knew. It could hit, and cause a very good win.
"Well, it's worth a try. Horsea, please, try and use Water Gun on Ninetales!" Sean's strength and relationship with Horsea could dispel its confused state, although it was unlikely. Confusion was confusion, and Sean had nothing to use that could cancel this effect. Still, Horsea could hear, so, it tried to fly up straight, then shot out some water. Atleast it had given some effort in trying to attack, but this Water Gun was totally slanted, and had travelled over towards Natasha. Luckily, she had avoided this Water Gun, and had waved to signal that she was okay. Although, this was a problem since the confusion looked quite bad. Could this battle really have turned over in Blaine's favour?
"Looks like things are goign back to the way they should. Now, Ninetales, use Quick Attack!" Blaine was totally used to using this attack, since it was the best one to use, even if it was repetetive. Without a word, Nintales was ready to begin with another Quick Attack. Blaine had a feeling that this attack could end the battle, atleast the first part. However, Sean had other plans and was sure that Horsea would pull through. Either way, it was down to this attack. Ninetales got up, and pushed its legs back. Then, Ninetales sped across the floor once again, over to Horsea who then got shoved to the ground with Ninetales' sheer force. Luckily, Horsea was not knocked out, so it was not the last attack. Matter of fact, the Quick Attack had busted Horsea's confusion.
"Wait... it's snapped out of it? How could this be!?" Blaine was so annoyed now that his Quick Attack had turned totally against him. Sean cheered with pride to know that he was close to winning.
"What luck! Horsea, let's finish this off! Use Bubblebeam!" this was Horsea's strongest move, and the Focus Energy was still in effect, and due to the confusion being broken, Horsea was totally likely to make this attack hit hard, very hard. Infact, as another boost, Horsea was so energised and relieved after being snapped out of confusion, that this attack would be more concentrated and focussed. So, without another word, Horsea gathered up some bubbled in its mouth, and then closed it eyes to show that there was going to be lots of effort being put into it. Then, finally, Horsea blew out a cannon of bubbles at shocking speed. There was an endless amount of these clear bubbles being shot out, so all the more damage that would be done to Ninetales. Once by one, each bubble that hit Ninetales felt like a bullet, it was hurting a lot. The final blast had bubbles had caused Ninetales to take no more, and fall to the ground, and faint. The first part of the battle was done now, and Sean was the winner.
"Yay! That was excellent! You did your absolute best and it had paid off! Way to go." Sean had smiled at Horsea deeply, and had then tapped its back to congratulate it. Sean returned Horsea, then hearing Blaine's speech, after he returned his Ninetales.
"That was very impressive. I think me and you are lots alike, you know. You have some strong potential in being a skilled trainer. Now, you have to take on my next Pokemon. Once you win this, the battle has been won and you get your badge. Get ready, because if you win, then I have a great reqard for you that I give nobody else." the final word had been like music to Sean's ears. Now it was official, Sean had to win the battle. It was now in his fingertips.

Now that there was a reward for Sean to earn, he was goign to be far more determined to win this battle. It was in his hands, since the first part he had already won. Plus, Sean was suspecting that his next Pokemon couldn't be that bad.
In the background, Natasha was rooting for Sean, while sitting on the bench at the other end of the room with Jenny, as Growlithe was playing with a ball.
"Go Sean! That badge is nearly yours!" she was there for him incase he needed help. Of course, that was highly unlikely in the stage that he was at. Jenny was the same.
"So. What's it going to be?" Sean was ready to see what he was up against on the next half of the battle. Blaine raised one eyebrow ith a smile, and took out a PokeBall.
"Glad you asked. This is what you're up against... Come on out, Magmar!" Blaine threw the ball to the ground, and out came some kind of Pokemon that had lots of red flames blazing from its body. This strange Pokemon was quite a tough Pokemon to beat. Tougher than Ninetales, definetely. Sean has also made his mind up on what he was using.
"Fine. Growlithe! Are you ready!?" Sean turned his head back to growlithe, who was lying on the floor. Growlithe responded right away, and made a bark, to show that it was. Growlithe came running over to Sean, and then took its place on the ground of the volcano.
The final battle of this Gym was about to begin, and nobody was feeling like they were going to lose. Unfortunately, one of them was. Of course, Sean had total faith in Growlithe as his partner, who had never let him down, never. Things in this battle were going to be more difficult for Sean, since he could no longer take advantage of types. They were both Fire-typed, so he was only limited to a few decent moves. He was ready, and had begun the battle.
"I'm ready to start this. Growlithe, begin by using Bite!" this was the typical move that Sean would command Grolwithe to use incase itas other moves wouldn't be good enough. While, also, being one of Growlithe's bestest. The idea in Sean's mind was to keep using it since it was the only real good move it had against Magmar. Growlithe got started, by pushing its body back, and then launching off at a high speed. Growlither then opened its mouth when near Magmar, then, when it was close enough, Growlithe took one large bite on Magmar's extremely hot body.
"Not a bad start. Let's use Faint Attack!" this was a strong move, and the worst thing to Sean, was that this attack would never miss. This means that he cannot get lucky when this attack is being used. Magmar slowly creeped over towards Growlithe, as this wasn't supposed to be a fast attack. Growlithe was not getting intimidated, though it was going to fight back. Then, when Growlithe was not expecting it, Magmar started to scratch Growlithe several times, which Growlithe had defienetely saw coming.
This battle was going to be different to the last one, since there was no startegy being used. Or was there? Sean was about to plan out another startegy to make his attacks stronger. There was only one way to do it, so he was going to get started with it.
"Time for another plan. Growlithe, use Leer!" with Leer, Growlithe would make Magmar less defensive, by giving it a threatening look. While rather unlikely to work, Sean was great at giving things a good try. Growlithe waited until Magmar made eye contact, then, once one eye pupil met the other, Growlithe began to lower its eyebrows, then its eyes glew a golden colour. This strange look had made Magmar sweat more than it does usual, as a reaction to the frightening look. This means that Magmar was less defensive against Growlithe, and now Growlithe would have more power over it.
"Come on. That strategy is very primitive, wouldn't you think?" Blaine's advice wasn't helping, especially not right now.
"Probably not, but it's worth it. You never know until you see what happens." Sean had a reason for everything, and he truly believed that with a little mind power things could turn out well.
"If you say so. I have my own plans, but we'll see where it gets us. Now, Magmar, use Smokescreen." now Sean was afraid, because aside to confusion, accuracy decreasing was the worst possible scenario, and this would be much harder for him to get through this battle. The strange flame-covered Pokemon began the attack by shotting out a blob of ink from its mouth, which had then travelled across the air, and then landing on the worst place possible - Growlithe's eyes. This ink had caused a small explosion of clouds, which had made Growlithe's eyesight a big problem.
"Well. I guess that makes things a lot easier. Looks like you're gunna have to step it up a gear if you want to win this battle, Sean." Blaine was pushing him further, but Sean didn't feel like it was encouragement. He felt more like it was pressure.
"Growlithe! Use Bite, and try to see!" in Growlithe's state, it would be difficult to see. Just like Ninetales in the previous battle. Things were like that right now, but not in a good way. It only meant that things were going to be harder, so Sean had his fingers crossed tight so the attack would hit. Growlithe closed its eyes, and started to run in a direction that was in the right line of Magmar. Although, in the middle of this running, Growlithe started to slant in the direction it was running, so instead, Growlithe ended up bitingits ball, which it had been playing with earlier on.
"Aw man." Sean slapped his head with disappointment, but he knew that the future of the battle would be bright. The unlucky streak was over for him, he could tell it.
"Don't worry. Maybe soon you'll suprise me. Magmar, use Smog!" while not being a very strong attack, Smog had a chance of doing something worse than confusing and accuracy lowering, much worse, it had a high chance of poisoning. While poisoned, Pokemon lose HP every turn and that would seriously weaken Growlithe if it were to happen. Magmar was alert, and began to shoot out a purple cloud of gas from its mouth. This poisonous gas quickly travelled over to Growlithe, who then coughed hard as a strong reaction to the Smog. Once the cloud cleared, Growlithe felt much more run down, which was a symptom to posion. This means that Growlithe would now weaken every turn.
"Well Sean, it looks as if Growlithe is poisoned. Now you'll really need something to compete with that." Blaine really was a clever Gym Leader, and had much more of a connection with him that any other.
"Don't you worry. Growlithe, use Bite once more!" Sean was very used to using this move, as it would be the only one he could use for now if he wished to get anywhere. Anything else had to wait. Growlithe got up on its legs, and then caught out where Magmar was, even with its poor sight. Then, Growlithe kept its concentration on Magmar as it began to run on all four legs. Then, once close enough, Growlithe took one bite onto Magmar's hot body. This attack was quite a strong one, and Magmar started to shake for a second in pain.
"That's more like it!" Sean cheered on Growlithe as he was proud to see that he was getting it right. Whereas, Sean couldn't see the damage done second by second due to poison. Blaine was still winning, and was not far off victory. Yet, Blaine still had a little further to go.
"You're forgetting that Growlithe is poisoned. Besides, with Magmar's power, you have to try a little harder than that. Magmar, use Faint Attack once more!" after the last one, Blaine was pleased with himself to see what Faint Attack could do. And since it couldn't miss, there was no getting out of the damage that this could do. Magmar started to slowly walk on over to Growlithe, making sure that Growlithe wouldn't see anything coming. It was working, Growlithe was just staring, waiting for something to happen right infront of its face. A few seconds later, Magmar stood still, then, when Growlithe did not expect a thing, Magmar took a lash out at Growlithe. This attack was a lot stronger than the last one, and Sean was getting really annoyed now as Growlithe had took to the floor, then making a coughing fit due to the posion.
"Argh... that's bad." Sean didn't like the way things were going. Damage was being dealt and there was nothing to be done but wait and watch.
"But still. Growlithe, try your best with another Bite!" Sean was now getting totally used to using the same move over and over, he was getting rather bored of it. Although, it was the only thing he could do. Growlithe was on its four legs, before launching into the air at a high speed. Then, Growlithe was charging while accellarating across the ground. This meant that Growlithe would make a hard attack on Magmar, and it was about time. Fianlly, Growlithe took one leap onto Magmar's flame body, taking it to the ground, before crushing its fangs onto its body. This was the attack he'd been waiting for, as the pain was visible on Magmar's body.
Now the battle was balanced, and any one of them could win. Although, Blaine had discovered Sean's weak spot, which had been discovered on the last battle. Now it was time for him to use this move, and completely mess Sean up.
"Well done. Now, Magmar, use Confuse Ray!" after giving the command, Sean slapped his forehead with annoyance. Now he started to lose confidence in himself. After the last battle, Growlithe had been confused by Ninetales and had missed an attack. One attack missing means game over for him at this stage of the battle. Sean could not afford this. Magmar responded to the command by shooting out a mystic, purple ray from its mouth that had left purple sparks flying. The ray had then zapped Growlithe from a distance, and after a few seconds, the ray worn away, leaving Growlithe circling itself. This was a terrible distractin that Sean was dreading.
Now it was time for a miracle. Sean needed a good plan, and fast, before Blaine would attack and win the battle. It was totally possible, and would happen with just one more attack. While Growlithe was in a state, Magmar also had trouble keeping itself together. There were purple broozes on its body, due to awful bite marks that were caused by Growlithe's sharp fangs.
"Well?" Blaine was waiting for a response from Sean, as he was getting impatiant. Then, Sean had a plan in his mind, that could win him the entire battle.
"Okay. Growlithe. Please, please, please try and get this right. Use Reversal!!" this attack was taking advantage of Growlithe's poor condition, since the less health on Growlithe the more powerful the attack would be. This was the greatest time ever to use the attack, it was all down to whether it would hit. Growlithe had listened right away, and then stumbled across the ground, trying to notice where Magmar was. Then, once Growlithe could notice something, Growlithe began to defy the confusion, by charging on its legs as fast, and as stable as it could. Then, Growlithe took one big push at Magmar, crashing it to the ground with intense force. This battle had ended, after Growlithe's powerful Reversal had knocked Magmar to the ground, causing it to faint.
"Awesome!! Growlithe, you're the best!" Sean was very proud of Growlithe, and was his totally bestest friend. Sean stroked Growlithe with great congratulations. After congratulating Growlithe, it was time for him to get his reward from Blaine.
"Truly and utterly brilliant. I am proud to call you my stepson. Here is your badge, nobody deserves it more. And also, here is your reward which I have kept for a very, very long time." Blaine gave him the badge, which was a bright red flame. Sean was excited to see what this reward was, it must be special. Then, Blaine got out an orange disc, which Sean had recognised.
"This is a Technical Machine. It contains the strong Fire-typed move, Overheat. This move is very strong, and should not be used unless needed. When used, a massive burst of flames is launched onto the battlefield, affecting the opponent strongly. However, this move will lower your Pokemon's special attacking ability by a lot, so use it very wisely. I'm proud to let you keep this and teach it to any of your Fire-type Pokemon." after Blaine's speech, Sean gladly accepted the Overheat TM and had added it to his bag.

  • Dawn broke over the world, but Sam didn't wake with it. He slept through it, tired from all the late nights and early mornings he'd been pulling lately. They were kicking in now when...

"Sam? SAM! HE'S DEAD!" a sailor yelled, obviously overreacting to Sam's sound sleeping. Sam flew straight up, yawning.

    "What? What?" Sam asked, tired.

"Oh...FALSE ALARM! HE'S FINE!" the sailor yelled, then followed with, "Sorry, Sam. I was sent to wake you up. You really slept in today...our captain is waiting for you down in the harbor. Well, we'll miss you here! You'll always be our hero!" he said.

"Thanks. You people have been really nice here...a calm before the storm for me..." Sam said, standing up.

"Sit down. You seem...distracted. What's up?" the sailor asked.

Sam sat down and thought for a second. "My family. They live here in Pallet and...well, we've never really gotten along. Long story short, I ran away to become the trainer I am now. I just hope they understand now, but I've already planned for them not accepting it. My dad...he keeps an open window in his office. That'll be my escape just in case. My mother is in there all day...along with younger brother. I just plan to go visit...see if they've accepted me...then leave. In other words...we've basically come apart as I traveled the path that I know is my destiny and they've gone with what they know. Now...I'm going back. That's all..."

"Wow...talk about family problems. You should go for it, though. You can fix things, Sam!" the sailor said.

"Thanks...well, maybe I'll see ya again some time..." Sam said, grabbing his suitcase and leaving.

Outside the room, sailors kept yelling good byes to Sam. He simply waved and walked. Right off the boat, he sighted the captain. He walked over, as the captain turned around and smiled.

"So. Headed for Viridian, I assume?" he asked.

"That's the plan. You guys gonna be off to see the tournament in a few weeks?" Sam asked.

"Wouldn't miss it for the world. Now...do us proud, kid! We're rootin' for ya!" he said.

"Got it. Well...see ya!" Sam said, running down the path to Pallet.

It was a long run, even now, but he had his pokemon now. Finally getting to town, Sam looked around. It hadn't changed a bit. Everything was where he remembered it. As much as he wanted to run right to Maple's lab, he had gotten a call the night before saying that Gyara was asleep and would be so for several more days, so he couldn't come visit. Instead, he walked down another path...to his father's mansion. Arriving, a new sight was there. Guards for the first time ever. Walking up, they quickly pointed guns at him.

"State your reason for visiting," the first guard said.

"I'm here...to see my father. If you don't believe me, call him and say Sam's arrived," Sam said, attemtping to keep his cool.

"...hold on," the guard said, pulling a 2 way radio from his pocket. Sam did his best to listen in.

"Hello?" a voice on the other end said.

"Sir. A young man calling himself Sam is here to see you. Should I allow access?" the guard asked.

"Sam?! YES! Immediatly!" the voice said. The guard put the radio back in his pocket.

"You're free to go. Don't keep him waiting," the guard said, opening the gate behind him. Sam walked in.

The main house was as beautiful as ever, with everything in place. The maid had obviously been hard at work. Walking through, he eventually found the door to his father's office. Now was the fun part. The door was inexpensive, so he wanted a grand entance...

"Umbre!" Sam whispred, throwing out a pokeball. Umbre appeared silently.

"I want you to use your Iron Tail attack to cut these doors down," Sam said, stepping back.

Umbre flew forward as its tail glew. The tail struck the hinges, knocking the doors over. The three people inside's faces grew pale as soon as Sam saw them.

"Hello...Mom...Dad...Jack," he said, a smile on his face.

    "...Sam?" his mother asked.

"The one and only," he said, a smile now readable across his face.

"You came back...you swore you never would..." his father said, standing up.

"Yeah...I was a lot different back them. I hadn't learned everything I know now...a bunch of important lessons I think I needed to know before anything. But I still stand by my decision. A journey was definately the right thing for me," he said, walking inside.

"Hm...well...not much we can do to change it anymore...so sit down. Even though you swore you'd never come back you did...even though we swore we'd never care...we're all quite curious at this point. But start with this. Who is your friend?" his father asked, pointing at Umbre.

"That's Umbre...once Vee, my first pokemon who I recieved here in Pallet. Mom...Dad...Umbre's been through it all with me. We're the best of friends, and you can tell since Eevees don't evolve into Umbreons without a VERY close bond. Umbre's the best friend I've ever had," Sam said.

His younger brother walked forward towards Umbre, who hissed at him.

"Umbre, don't do that. Jack's fine. He won't hurt you...or at least he'd better not," Sam said, looking at Jack.

"Anyway, I know you won't have made it this far with just Umbre. Tell us about your other pokemon," his father said.

"Oh please. It would be easier to show you!" Sam said, throwing out all his pokeballs. Cloyster, Pika, Pidg, Vul and Iggly all appeared out of them. His mother instantly grabbed Iggly.

"She's so cuuuute!" she screamed, hugging Iggly. For a minute, Sam was certain Iggly would start crying, but she didn't. Instead she looked happy.

"Yeah...that's baby Iggly. She's the youngest of my team but she definatley has potential. Anyway, onto Pidg, the second oldest of my team. He's been with me a long time. He's a really good fighter and has helped me out of a lot of situations, the most recent during a Tentacruel attack, which reminds me. That's where Cloyster evolved. I had just caught Shellder, but then I needed more firepower because I figured the Tentacruel might throw my pokemon off the deck. Anyway, Cloyster dealt with that. He's actually really strong with a lot of attacks," Sam said.

"Wow! Sounds tense! You sound like you've really grown up. I've heard Pikachu are exceedingly rare. How did you find this one?" his father asked.

"Pika? We're the best of friends. When I found him, we didn't exactly get along. We fought a lot and it took a while to train, but we finally got over it. We're a great team now and have been for a while. Pika's got a lot of great attacks," Sam said.

"Interesting. Now...this one?" his father asked, pointing at Vul.

"Hahahaha...yeah. That's Vul...the first pokemon I ever hatched. I'm actually considering becoming a pokemon breeder later on. I love hatching eggs and raising the pokemon in them. But yeah. Vul, despite his weak appearence is definately a force to be reckoned with. Don't mess with him. So yeah. Its been a long adventure...but now I'm back for a little while," Sam said.

"Oh...tell us! I would love to hear about my son't adventure!" his mother said.

"Well...alright. I suppose it couldn't hurt...it all started back on the day I ran off..." Sam said. Over the course of the next hour, he told every little piece of his adventure, answering questions occasionally. After he was done, it was quiet for a little while.

His dad broke the silence, saying, "Wow...Andy did all that? We just wanted him to bring you home. We didn't think he'd try to kill anyone...but you risked your life to save a friend...wow. You've really grown up. Sam...I think its time I accepted it. You're on an adventure...I have no more plans to change it. You...you belong out there, raising pokemon. Not in here, making business calls. We believe in you, kid. Make us proud. Professor Maple...tell her if she ever needs anything to come visit. Now...would you stay here tonight? We'd love to have you...even for one night. We'll be watching you in the tournament, I promise you that, but we'd love to have you here for a night. Maybe we could see some of your battling?"

"Sure, dad. I'd love that. I assume you don't mind if the courtyard is a little...messy when I'm done?" Sam asked.

"Not at all. I'd love to see a good battle!" his father said. Sam smiled and walked out of the room with his family.

The rest of the night went off without a hitch. It was perfect in every way. He showed his parents battling and everything. It was a great night when everyone went to sleep.

In his dreams, the spirit came to Sam.

"Why did you not show them how strong you are?! WHY?!" it asked.

"Why? Because I'm NOT like you! I don't want to hurt people! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!" Sam yelled.

"Huh. You might actually have some force in you. Maybe you'll get it yet...maybe not. Either way...I'll be back," the person said, dissapearing.

Sam went on the rest of the night with no such nightmare, but it still haunted him even after that. Miles away, two people were having a chat.

"He's back, you know. You'll have to face him, too. You sure you can handle it?" one said.

"Easily. I haven't seen him fight, but how good can he be? I've got 8 badges...he's got 7. No way he can beat me. No way," said the other.

"Suit yourself. You might be surprised come tomorrow, though..." said the first, leaving the place.

"Yeah right..." said the other, leaving as well.

  • Fists clenched, Warren stormed out of the gym into a small town square, glancing around desperately for Danny.

"Danny!" he yelled, "Where the hell are you?" a couple of passers-by looked at him oddly, but no-one replied. Warren forced himself to calm down. Danny wouldn't have gone back to the pokemon Centre in the middle of the battle...it hadn't been long since he'd spoken to him, though. He couldn't have got far. Warren sighed with relief as he spotted an elderly policeman in the middle of the square.

"Excuse me, officer!" he called, calling up what few manners he had as he hurried over, "Have you seen another boy leave the gym? He's a bit shorter than me, wearing a blue cap." The policeman frowned for a second, thinking, then, slowly, he nodded.

"Yeah, I think I saw your friend. He was with another boy, about your age, red-haired. Looked a bit upset about something, actually." Warren swore, much to the officer's surprise.

"Okay, well, which way were they going?" The officer looked around scratching his head and sending a shower of dandruff fluttering to earth from his nearly bald head.

"Um, I think he was going south, to Pallet." Warren swore again, groaning.

"...okay...this is going to sound crazy, but I think you should come with me," Warren explained, "The other boy you saw, he's a bit...unstable. He could hurt someone." The policeman paused for a second, then burst out laughing.

"Of course he is. I mean, this country is just full of crazy psychotic teenagers who go around killing each other." For a second, Warren looked at him, disgusted, then turned and ran down the path the officer had gestured to. He had no idea what was going on, but he had to do something.

Minutes, later, Warren stormed onto Route 1, panting as his feet crushed the grass beneath him. Ahead, he could see three figures, though they were obscured by the distance. As they entered a small thicket of trees, one paused and turned, seemingly spotting him. Shouts arose from the distance and quickly, the figure began to push one of the others. Warren put on an extra burst of speed, the people disappearing into the wood. Seconds later, he charged in too, slowing to a halt as he saw the people facing him, seemingly getting ready to fight. One the far left, he recognised Danny, his arms wrapped around his stomach and snivelling quietly. The person in the middle was equally familiar but much less welcome. Guy stood, sneering at Warren, idly tossing a Pokeball up and down. The person on the right was in fact not a person, but a Pokemon. A Beedrill. Warren frowned as he realised something - Guy had abandoned Needle in Celadon - Erica had said she would send it off to some guy in Johto. So who was this? It couldn't be...his...could it? Guy laughed coldly as he saw Warren's bemused face.

"Meet Needle, version 2. He might be a little familiar." Warren gasped. It was him. But why wasn't he moving? Why was Beedrill just standing there?

"What do you want, Guy?" he asked cautiously, unsure of what to expect. The other boy just stood there, grinning.

"I was wondering how long it would be before you showed up. I had hoped to at least set up a trap or two first, but you can't have everything, I suppose." Warren frowned as he mulled over Guy's words.

"So what, you were using Danny to draw me in? Why?" Guy rolled his eyes, then turned them to the Pokeball resting in his hand, before dropping it to the floor. With the familiar flash of light, a large, spherical Pokémon emerged. A red top, white bottom and an angry expression quickly identified it as a Voltorb. Warren stepped back a little, remembering the devastation that Voltorb had caused to Celadon's Pokémon Centre. Guy smirked.

"Ok, now, I'm sure you don't want Voltorb going off here. Might not be too healthy for your little friend, if you catch my drift." He gestured to Danny, who was still looking terrified, his eyes locked on the explosive sphere.

"Cut the crap, Guy," Warren shouted, seething with anger, "What. Do. You. Want?" Guy sighed.

"You're no fun, are you? Never mind, let's get down to it…I want your badges." Warren frowned.

"What? Why? And why…" Warren glanced at Beedrill, who was still staring blankly ahead, "Did you send that Grimer?"

"I want your badges because you don't deserve them!" Guy spat angrily, "You stole two of my Pokémon – who's to say you haven't stolen others. In fact, ay Pokémon that you caught using Mankey are mine as well!" Grabbing Danny, he pulled him over and looking very pointedly at Voltorb, grinned demonically.

"Say, Danny, I don't suppose you know which Pokémon Warren caught with Mankey, do you? And what about you, hmmm? After all, he's yours now, isn't he?" Danny shook his head, not speaking. Guy's smile dropped.

"Come on, brat, tell me! I don't want things to get messy!" Danny looked down.

"…He caught…a Bellsprout…with it…I…didn't catch anything…Bellsprout evolved…to Victreebel" Guy narrowed his eyes, but, satisfied he seemed to be telling the truth, shoved Danny to the ground, and held out his hand to Warren.

"Hand them over, your badges and your Victreebel." Warren, not even breaking eye contact with Guy, dipped his hand into his pocket, pulling out a Pokeball. Guy narrowed his eyes.

"Release it. I don't want you promising a Victreebel and giving me a Caterpie." Warren nodded, then dropped the ball, releasing the Pokémon inside.

"Poli?" Guy frowned at the small tadpole.

"Hilarious, Warren. Now, give me Victreebel!" Warren shook his head, a wry smile on his face.

"You aren't getting anything, Guy. And you can bluster and threaten all you like, because I know you aren't going to blow up anything. You might act like some criminal mastermind, but in reality…" Warren stepped forwards, shoving his face up to Guy's, "You're just some bitter kid who can't accept when he's beaten." Guy was breathing heavily, eyes darting back and forth.

"I…I mean it! Get back, now!" Warren didn't move. He just looked Guy, straight in the eye. There was hate there, and anger. But there was confusion as well and a kind of unwillingness. He didn't want to do this.

"Give it up, Guy. Just…give it up." Turning, he gestured to Danny, who quickly scrambled to his feet. The pair of them turned to leave…then, Warren stumbled as something hit him in the back. Spinning, he saw Guy standing there, fists raised. Warren growled angrily. Voltorb was lying on the ground, glancing around confusedly. Warren glanced at Danny.

"Take Beedrill and get out of here," he called, "I'll deal with Guy!" Guy stared at him.

"Don't you even want to know how I found Beedrill? In fact, I was given him. I was in Fuschia when this stupid Safari warden just went running past, clutching a Pokeball, babbling about how he had to get a Beedrill back to his friend Warren." Guy raised an eyebrow. "Of course, I, being a good Samaritan, offered to take it to you." Warren groaned. Malcolm had mentioned that Beedrill could turn up later…he'd mentioned a loss of memory, as well…was that why Beedrill was just standing there as Danny tugged on its arm? Warren snarled. He was only ever going to get Beedrill anywhere if he got its Pokeball, which Guy probably had.

"Fine…give me his Pokeball Guy." Guy winked.

"You want it, then come and get it!" With that, he stepped forwards and swung a fist at Warren's head. Ducking out of the way, he charged forwards and shouldered Guy in the gut and he stumbled back gasping. Warren grinned, but it turned to a grimace as Guy reared up, headbutting him in the face. Both of them stepped back, Warren with blood dripping from his nose and Guy clutching his stomach, winded. Warren snarled and ran forwards again, ducking under Guy's jab and grabbing his legs before dumping him onto the ground. Guy groaned, but Warren pulled back a fist, then smashed it straight into Guy's face. He cried out, then lay there, moaning, as Warren slowly picked himself up, breathing out slowly. Danny just stared, shocked. Coming to his senses, Warren bent down and dug into Guy's pockets before pulling out a Safari ball – presumably what Malcolm had caught Beedrill with. Turning around, he grinned weakly as Beedrill, still not moving, returned to its Pokeball, then glanced at Danny.

"Come on," he called, "Let's get back to Viridian." Danny nodded, still looking a bit shocked. He nodded at Guy, whose Voltorb was sitting next to him, looking at him curiously.

"Are we just going to leave him there?" Warren shrugged.

"I don't care about him any more. We've both got more important things to be thinking about. The league starts pretty soon." Danny nodded.

"I suppose. What if he doesn't give up, though?" Warren glanced back at the other teenager as they walked off.

    "Then neither will I."

  • Now that everything was done with, Sean wanted to get on with the final badge as fast as he could. Although, they couldn't be bothered to walk back out of the volcano. Before asking, Sean had started to make a decision.
Growlithe was outside of its PokeBall, looking exhausted, while pleased from winning the battle. Sean realised how much he had achieved with Growlithe so far, and remembered something. The red stone that he had won back in Celadon.
After all his times woth Growlithe as a first stage, Sean was ready to make Growlithe much more tougher. The time was certainly right, as everyone who he liked was around him. Most of all, Blaine was the one he was trying to make an impression in front of. Sean got the Fire Stone from his pocket, and called everyone over,
"You guys, come watch me do this. I want you to see this with me." to Sean, evolution was a special thing and he liked it when everyone had watched. They all did such, Natasha ran over with curiousity. When they were all beside him, Sean was ready. Now was the time.
"Growlithe, you ready to become an Arcanine?" Sean was smiling at it with courage, while nervous because he would never see it as a Growlithe ever again. Growlithe looked over to him, and at the stone, and then smiled and nodded, then barked once. Sean slowly attatched the stone to Growlithe's furry body, then it started to glow.
The last image of Growlithe was memorising for Sean. As it was for everyone else. Growlithe's body was growing, and becoming more furry. Not to mention how it looked a lot bigger than it was before. In the end of the evolution, the glowing stopped. Growlithe was now an Arcanine.
The first reacton that Sean made was a fascinated look. He could not wait to see Arcanine in action. Arcanine then felt a lot more powerful than it was when it was a Growlithe, because it was a lot moe bigger and more confident.
"Wow. I really do admire your courage, Sean. I really do hope that you and Arcanine will carry on the same way, and do very well in the league after you get that last badge. Oh, and speaking of the last badge, you'll have to go to Viridian to get this." Blaine provided the information of where he had to go next. Natasha stood by Sean as he returned Growlithe, and shook Blaine's hand, and accepting a kiss on the cheek from Jenny.
"Good luck. I really want you to win that league." she really was confident in Sean, and could not wait to see.
"Oh, and here's the quick exit. It's just a little way out since it takes a long time to get in the volcano, it would take just as long to get out." Blaine introduced them to some kind of door, that looked like a portal. Before Sean and Natasha left, Sean had one last thing to say,
"Thanks for everything. All your support in the battle and I would not be as confident without you being there for me. Guess it's time for us to go, Tash." Sean walked over to the door, to see them waving and telling them goodbye.
When they walked through the door, they ended up being at the volcano enterance. The sky was black, and the only thing to illuminate the island was the moon. They could barely see when trying to find how to get back into the island.
"Wow, we must have been in there for a long time." Natasha looked at her watch and was shocked to reveal that the time was bang on midnight. Sean gasped at the time, because he wanted to be in Viridian by morning, if not then earlier. He wanted to make it to the league within the next couple of days, and nothing would stop him.
"Let's go to the harbour. I see some kind of light, it might be a boat. I wanna be in Viridian by morning, so we should go. Are you tired?" Sean wanted to check that Natasha was alright with it. She nodded, as she didn't want to let him down. They could see some kind of moving light that lit up a part of the water, at around the harbour. They walked down the path into the city, and there it was. A big boat that stood there for a couple of minutes.
"Alright! Last call!" the driver of the boat was signalling that the boat was about to leave. Without nothing left to do, both of them hurried on over to the docks, where Sean had got his wallet out to pay for them both.
"Oh, this ride is free, sir! Feel free to ride." the driver was very polite, and let them both on free of charge.
Once they both took a couple of seats on the top area, where they could see the view, the boat began to move away from the island. They were now setting off for Pallet Town.

  • @Screw The Rules - Congratulations Warren retrieved Beedrill from Guy (I think?)

@I, Scream - Congratulations Growlithe evolved into Arcanine and can now learn Take Down, but already knows 8 moves... which move should be forgotten (reply in OOC thread)

  • As they left the harbour, Sean and Natasha were sat at a table, watching the sky. There were so many stars, each one was as bright as each other. It was hard to not be infatuated by such a view, that was very rare to spot now and again.
It was not long until the harbour was out of their sight, due to the darkness overlapping the view. They were way into the route that seperated Cinnabar Island from Pallet Town, and the time was going faster as the boat went on. It was noticable that the boat was travelling at quite a fast speed, as they could feel themselves moving quite fast.
"Ahh, this is an amazing place to be." Natasha was looking at Sean romantically, trying to get a conversation started.
"It defienetely is. I remember when I was on a boat to Pallet Town to begin my journey, but not like this. Oh look, I think I can see Pallet Town already!" the conversation came to a quick close when Sean pointed to another island that was huge. This was clearly Pallet Town, because there were lots of trees, plus the big laboratory that belonged to Professor Maple.
The boat then stopped, as before they knew it, they had arrived. Both of them had started to get off the top floor, and onto the docks, like most of the other people.
When they stepped onto Pallet Town, all the memories were coming back: going to see Rowan; getting Growlithe;setting fire to the tree; them all. There was no time for wasting around, as they were both quite tired and wanted to get to Viridian for a few hours sleep before the big Gym battle, and Natasha could barely stand up that she was so tired.
"Hmm you look tired all of a sudden. Think we should get a move on." Sean looked over to Natasha and put his hand on her shoulder before moving down the route.
They both walked together, in the dark night sky. It felt so scary being like this, especially since it involved being surrounded by tall grass. They both felt couragous, and knew that nothing was going to happen.
There was no noise at all, just the sound of their feet stepping along the grass. This was even more scary, as a shocking suprise from a wild Pokemon would be the last thing they needed.
After walking from grass patch to grass patch, they endd up in Viridian, at last. They felt like they were about to fall asleep on the spot they were that tired, so they had to go to the Pokemon Center for the night for a long rest.
There was nobody outside at all, which was quite weird, although it was kind of realistic since it was early in the morning.
The Pokemon Center was right at the front of the town, so Sean and Natasha went inside the small building, to stay over there for the night.
Once walking inside, they could see Nurse Joy with her head flat on her two crossed arms. She looked really bored and tired, and wanted to go to sleep aswell. She noticed Sean and Natasha, and had stood upright.
"Good morning. Want me to take your Pokemon for the night and heal themn up for you in the morning? There are lots of spots free in the dormantaries if you'd like." she had already done the speaking for them. They both nodded,
"Uh huh." both of them got their PokeBalls out, and Nurse Joy had took all of them off each other. When she walked into the room where she would heal them up, the couple had yawned before walking into the room where they could sleep.
Each one of them had grabbed a bed, then had started to get undressed into their pjamas. They then rested their backpacks on the dressers, where they would be safe right next to them. Finally, they were able to rest their heads onto the pillows for the night. They both wished each other sweet dreams, then had dosed off.

  • Only 6 hours later, the sun was back in the sky, and the alarm on Sean's phone had woke Sean and Natasha up. They were still tired as they had not got many hours of sleep, and earlier on they had a very long day. Although, they had still felt quite refreshed to have got some well deserved sleep after a good night.
After looking outside of the window, Sean remembered how much he wanted to go and get the badge and as fast as possible. Natasha still was looking a little messed up and tired, so sean was going to wake her up in a minute.
He got out of his bed, and then got his clothes from the dresser. Then, he put his shirt, jeans, watch and shoes on. Now, he was wide awake and ready to go. Just after grabbing his backpack, Sean nudged Natasha, in aid to get her up.
"Oi. Come on. We have to get a move on. I'll get my Pokemon and wait in the waiting room, then we can go to the Gym." Sean walked out the door, leaving Natasha to get ready to leave.
The Pokemon Center was a whole lot more crowded than the night, that was for sure. Lots of people were around, more than ever. It was as if there was some sort of event going on. Unfortunately, Sean had to wait in a long line due to having so many people in the Pokemon Center. The line had eventually cleared, and Sean was up next.
"Good morning. I guess you want your Pokemon back?" Nurse Joy was muhc more happier in the morning than she was at night, unless it was a different one. Sean nodded, and Nurse Joy went to get the PokeBalls from the room that she had left them in. While she was doing so, Natasha came out of the door, fully ready to go. When Nurse Joy went out and handed Sean's PokeBalls back, she also noticed how Natasha was with him.
"Oh, I guess you want yours back too?" Natasha nodded back in reply, and Nurse Joy went back in the room quickly, then came back out with Natasha's PokeBalls aswell. Once they both had their Pokemon back, they left the Pokemon Center for the Gym.
Ater walking outside, the both had noticed the huge change in weather to yesterday. The sun was bright and glowing, lighting up the area, unlike yesterday on the boat ride when it had rained non-stop.
They turned around to the big building that was the Gym. Sean could remember seeing that, with an old man standing outside, announcing that the Gym was not open yet. Obviously, it must be now if Blaine had knew that the last Gym Leader was there. With only one thing to do, the two of them had walked over down the footpath, and over the grass to the large Gym. Sean was the one to open the door, and then enter the Gym.
This was a very cool and casual looking Gym, as its interior was made out of bricks, and lots of rooms that led to where the Gym Leader would be. They had no idea which door would be the one that would lead them to the Gym Leader, but the clue came in when a boy came running out in disappointment, with tears from his eyes. This gave Sean and Natasha a bad impression: one that he could be a tough one to beat; or one that he could be a mean person.
Since they thought that it must have been the exit, Sean had tried the other door. Then, each door that was on the side, and then any random door. After approaching several dead ends, they both got to the Gym Leader in the end. He was wearing a red outfit, white shoes, and he had purple hair. He was filing his nails, as if he was chilling out. Upon noticing them, the Gym Leader gave a sly look and welcomed them in.
"Ahh, good morning. My name is Warren, and I'm the Gym Leader here. I like to use Ground-types, just giving you the heads up incase you want to know. And which one of you is battling me?" Warren gave a quick introduction of himself.
"That would be me. I'm Sean Taylor, and I'm here for the last badge for my case." Sean was proud of himself, yet it hadn't totally sunk in yet that he was only one badge away from the In**** Plateau.
"Very good. That means, once you're done battling me, you can head for the league, west of here at Indageau Plateau. Shall we get on with it?" Warren gave another chilling look at him.
"Of course." Sean had nothing left to wait for. Ater bowing his head, Warren too was ready to begin.

  • Warren sighed as he walked into the Pokemon Centre, followed by Danny. Dropping off his team with Nurse Joy, he turned around and released Beedrill. It still just stood there, motionless. Warren frowned, then waved a hand in front of its face. It looked at him, then turned its head back. Warren groaned. What was he meant to do now?

"Beedrill?" he called to it, "Hey, Beedrill? Don't you recognise me? It's me, Warren!" The insect tilted its head to the side and for a second, Warren thought he saw a flash of recognition. But then, it was gone. Warren sighed. Danny stood a couple of feet back, staring curiously.

"Do you reckon Nurse Joy could help?" he asked, but Warren shook his head.

"No...Malcolm said that this sort of thing only happened once or twice before…Joy won't have seen anything like this before...we need a scientist, not a doctor." Danny frowned.

"Then one of the Professors in Pallet?" Warren nodded.

"Yeah, I suppose so...I'll call Maple." Glancing away from Beedrill, he wandered over to one of the videophones in the corner, pulling Beedrill after him. A second later, he gasped as his hand brushed Beedrill's back and met something that definitely did not feel like a wing. Gulping, Warren stepped back to look at what had once been Beedrill's wings. The thin membranes had twisted and looked almost as if they had melted, crumpling in and forming small, hard knots. He reached out to touch them gently, then recoiled as they flapped weakly. Trying to ignore his writhing stomach, Warren turned back to the phone and dialled Maple's number with a dark look on his face. It rang twice, then the phone was picked up and Maple's face appeared on the screen. She smiled as she saw him.

"Ah, hello, Warren! It's nice to see some of my trainers still keeping in contact." Warren ignored the cheery attitude.

"Thanks...um, Professor, I have a bit of a favour to ask." Maple rolled her eyes.

"What a surprise. Well, what is it then?" Warren leant to the side and beckoned Beedrill down. It bent to face Professor Maple, looking at her curiously.

"Beedrill was involved in a bit of an accident professor - a Thunderbolt hit its Pokeball while it was coming out. It's lost all of its memories now and...its wings are...well, look for yourself." He gently turned Beedrill around, ignoring Maple's gasps as she saw the twisted remains of its wings. Warren turned back to the screen.

"What I want to know, Professor, is if you can help." Maple sat for a second, thinking.

"Well, I can look into the memory loss, but I don't know about the wings. I can't think of any injury similar to that and the only thing that could work is a full transplant." Warren frowned.

"I didn't know that you could do that. I would have thought that it would be pretty complicated." Maple nodded.

"Well, that's why no-one's ever attempted it before...I'm sorry to say it, Warren, but Beedrill is probably never going to fly again. Furthermore, with its wings in that sort of shape, it's very prone to infection...my professional opinion has to be a recommendation to amputate the remaining tissue." Warren leant back, sighing. Danny looked shocked as Warren glanced at him.

"Go get a room," he muttered to the younger trainer, "You could do with some sleep."

    "What about you?"

"I'll send Beedrill off first." Danny nodded, then wandered off to get a key from Nurse Joy. Warren turned back to the screen.

"Ok, so give me the facts and figures." Maple frowned, thinking.

"Well, the wing operation is first priority. I can't perform it myself, but I can call in a specialist...hopefully within about a week. I know a guy who looks after Bug types specifically; he's performed similar operations countless times. As for the mental damage...I don't know when or even if I can try and sort Beedrill out. He'll need some time to recover after the operation, but in total, we'll know within about a month, either way...look, the best thing is just if you just send Beedrill over and leave the rest to me. The longer he stays on the road with you, the greater the risk of his damaged wings picking up an infection." Warren nodded, giving Beedrill a weak smile before returning it to the Safari Ball.

"Ok, I'll send him over now." Slipping it into the transporter, Warren sighed as it quickly fizzled out.

"I've got it at this end, thanks." Maple turned back to the camera. "I guess that's it. I'll call you in about a week, as soon as the operation finishes, to let you know how everything goes."

"Okay. Thanks, Professor." Warren hung up and spun around on the chair as the screen went blank. The centre was empty and it was dark outside. Rain was lashing down against the windows. Warren realised that he was never going to get to sleep tonight.

"Come on, it'll be fun!" Danny called, skipping ahead as Warren slowly sauntered towards the trainer house. The older trainer glanced up as they entered the doors, eyeing up the various wrestling ring styled arenas. The place seemed exactly the same as when Warren had been in it so long ago, when he'd met Liv. Danny groaned as Warren just stood in the doorway, gazing around.

"Come on! Let's find some people to battle!" Warren nodded, glancing around for a free trainer. There! In the corner, there were a couple of rings where the battle seemed to be over. Warren nudged Danny and wandered over as the loser disappeared into the crowd. The winner, a tall, blond-haired boy with a smirk on his face glanced down.

"Looking for a battle?" Warren nodded, silently clambering up onto the opposite corner of the ring. The boy grinned.

"Not much of a talker, eh? Fine, let's make it a three on three. I'll start with Krabby!" Warren grinned as the small crab emerged into the middle of the ring, clacking its claws ominously.

"Fine, then let's go, Elekid!" The small, pronged Pokémon burst out into the ring, eyeing up its opponent.

"Start with Quick Attack!" At once, Elekid charged, almost too fast to see.

"Iron Defence!" Krabby grinned and shielded its face with its claws. Elekid smashed into it, but despite its superior size, simply glanced off and flew to the side. As it stumbled, Krabby jumped forwards, its claw clamping hard around Elekid's left prong. The electrical Pokémon squealed in pain thrashing madly. Krabby was flung from side to side, but it wasn't letting go. In fact, as Elekid desperately shook its head, the crab reached over and grabbed hold of the other prong with its free claw. Elekid screeched loudly as Krabby chuckled from its head. Warren narrowed his eyes.

"Thundershock!" Elekid, stumbling, began to whirl its arms and quickly fired a powerful jolt of electricity right through its prongs and into Krabby's body. The smaller Pokémon was blasted off and landed hard on the floor several feet away. Growling angrily, it struggled to its feet, still smoking gently. Warren grinned.

"Now, Elekid, use Thundershock again!" Once more, Elekid fired a jet of electricity at Krabby but this time, the crab scuttled to the side, moving surprisingly quickly for its ungainly build. Dashing forwards, it raised one of its claws. As Warren watched, a small ball of mud formed between its pincers. Krabby pulled its arm back, before flinging the projectile straight at Elekid. The electric-type stumbled back, wailing in pain from the ground attack. Warren gritted his teeth. The other trainer was just smirking.

"Finish it! Use Brick Break!" Krabby jumped, its claws raised, before bringing them down towards Elekid's head.

"Low Kick!" Elekid bent backwards, flipping out of the way just in time. Krabby's claws impacted on the floor, cracking it, but Elekid charged forwards before booting Krabby square in the face. The crustacean flew back, bounced off the ropes of the ring and smacked into the floor, unconscious. Sneering, the boy returned it to its Pokeball and looked up.

"Not bad. Your Elekid knows how to move. He won't last long against my next Pokémon, though. Go, Sandshrew!" Warren grimaced as the rodent appeared in the ring. Thundershock would be useless, which left him with just two attacks.

"Low Kick!" Elekid jumped forwards again, foot raised.

"Defence Curl!" Sandshrew rolled up, hiding its extremities within a tightly curled ball. Elekid booted it with all its power, but the shrew just flew back, bounced off the ropes and spun forward again to smack Elekid in the face. The electrical Pokémon flew back and lay groaning against the turnstile, while Sandshrew uncurled, completely unhurt.

"Return, Elekid!" Warren muttered, the pronged Pokémon turning to red light and disappearing into its Pokeball. Rummaging in his Pocket, Warren pulled out another.

    "Cubone, its time to fight!"

  • This was going to be the last every Gym battle that Sean would have to do in Kanto. It was such a sereal thing for Sean to be experiencing as he was so used to Gym battles.
Natsha took a seat on a bench in the background, and was going to cheer Sean on in the battle, as she normally would. Warren was looking really confident, like any other Gym Leader would.
"The battle will be 3 on 3. So, choose your Pokemon wisely." Warren never stopped smiling, looking very clever with himself. Sean nodded and agreed, before thinking of which Pokemon to use.
Firstly, eh wanted to give Arcanine a rest, so he wouldn't use it in this battle. Instead, he chose one of his lesser-used Pokemon, one that he had only battled with a couple of times.
"Okay. Shouldn't be a problem. Let me start off with Doduo!" Sean got the PokeBall out, then tossed it to the floor. The brown, two-headed bird came out, acting very enrgetic and ready to battle right away.
Then Warren made a deep smile and admired Sean's tactics, then he had came up with a good idea before sending out his Pokemon.
"Ahh, I see what you're doing. Using a Flying-type in a Ground-type Gym. Nice one. However, good thing I have Rhyhorn. Come on out!" Warren smiled even deeper, then swung his PokeBall out to the ground. Out came a rocky, spiky Rhyhorn that looked as if it was aggressive.
The bad thing was, that now, all of Doduo's attacks would not be as effective, since Rhyhorn is a Rock-type aswell as a Ground-type. To make things worse, Rhyhorn knew no Ground-type moves, so all of them would work. Sean, who was confident no matter what Warren meant, made his first command,
"Doduo, use Rage!" while being a move that would only do half the damage, it was a very smart move to use, because for each attack that would hit Doduo, Doduo's attack power would be boosted. To begin with, Doduo looked as if it was turning angry. Then, after turning redder and redder, Doduo closed its eyes and rammed over to Rhyhorn, then took several pecks in anger. This attack had not appeared to have hurt that much, both of them had noticed.
"Like I said. It would take a little more than that. Oh well." Warren was so full of himself, and Sean could notice that. Although, he was true. The attack had made the battle look as if nothing had happened. Sean knew what he was doing, and knew what Rage was, so he didn't care. Now, Warren was ready to start with his first move.
"Rhyhorn, show 'em your Horn Attack!" this attack was not a Rock-type attack fortunately, but it was quite a tough one. And, it would not be halved on Doduo, so it was entirely likely that this would do quite a bit of damage. After listening to Warren, Rhyhorn charged off the ground, then, upon approaching Doduo, pointed its head at Doduo's feathery body and the horn had took a stab. Fortunately, the horn didn't hurt as much as it could have done. Also, due to Rage, Doduo's attack had rose.
After the Horn Attack, Doduo became angry, obviously as an effect of Rage. Sean's plan was to only use moves that would attack, and not weaken. There was no time for it, and due to the typing, there was no point of weakening.
"And now, use Peck!" while being rather weak, Peck was a decnt move to use. Plus, atleast it did damage, just not that much. Also, it would have more attack power to it from Rage. Doduo began to race off over to Rhyhorn on its skinny legs, then, each head jabbed Rhyhorn at the same time. Now the attack looked as if it was just beginning to hurt, as it looked as if the beaks left a chip in Rhyhorn's seriously rocky body.
"So, looks like your Doduo's really are tough after all. Let's see what else they can do." Warren was very patient and was looking forward to a good battle.
"Oh, don't worry. You'll see..." Sean was also fighting his corner, and agreed that his Pokemon were full of suprises. Warren giggled.
"Well, Rhyhorn, use Scary Face!" this attack would do no damage. Instead, it would lower Doduo's speed alot. This means that it would miss its chance on attacking, and Rhyhorn would be faster to attack, giving it more turns. The move was like Leer, only it didn't lower defense, instead, speed. Rhyhorn began to pull a really strange face, then, its eyes sarted to glow to a golden colour, once again, like Leer. This had a knock-on effect on Doduo, by making it more scared to go over to Rhyhorn attack. Because of this, Doduo's speed was lowered.
Despite having its speed decreased by Rhyhorn's Scary Face, Doduo was still a very nimble Pokemon that stood up on its feet. It was one of the fasted birds out there, even one of the fastest Pokemon, so one Scary Face wouldn't change much of that. Just incase, Doduo had just the move that had a move that didn't depend on speed.
"Speed doesn't matter anyway. Doduo, show 'em Quick Attack!" it was a clever attack to use, since Doduo would attack first anyway, cancelling out Scary Face for a turn. The double-headed bird began to speed off at an icredibley high speed across the room. This attack was so fast, it literally only took 30 microseconds for Doduo to launch off, hit Rhyhorn, and run back. Also, the shocking attack made Rhyhorn look really dizzy. Its head was spinning in a shocked and dizzy motion. It was safe to say that the attack that Doduo had just used was rather critical to Rhyhorn.
"Impressive." Warren closed his eyes and smiled, and folded his arms. While looking as if he was just joking, he was being serious. He was not expecting a Flying-type to do so well against a Rock-type.
"Think it's time to use Tail Whip, Rhyhorn." this did not frighten Sean at all, as it would do no damage. However, he knew that it would lower Doduo's defense, and lower defense would mean the more damage that Rhyhorn would do. Also, combined with Scary Face, Tail Whip could follow up with another powerful attack to take effect. First, Rhyhorn began to charge, making crashing noises each tine it jumped and hit the ground. Then, Rhyhorn jumped up to Doduo, then turned around for its tail to slap both of Doduo's heads together. This had made Doduo less concentrated and less defensive.
"I could do that if I wanted to." Sean was not that bothered about the Tail Whip. Warren laughed and then proved him wrong.
"Watch this. Rhyhorn, use Stomp!" Warren sounded like a show off when speaking. While Sean would benifit from this move, once again from Rage, Stomp was Rhyhorn's strongest move and would make a big impact on Doduo. Even with the Quick Attack, Rhyhorn would probably turn the tables with just this move. Rhyhorn then got to work by charging off the ground, crashing each time its legs it the floor, then took a big jump when approaching Doduo, and its legs had stood on Doduo's legs. The pain of the attack was huge, Doduo could stand it but only barely. Now the attack was getting close to a finish, and things weren't looking good at all for Sean.
While Rhyhorn's Stomp had severed Doduo's feet, it could still stand. Infact, it could still run. Therefore, Sean was not afraid of losing the battle because there was still a way to go.
"Come on Doduo. You can stand that. Use Peck!" Sean's determination and confidence was what kept Doduo going, and it wasn't going to stop there. Doduo tapped its feet against the ground a couple of times, just to make sure it could feel its feet. Then, once it was ready, Doduo headed off to Rhyhorn at a very high speed. It was as if nothing had happened to Doduo. Once Doduo reached Rhyhorn, it simultaneously jabbed Rhyhorn once with both of its heads. This time, the Peck had left a whole crack rather than just a chip. The pain in Rhyno's body was now intense, and things kept getting complicated in the battle.
It was only the first part of the battle, and it would make no difference if Sean won this and lost the next. It was quite odd having a Gym battle in the night and then another in the morning though, and Sean still felt a rush in his body. Warren took the next move.
"Very good, but not good enough. Rhyhorn, use Horn Attack!" since the first Horn Attack went rather feeble, Warren was sure that now it was later into the battle and it was more furious, the damage would be higher. So, Rhyhorn closed its eyes in anger, and scarged across the ground faster than it did previously. And then, Rhyhorn's horn took a big jab into Doduo's small body. This one hurt quite a lot, and made Doduo wobble for a minute.
"Oh no... please don't! Not on the first part!" Sean couldn't lose at the first hurdle, he didn't want to and it would really upset him. Lcukily, Doduo stopped wobbling in the end and held itself up. Now, Doduo had had enough. The attack had seriously took an effect on Rage, and Doduo felt more powerful than ever. This was the perfect oppurtunity to snatch the battle.
"Yes!! Now, finish Rhyhorn off with Fury Attack!" this was Doduo's best attack, and if Peck could do as much damage a lone, then several more Pecks at one would do so much more. Doduo started to run off its webbed feet, then, after approaching Rhyhorn, Doduo bared both its beaks, and jabbed Rhyhorn one by one. Each jab from each head caused a chip in Rhyhorn's rocky body. After about 3 pecks from each head, Rhyhorn's body was too damaged and cracked, so it fell to the ground and fainted. Doduo stopped pecking.
"Awesome! Way to go!" Sean was proud of Doduo, and felt good that even his lesser-used Pokemon could still do well on a Pokemont hat it would ahve a disadvantage against. "Now, return." Sean returned Doduo into its PokeBall and waited for Warren to do the same. Natasha was in the background, whistling to Sean.
"Yeah! You did awesome back there! Keep it up!!" Natasha was always helpful to Sean, and made him smile. Warren bowed his head.
"Well done. That was quite an impressive battle you put up there. Let's see if now you can handle my next Pokemon. This one will only be tougher, so I hope you have a good plan in store." Warren's intelligance made himself sound really cocky. Now, Sean was thinking of what Pokemon to use next.

  • Now that Sean had claimed 1/3 of the battle, it was time for the next part. If the last battle wasn't challenging enough, then like Warren said, this one would be more harder. Sean was expecting another Ground-type, but a tougher one. While Sean was deciding on which Pokemon to send out, Warren was giving him a taster of what he would be up against.
"Let's continue. Come on out, Cubone!" Warren grabbed a PokeBall from his pocket, and threw the ball to the floor. Some strange animal that had a skull over its head had came out, carrying a white, thick bone.
Since this was a Ground-type once again, only this time it wasn't a Rock-type too, Sean could now send out another bird. Only problem is Doduo was the only bird he had, so he would have to choose another Pokemon. There was another way to make advantage of typings that Sean had figured out, so he had reached for a PokeBall in his pocket.
"Go on, Horsea!" the PokeBall was launched to the ground, and brought out Horsea. Since it was a Water-type and Cubone was a Ground-type, any Water-type move Horsea would use would be double the power. This would make a good advantage to Sean.
The battle was about to kick off. Sean was very confident in Horsea, after as much as it did last night. If it could do well against a Ninetales, then a Cubone would be no problem. Although, Cubone was a very tough and energetic Pokemon. It was full of suprises, and anything could be possible in the battle.
"Begin by using Focus Energy!" unlike the last battle where Sean kept attacking head on, Sean wanted to use strategy in this battle. This way, the battle would be much more planned and tactical for Sean. Horsea began by closing its eyes and flaping its wings higher, to stay in the air. Then, after concentrating its mind on Cubone, trying to seek out its weak spot, Horsea began to show orange sparks as a reaction. These sparks were a sign of energy, which could show that Horsea was fully focussed on Cubone. When the sparks stopped, Horsea opened its eyes. Now, any attack Horsea would make had a chance of hitting even harder.
"Two can play at that game..." Warren smiled and put a finger to his mouth sneakily.
"What d'ya mean?" Sean did not know what he had meant, as he thought that Cubone and Horsea were entirely different.
"I mean this. Cubone, use Focus Energy too!" after explaining, Warren was going to even things out by making them both having equal chances of critical attacks. Just like Horsea, Cubone had started by closing its eyes, and then held its bone inbetween both hands. Then, its mind was trying to find out where Horsea's weak spot was. Upon realising where Horsea's weak spot was, red sparks were flying, just like when Horsea was using Focus Energy. This, just like Horsea, shown that Cubone was generating energy to hit harder. Then, Cubone stopped and held its bone back in one hand. Now, any move used could be critical, with a chance.
Despite not having done any damage yet, Sean wanted Horsea to keep weakening Cubone until it would have enough advantage to hit really hard and end up winning.
"Well then, Horsea, use Smokescreen!" now, things would be a whole lot easier. This was one of Sean's normal tactics, to use Smokescreen earlier on in the battle so that the opponent would have less of a chance of hitting later on. Horsea began to gather up some ink inside its mouth, then, it shot out the ball of ink like a cannon. After travelling a long way, and then reaching Cubone, it exploded. While being only a small explosion, the clouds that came out were making Cubone blind, as it were walking in circles trying to see. It was a totally successful attack, and now things would be easier for Sean.
"Bet you don't have that." Sean folded his arms and bragged, like Warren does. As usual, Warren kept his head up and made a cheeky smile.
"No, but I have better. Cubone, use Headbutt." it was time for there to be an attack on the battlefield, as Warren had enough of copying Sean and wanted to get started and prove that even weakening won't matter. This was going to be tough, because as an effect of Smokescreen, Cubone's vision was strongly affected and it was likely for its moves to miss. While being badly sighted, Cubone could hear Warren and began to run over to Horsea. Then, as it got closer, Cubon started to move in a different direction. When Cubone thought it was near Horsea, it started to make a far jump towards a plantpot. The flowerpot had fell to pieces, and the soil had gotten all over the place.
"Well then, that's going to need cleaning up." Warren shrugged. Since Cubone's attack had failed, Sean's Smokescreen plan had worked wonders. This was enough for now, so Horsea was ready to attack.
"Well, looks like Smokescreen is working. Now, use Bubble!" Sean wanted to start attacking smoothly, then move onto the more powerful attacks later on in the battle. Bubble would still do double damage, as it was a Water-type attack. Also, there was a bigger chance of it being critical due to Focus Energy. Quickly, Horsea gathered up water in its mouth, then squirted them out. While it was at quite a slow speed, each bubble that hit Cubone felt like a stone, and the pain from the bubbles had made Cubone trip up. The bubbles stopped being squirted from Horsea's mouth, and Cubone shook off the water and stood back up.
Already, Sean had raced into the lead as Bubble made Cubone adjetated and shocked. Things were looking very good for Sean so far, but Warren thought that anything Sean could do he could do better.
"Fight back with Bone Club!" this attack was more powerful than Bubble, but unfortunately, there would be no type advantage like Horsea had. Even though it was not Cubone's most powerful attack, Cubone's bone had a really hard strike. After being distracted by its bone, Cubone responded to the command by running on over to Horsea. This time, Cubone could see better but not perfect, so it was on the right lines. The attack ended when Cubone was close enough to bare its bone, and then whack Horsea hard. As a result of Focus Energy, Cubone had hit Horsea's weak spot, causing more damage than normal. After a moment of shock, Horsea had got back up in no time. Sean was ready to make a strong comeback by using an even better Water-type move.
"Horsea, use Water Gun!" this was once again, hence the name, a Water-type move. This time, it was more powerful than Bubble, and if the result to Bubble was good, then the result of Water Gun would be even better. The attack begun by Horsea gathering water in its small jaws. When there was a huge volume of water in its mouth, Horsea began to shoot out a blast of water. The water quickly reached Cubone, who was standing still. The Water Gun made it jump, and fall onto its back in shock. Cubone got back up and shook everywhere, to get the water off its body. This attack had made Cubone mad, and it was dying to attack back.
"Better get ready Sean, I'm ready to use Cubone's secret weapon." Warren was very secretive, and his face had expressed it.
"Bring it!" Sean was not afraid to see anything, as he knew that nothing could be so good enough to knock Horsea out at this moment, when he was winning.
"Okay, get ready. Cubone, show 'em your Bonemerang!" this obviously sounded to Sean that it would be another attack to do with Cubone's bone, he was right. Since it was rather angry, Cubone started the attack immediately. First, byt holding the bone to one side, then throwing it sideways, as if it were a boomerang, hence the name Bonemerang. The bone was spinning though the air looking like a sharp razor. The bone had then hit Horsea, knocking it off its wings that it hurt so much. Horsea was spinning for a moment, before levitating back above the ground. Then, out of shock, the bone had came spinning back to Horsea a second time, once again knocking Horsea to the floor. The bone came spinning back into Cubone's hand. It took a few seconds for Horsea to get back up, but once it did, it had a small brooze on its body, since the bone had hit that hard.
"Wow, that was good. But, not good enough. About time I shown you my secret weapon, now, since you shown me yours. Horsea, use Bubblebeam and make it a good one!" since Cubone had used its strongest move, Sean thought it was time for Horsea to do the same. Once Horsea had gathered up enough water in its mouth, it tried to aim its mouth in the right place, so the attack would hurt even more. When it got a good aim, Horsea shot out bubbles once again. This time, there was more bubbles coming out of Horsea's mouth, and at a much faster speed. Cubone, who was trying to entertain itself by throwing the bone in the air a few times and catching it, got immediately struck by the blast of bubbles. While trying to shake them off, some bubbles had ended up hitting Cubone in the weak spot; its skull. The bubbles that got into its skull had made it jump and run in circles, only to keep getting hit by more bubbles. In the end, Cubone stopped and calmed down, panting for breath in the end. It was safe to say that Cubone could not take much more.
"Okay - I've had enough. Use Headbutt!" this attack would hurt Horsea, but not like Bone Club or Bonemerang. This attack could once again change everything, if it was done properly. Cubone began by running off to Horsea, and pointing its head forwards. Finally, the skull had ended up pushing Horsea to a wall. This attack had hurt, but not enough to save Warren from losing. Horsea got back up, with its brooze shining red.
"Well, looks like you'll have better luck on the next battle, eh? Now then Horsea, finish Cubone off with Water Gun!" Sean's confidence had finally brought Horsea through the battle and he felt that this was the time that it would win. Right away, Horsea started to generate water into its mouth, and then, after a pause, Horsea closed it eyes and let out the biggest blow of water it had ever unleashed. This big cannon of water had reached Cubone straight away, and had pushed Cubone to the brick wall of the Gym. The intense blow had been too much force for Cubone, and it had fell to the ground with crossed eyes. It was no longer able to battle.
"Yes!!" Sean made a pleased gesture with his arm and fist, sounding really pleased with himself.
"Well done, Horsea. You never fail. Now, return." he got Horsea's PokeBall out and had pushed the button to bring Horsea back inside.
"I guess you did your best, Cubone. You too, return." Warren let his head down, and returned Cubone into the PokeBall. Now that two thirds of the Gym battle had already been was, it was time for Sean to do the final part, of the final battle. This was it.

  • "Sandshrew, use Iron Tail!" Immediately, the rodent jumped forward, spinning head over heels to smash its hardened tail onto Cubone's skull. Cubone staggered back, bu caught itself and swung out with its club. Sandshrew ducked, then swiped upwards, scratching at Cubone's torso. Thin red lines appeared on its chest and Cubone squealed angrily.

"Cubone, calm down!" Warren shouted. The rodent was looking angry, but not in a good way. It had to concentrate to win and blind rage wouldn't help.

"Poison Jab!" Sandshrew charged again, drawing back its arm, which was beginning to glow purple.

"Alright, Cubone, dodge and Bone Club!" Cubone nodded briefly, then jumped into the air a split second before Poison Jab connected. Landing on the other side of Sandshrew, it swung and caught the rodent in the face as it spun around. Now Sandshrew was nursing a bruised jaw to match Cubone's scratches.

"Headbutt!" The two trainers gave this next order together and the rodents charged, heads clashing violently in the middle. For a second, they struggled against each other, Cubone's skull helmet fighting Sandshrew's scaly armour. Then, with one last push, Cubone threw back Sandshrew, which flipped to its feet, shaking its head and looking dazed.

"Finish it! Cubone, use Bone Club!"

"We're not done yet! Rollout!" As Cubone charged, Sandshrew curled up and rolled forwards at a tremendous speed. Cubone barely missed it, but was forced to take the next blow, holding up its club defiantly. Sandshrew spun faster and Cubone's feet slid back a little, but neither pokemon was getting anywhere.

"Metal Claw!" Sandshrew stopped spinning and jumped back, before slashing at Cubone with razor sharp claws. Cubone threw up its club just in time, but the metallic attack cut into the bone, leaving three thin scratch marks on the weapon to match those on Cubone. Sandshrew carried on with the attack, but its opponent spun, deflecting the attack and the claws bit deep into the floor. The shrew pulled, but it was stuck fast.

"Bone Club again!" Sandshrew gave one last tug, but to no avail. Cubone smacked the defenceless enemy hard enough to throw it into the air, before falling and smacking hard onto the ground. Warren grinned as his opponent returned the defeated Sandshrew to its Pokeball.

"Fine...but you can't beat my last Pokemon. Let's go, Cacnea!" Warren grimaced as the small cactus appeared in the ring. Not only was it a Grass type, but Cubone's attacks all relied on getting up close and physical - not something that he wanted to try with those spikes.

"Seed Bomb!" Cacnea, grinning, leapt high into the air, small, hard seed firing down from its crown.

"Bone Club!" Cubone swung wildly, smacking most of the seed far away. As Cacnea fired one last projectile, Cubone took careful aim, then swung its club like a baseball bat and sent the seed flying straight into Cacnea's face. The cactus flew back, but landed on its feet, shouting angrily. The boy gave an ugly grimace.

"Headbutt, Cubone!" The rodent lowered its head, then scampered forwards on all fours. Cacnea grinned.

"Counter!" Cacnea held out its arms as Cubone charged, grabbing the rapidly approaching skull and using the momentum to throw Cubone flying into the ropes.

"Mega Kick!" As Cubone bounced off the ropes, screaming wildly, Cacnea ran, jumped and dropkicked it right in the head. Cubone flew into the turnstile and flopped pitifully onto the floor. Warren grimaced, while his opponent grinned.

"Just one more fight," he drawled, "And then it's all over..."
