The Indigo Plateau Conference: Story

Over 50 years ago there was a brilliant man by the name of Charles Goodshow. All those years ago he created what is today known worldwide as the Official Pokémon League Competition. Trainers from around the world train their pokémon, and gather at the Indigo Plateau in order to pit their wits against each other; all with the goal of winning the coveted title of Pokémon Master. Thousands have taken up the challenge over the years, but only a select few have prevailed. The tournament is held once every year, and the time for the competition to begin has come once more. Everyone wants to be able to call themselves THE Pokémon Master. And you are one of them.

Chapter 6: Finishing Buisness

The conversation had gone something like this.

"Jasper! Is that you? We haven't talked in a while, what's up?"

"Hi Professor Maple, um, I won my last badge."

"Good, good! On to the league now, right?'

"Well, about that, it starts today, and I'm not registered. I have to be there by an hour, so I have to get there quick."

"Oh, no problem, let me send you something." Professor Maple had placed a small chain in the item-transporter, and it turned up on Jasper's end. "That is a Pokecharm, it'll repel any wild Pokemon!"

It was a necklace, with a silver, rusting chain holding a small circle on it. Jasper wrapped it around his neck. "Thanks. And, there's another thing. It's Ditto, he's, well...strange. He transformed into a Pokemon I'd never seen before. A Bulbasaur. And there was definitely not a Bulbasaur around, I'm sure of it."

The color ran out of Professor Maple's face. "Who gave you that Dit-" She stopped herself, and then said, "I mean, that is a rather odd ability. I have to go. Good luck!" She hung up.

Jasper, confused, had ran out of the Pokemon Center, and started heading up the route to the Pokemon League. He wore the charm, and Maple was right, no Pokemon confronted him along the rocky path.

Now, Jasper looked up at the tower overhead and smiled. He had done it, reached this far. Now all that was left was registering and waiting, waiting for the final moments of his journey to come. As he walked towards the Pokemon League, however, he was stopped. "Hold on! Yeah, you! Have you seen a Pikachu anywhere around here?" A nearby boy asked, running up to Jasper. Jasper didn't answer, and he asked again.

"Are you alright? You seem...not at ease. Is something bothering you? I mean other than me?"

"A..a Pikachu? Ah, no, no Pikachu, I just, er, got here. And, no, nothing's bothering me, not at all. Nothing but the fact I have five freaking minutes to sign up for the tournament, anyway." Jasper answered, glaring at the kid.

"You're giving me a glare that says I should go away...oh! Pika!" The boy said as a Pikachu charged through a crowd and hopped on his shoulder.

"This is my Pikachu. Oh...I haven't introduced myself. My name's...actually, why don't you go sign in first?" Sam asked.

"Eh...yeah." Jasper said, walking forward into the huge tower. Inside was the most magnificent place Jasper had ever seen. There was a comfortable lobby, with squashy armchairs and sofas, and it was packed with tough people, and tough Pokemon too. There were three counters, an average Pokemon Mart one on the right, a Pokemon Center counter on the left, and in the middle was the registration counter. Jasper walked up to one of the empty spaces, and was greeted by an old man in a grey suit.

"Hello! Jasper is it? Professor Maple said you'd be coming!" Jasper nodded, and handed over his trainer card. "One second!" The man nearly yelled. Jasper held back a laugh. A few minutes later, the man returned. "All signed up!" He boomed.

"Thank you." Jasper said, and he turned around and back outside, Ditto transforming back into himself instead of a cap on Jasper's head. "So what's the deal?" He said to the boy.

"Okay. My name's Sam...and this is Pika as you well know. Anyway, you're a Maple trainer I hope...I'd destroy you now if you were Oak...anyway, I see you have a Ditto. Interesting little Pokemon...feels different from a normal Pokemon. Tight bond, obviously...but you don't understand its potential. If you really want to know it...I would suggest you battle me...its the only way for you to get the ability it has..." Sam said. Pika looked ready to go.

"I'm Jasper..." Jasper said, stunned by Sam's hastiness. "And, well I'm not sure I'm up for a battle right now. I have to do some last minute things, you know? Sorry." Jasper turned and started walking towards the door of the Pokemon League.

"Say what you will. I suggest you battle me sometime before this tournament ends. Just come find me. You look strong, but let me tell you, I doubt you'd last long against me. While you've seen one of my Pokemon, I can sense the ability of one of yours and I've seen it. At least allow me to join you for a little while if its fine by you. I'm honestly a little bored. No one around who I find worth the time of day. You're the first...interesting person I've met since arriving. I was planning to go check on the competition. Care to join me?" Sam asked.

Jasper stared at the ground, wondering what this guy could possibly mean. Finally, he spoke."Thanks, but no thanks. I think I'm going to go in and...prepare." He replied.

"I figured you'd say that. I'm out of here, then. Enjoy your league experience, though if you need to find me, I'll be in room 212. Good luck and hope you don't get paired against me..." Sam said quietly, leaving the scene.

After the boy was gone, Jasper released all his Pokemon from their balls. "Okay you guys, it's time for a couple of changes." He laid down his two evolution stones, a Fire Stone and a Moon Stone. "I think it's obvious who takes this." He said, pointing to the Fire Stone, and nodding at Pix. Pix stepped forward, looking a bit nervous, and then placed a paw on the stone. There was a great, blinding white light, and the stone and Pix were gone. Instead, stood an elegant Ninetails, smiling and looking down at itself. Jasper smiled, and pointed to the Moon Stone. "However, all four of you, excluding Ditto, evolve with this." Nidorino, Nidorina, Clefairy, and Jigglypuff nodded. 'And after recent events, or, my last two gym battles, I have decided upon which one of you will get it. Nidos, you guys are out. Both of you played brilliantly on the gym floor and you've just evolved. Clefairy, you just proved how strong you are without evolution in our last match, yesterday. So, I believe I am going with Jigglypuff." he nodded at Jigglypff, and she squealed, stepping up and placing her tiny, pink hand on the stone. Barely anything had changed, except or Jigglypuff streching out, and her ears growing.

"Wiggly!" The new Pokemon said, delighted. His Pokedex beeped once.

"Sweet! Now for some last minute moves. He pulled two discs out from his bag, and placed one on Wigglytuff, and placed them both on Wigglytuff. "These two TM's activate Ice Beam, and Mega Punch, okay Wigglytuff?" Wigglytuff nodded, and the discs faded into her fluffly skin. "Now that that's over, let's go back into the lobby!" His Pokemon cheered.

Jasper sat on the couch in the lobby of the Pokemon League, talking to his Pokemon one last time before the big tournament. Nidorina, Nidorino, Ninetails, Clefairy, Wigglytuff, and Ditto sat in front of him.

"Okay guys, you remember everything we've been through on our trip, our laughs, and our battles, and strategies. When we thought there was no way out. We made it through." He smiled and looked into their determined faces, and knew that they were just about ready for anything. "This is our last leg of the race. The race we're gonna win." Suddenly, he saw Warren walking back from the front desk. Jasper got up and walked towards him. Warren glanced up as he did.

"Hey, Jasper, wasn't it? Did you deal with that Koffing okay?"

"Yeah'" Jasper said, remembering that he missed two days of his journey because of it. "I did, no help from you." Warren sighed.

"Right, I'm sorry for dealing with all the Grimer who would have probably killed you if I hadn't been there to help you get out of a situation that had nothing to do with me." Jasper paused for a second, and then said what he had really been wanting to say all along.

"Thank you, Warren. A lot. You...well, you saved me." Warren blanched.

"Yeah...well...y'know...um...er..." Warren looked at his feet, scratching his head and looking a little embarrassed. Jasper laughed.

"I guess I'm good at that," he said, holding out his hand. "Good luck." Warren shook the offered hand, not really looking at Jasper.

"Do you know anything about the other competitors? Who to look out for, that sort of thing?"

"Well, I just met a guy outside. He had a pretty tough-looking Pikachu with him. He called it 'Pika'. That's all I really know. Oh, and, guess what?" Jasper replied. Warren frowned.

"Really? I think I know the guy...but it's not exactly an uncommon nickname, right? Anyway, what were you saying?"

"His name was Sam," Jasper said. "And that Koffing belonged to a little kid. Well, what happened was I beat that kid, after, er, trying to catch the Koffing, and he punched me square in the face..." Warren sniggered.

"Sounds fun. You should make it into a sport or something."

"Make wha-?" Before Jasper could finish, a loud speaker burst with words.

"ALL COMPETITOR'S PLEASE GET READY FOR BATTLE, IT WILL BEGIN IN FIVE MINUTES!" The voice boomed.

Good luck." Jasper said. He winked and tossed Warren a small disc, then turned and walked away. He had given Warren his last TM, he wouldn't of used it anyway. Jasper sighed, hoping that he and Warren were even, and returning his Pokemon to their Pokeballs. The league was about to start. In less than two minutes, Jasper would be fighting with his Pokemon, side by side, for the last time in his Kanto journey.

@King! - Yay everyones here! Okay some final things to mop up...

Congratulations Vulpix evolved into Ninetales
Congratulations Jigglypuff evolved into Wigglytuff

Congratulations Ninetales learned Safeguard
Congratulations Wigglytuff learned Ice Beam and Mega Punch

and it begins:

"ALL COMPETITORS PLEASE ASSEMBLE IN THE MAIN HALL! THE DRAW FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THIS YEARS POKEMON LEAGUE TOURNAMENT WILL BEGIN IN ONE MINUTE! I REPEAT THE FIRST ROUND DRAW WILL BEGIN IN ONE MINUTE!"

Standing on a balcony overlooking the main hall, Maple surveyed the room below and smiled to herself. In her first year assisting young pokemon trainers, four of her five kids had been sucessful in reaching the pokemon league. After a short search she managed to sight all four of them and let out a sigh of relief that they had all reached the Indigo Plateau safely. It was a shame her fifth trainer had been unsucessful, but you couldn't have everything in life. Looking across the balcony Maple sighted Professor Oak... she knew all five of his trainers had sucessfully reached the league this year... but was determined that onme of her young trainers would be sucessful. Then a large announcement cut across her trail of thought.

"THE DRAW FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THIS YEARS POKEMON LEAGUE IS NOW COMPLETE! PLEASE TURN YOUR ATTENTION TOWARDS THE BIG SCREEN! FIRST ON THE SCREEN WILL BE THE FIRST ROUND MATCHES ON THE GRASS FIELD!"

There was suddenly a lot of noise coming from the main hall below, and Maple could feel the excitement building up inside her. She quickly scanned the matches being shown on the big screen, and one stood out to her:

Sam (Pallet Town) vs Alice (Viridian City)

So Sam would be on the grass field first... then a flurry of thoughts flew through Maples head. Which pokemon would he start with? What tactics would he use? What pokemon would Alice use? ... However, before she could answer any of these questions an announcement cut across her thoughts...

"AND NOW... THE FIRST ROUND MATCHES ON THE ROCK FIELD!"

Once again there was a loud chatter from below, and once again Maple picked out one match on the screen:

Warren (Pallet Town) vs Naill (Celadon City)

Before Maple could work out if this was a good draw for Warren, her thoughts were once again interrupted by an announcement over the speaker...

"AND NOW THE DRAW ON THE WATER FIELD!"

Once again Maple picked one match off the screen:

Jasper (Pallet Town) vs Tony (Pewter City)

Maple looked down at the hall below, and saw that amost everyone had stayed to the end of the draw. She smiled and nodded approvingly...

"AND NOW... LAST, BUT BY NO MEANS LEAST, THE DRAW FOR THE ICE FIELD!"

Maple already knew Sean would be on this field first, but still scanned the screen as normal.

Sean (Cinnabaar Island) vs Nathan (Lavender Town)

"LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, THE DRAW FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THIS YEARS POKEMON LEAGUE IS NOW COMPLETE! THANKYOU FOR YOU PATIENCE AND GOOD LUCK!"

And here he was, the first battle out of the most important ones that will be remembered. Sean was surrounded by so many crowds of people on the sides of the stadium, one of them being Natasha who was there to cheer Sean on. Her and Vulpix were outside, raising her hands in support. The stage was very cold, and clippy. There was lots of icicles, even ponds of water that were freezing.
The opponent, Nathan looked at Sean. He looked like quite a snob, as he had round, black glasses and was quite short. It was obvious to Sean that Nathan was younger than him, but hopefully not like Diane. He did look like he meant business.
"Well? Are you going to send out your Pokemon or what?" he sure did sound impatient and arrogant, but Sean was used to it. The decision came to his head, and he got a PokeBall out of his pocket, ready to send out.
"Yeah, actually, and watch out. I'm not easy. Show 'em, Exeggcute!" believe it or not, Sean had never even used Exeggcute in a battle. This would be a first timer, but Sean knew all of its attacks and what it was capable of. Anyway, Sean was sure, and launched Exeggcute. When it came out, it started to shape all six of the eggs together, then scowled. Certainly, it looked competetive, and Nathan had chose his Pokemon to counter it.
"Good. Now, come on out, Slowpoke!" Nathan did the same, by tossing the PokeBall to the ground. Both Pokemon were now out, and Nathan folded his arms with impatience, more ready than ever to begin.
There was no startegy involved at all here, since Exeggcute was Grass and Slowpoke was Water, which was quite weird as they both were also Psychic-type too. This meant that any Psychic type moves used would be useless. The battle was ready to begin, by Nathan starting off since he was too impatient to wait any longer. He turned his head.
"Fine then, if you're not gunna start then I will. Slowpoke, begin with Curse." Nathan was already getting on Sean's nerves. Slowpoke started to glow red, and then rested on the floor. As the glowing went on, it looked like there was energy coming from its body. When the glowing stopped, the move had finished. All that happened, was Slowpoke became slightly more powerful, offensively and defensively. Although, at the same time, slowing itself down.
"Looks like I may have my word cut out for me already." Sean laughed.
"Oh, don't think that's all I can do. You will see what Curse was all about later. I'm stronger than I look, you know." Nathan assured him.
"Until then, Exeggcute, use Reflect!" just to be on the safe side, Sean wanted to set up a good strategy to assure him a victory on the first of his league battles. Exeggcute began to shine a crystal colour, which had then started to turn into what looked like a window made from chrome. This barrier had shone across Exeggcute, shielding it from strong attacks. These attacks would not be stopped, just really weakened due to protection. This was a clever thing to do since Slowpoke did have a few tricks up its sleeve.
Now they both had buffed up their Pokemon slightly, there was about to be some real attacks being done. Nathan started off with attacking.
"This aint much fun, is it? Slowpoke start attacking with Water Gun!" little did Nathan know that this would not be very effective due to Exeggcute being a Grass-type. Sean knew about this but didn't bother mentioning, since it would be going against himself. Either way, Slowpoke started to open up its big mouth, showing its tounge and throat, then shot out a blast of water. It didn't take long for this water to hit one of Exeggcute eggs, but it didn't feel much. The attack was poor and unsuccessful this time around.
"Maybe you should have thought about types?" Sean was going some advice. Nathan turned annoyed.
"Not my fault! I didn't know that!" now Sean was noticing that he was quite a snob and a brat. He laughed.
"Hahahaha. That's quite funny really. Now then Exeggcute, use Leech Seed!" despite Slowpoke already attacking, Sean wanted Exeggcute to set up a few more advantages so he could get a secure victory. Exeggcute gathered all of its eggs together, and had then shot out a few seeds from its mouth towards Slowpoke. These seeds had been stuck to its body, and were going to take health away from it each turn and give it to Exeggcute. Nathan was unaware once again.
"Oh yeah, well..." Nathan stumbled upon himself, trying to think of a comeback move. Sean thought this was a joke, he wondered how someone like him could have even made it near the league.
"Oh! I got it! Slowpoke, use Confusion!" once again, Nathan was going to attack. Although, this attack was also not going to be as effective since Exeggcute was Grass and Psychic-typed. Slowpoke started to close its eyes and concentrate hard on Exeggcute, while it was flat on the ground. When it was most concentrated, it began to glow a magenta colour, then there was a wave of Psychic power being transferred to Exeggcute. As this wave hit Exeggcute, its eggs had fallen apart for a second, but they immediately gathered back together within a second.
Sean shook his head in disappointment since he was expecting a tricky battle, when it was really going to be easy. Even with Exeggcute. He was ready to attack.
"Try and think before you attack, Nathan. Exeggcute, use Barrage!" this was Exeggcute's only attack, so he was going to have to get used to using it. Before Exeggcute began, the Leech Seed which were stuck on Slowpoke had glown green, shopwing that there was health being sucked out of it. Exeggcute also glown, showing that the health was being absorbed. Slowpoke felt a tingly feeling.
Back to the attack and the Exeggcute egg at the front had opened its mouth, then shooting out several eggs that looked like cannon balls. The first egg hit Slowpoke hard, and it fell off its four feet. The second egg hit Slowpoke's body, which had felt really hard and left a mark. The third and final egg shot out and hit Slowpoke right on the forehead, making it feel tired. It closed its eyes, but it wasn't knocked out, just overreacting to the attack. Nathan had it, and attacked back immediately with a strong attitude.
"Okay that's it! Slowpoke, use Tackle!" he was beginning to shout, which showed that he was angry and wanted to get him back. While this attack would be the first one to be effective, it was the first physical attack, and Reflect would lower its damage significantly. Slowpoke got up, feeling somewhat damaged from Barrage, and then ran over to Exeggcute, although it wasn't exactly running since its speed was quite slow, hence the name 'Slow'poke. Finally, Slowpoke jumped onto a few of Exeggcute's eggs, hitting the shells hard, and knocking them apart. Once again, they got back together quickly, and the attack wasn't as bad as it could've been, thanks to Reflect.
"Got anything else?" Sean questioned Nathan, wondering if he was clever and did have a plan. He didn't reply, so he took it as a no.
The crowd were cheering them on, wanting to see an actual battle. Sean could spot Natasha, and saw her waving. He was now ready to make another attack. The Leech Seed on Slowpoke had once again sucked health out, making Slowpoke shiver, and Exeggcute feel refreshed. The battle was really on Sean's side, but it could all change later.
"I thought not. Use Barrage again!" there was a chance that this time it could shoot out more than last time, but a chance it could also shoot less. The egg at the front had once again shot out a first ball; then a second; then a third, each one hitting Slowpoke in weak places, such as the place where had been hit last time and had left a brooze. There was a fourth egg being shot out, then a fifth. There could now be no more shot out at this moment, but the last egg to hit Slowpoke made its eyes open in pain. There was a big problem for Nathan now, a problem that he couldn't see. He really needed to get back at Sean now or else he would lose the battle, and losing one battle would mean if he lost the other two, he would lose the battle and the league with it.
"Man this is annoying! Use Tackle again!" it would be the only attack that Slowpoke could use that would be effective, but Reflect was still there so the attack's power would not be as good as it could be. Slowpoke got up again, andwalked quickly to Exeggcute since it was too slow and lazy to run. Then, Slowpoke jumped onto Exeggcute and made a crash. Once again, it didn't feel that painful since Reflect had shielded Exeggcute.
However, the Reflect had began to fade, since it was a few turns since used. Once it had gone, the Leech Seed had sucked some of Slowpoke's health away once again, and refreshed Exeggcute as if nothing had happened. All eggs made a smug grin.
"Oh come on!!" Nathan couldn't stand losing, but nobody could. Although, he was going a little over the top. Sean wasn't going to attack on this turn.
"Just relax, man. Use Reflect, Exeggcute!" he wanted to get Reflect back so that if Slowpoke were to use Tackle again and it would be a hard-hiiter, it would not have such an impact. Like earlier on, Exeggcute glown a white colour, which had then turned into a square which was big enough to cover Exeggcute. This window had stopped glowing, and had shone over Exeggcute. Now, Exeggcute was still protected and safe from physical attacks.
"Now, Nathan, what's it gunna be?" Sean turned to Nathan, then looked at Slowpoke who was still reeling from the previous Barrage. It was on the floor, looking as if it were gasping for breath, plus the purple broozes had been growing. Nathan had a bright idea that wasn't an attack, but could be enough to turn things around.
"I'll show you. Slowpoke, use Yawn!" this move was a twisted one. It had a totally secured accuracy so it would hit no matter what, but it would do nothing this turn. However, at the end of Exeggcute's next attack, it would fall asleep. This would give Nathan the advantage to come back with a strong attack. Slowpoke didn't have to get up, instead, it stayed on the floor, before closing its eyes and opening its mouth wide to then make a strong yawn which had made Exeggcute drowsy. Sean didn't knwo what Yawn did, so he just pretended like he knew.
This could now be it, Sean had only one thing to do and that was to attack. Before making a command, Slowpoke had once again got some health absorbed into Exeggcute due to Leech Seed. Exeggcute was totally health, and felt really strong now. Sean was ready.
"Exeggcute use Barrage one more time!" he was confident that if there was enough eggs shot out, then Slowpoke would be taken out, and he would be at a strong advantage to Nathan. Exeggcute's front egg had opened its small mouth, and then shot out a first egg that was bigger than normal, which had hit Slowpoke right on the biggest brooze. It made one deep noise showing that it couldn't hold much more. Then, another egg was shot out at a shocking spped which had hit Slowpoke by suprise, and had knocked Slowpoke out with a sweeping force. The first part of the battle, and Sean had won.
"Strike one!" Sean made a very happy gesture with his arms, Natasha was in the crowd, over the moon with happiness.
"Go Sean!!" she cheered. Nathan got Slowpoke's PokeBall out, and sulked for a couple of seconds before returning it.
"That was brilliant, Ex-" before he could finish congratulating Exeggcute, each egg fell asleep one by one due to the effects of Yawn. Sean laughed to himself, then got its PokeBall out and pushed the button to return it back inside. Once part down, two to go, and Sean's confidence rose.

Now that the first part of the battle was over, it was time for the next. There was a buzz of excitement for Sean, who was a couple of battles away from moving on to being a step closer to becoming the champion.
Sean looked across the field, which was mainly slippy ice and an arctic scene. The ice had made him feel cold, but it had not made him feel weaker. If anything, stronger. Sean also looked at how many people were cheering at his last victory, especially Natasha.
Nathan wanted to get on with it, as normal. He used his next Pokemon that he was confident wouldn't fail.
"You're not gunna win this one! I can feel it! Show 'em, Shellder!" once again, this was a Water-type. He released the Pokemon from the PokeBall; the Pokemon which looked very strange. Its shell was dark blue, and there was nothing inside except two white eyes that looked very bright, and a long pink tongue.
There were no other Pokemon except Exeggcute that could deal with Water-types well, so Sean decided to keep making his lower levelled Pokemon more expecrienced. He was ready.
"We'll see about that. Doduo, you show them!" while it was pretty much regulay typing, they were on an ice field which could be a problem to Doduo as a Flying-type, but Sean was optimistic. Doduo was brought out onto the field, both heads bobbing up and down. Both Pokemon were out and the battle was ready to be started, Nathan was sure that this battle would be on his side. Only time could tell. He made his first move.
"Now, let's begin with the second part. Shellder, use Leer!" them first move and this time Nathan was going to set up an advantage. Shellder started to look at Doduo's four eyes, two on each head. Then, when Doduo was looking, Shellder's eyes began to light up, in a golden colour. While the colour was dazzling, the look in Shellder's eyes was adjetating Doduo, making it feel less defensive. Shellder's eyes stopped glowing.
"That all? This is going to be so easy I sware." Sean shook his head with his arms closed, with a lack of caring. Now it was his turn.
"You really are easy. Use Rage!" while being an attack, this was also an attack that would build up its attack power each turn if it were to be hit by an attack. Doduo began to run across the icy floor, which was rather annoying since the ice made it slip a little. Both Doduo's heads began to turn red, as an effect of anger. Then, Doduo approached Shellder and attacked its purple shell lightly. While not doing much damage, it was a clever move to use as the more attacks Shellder would use now would make Doduo much more powerful.
"So that's your game. I'm impressed." Nathan smiled, since he underestimated Sean.
"Oh you're going to be more than impressed later on." Sean accepted the compliment, while making himself sound confident. Nathan chose his next move.
"Hmm. Shellder, use Tackle!" now he was going to attack, despite Doduo's Rage. This attack was not Shellder's most powerful, but still, Nathan was going to keep his fingers crossed that the attack would be a good one. Shellder didn't have any legs, so rather than running up to Doduo, it bounced across the ice. It was a little funny to watch. Quickly, Shellder took one big jump onto Doduo, pushing it to the ice. As a shock of the cold, Doduo got back up onto its webbed feet right away, feeling okay.
The attack did do some damage and had balanced the attack back out, but Doduo was enraged, so Doduo's attack would now be increased. Now, Sean was going to get Doduo to attack back, and show no mercy.
"Not bad. Doduo, fight back with Peck!" now, Sean could take advantage of the attack power built up from Rage, plus Peck was quie a strong move. Doduo started to run across the ice once again, looking as if it were skating. Then, when Doduo caught up to Shellder, both beaks jabbed into its sturdy shell once. The spots that Doduo had pecked in looked as if they were forming into ships in Shellder's shell, showing that the attack was really having an effect.
"Now that's what I'm talking about!" Nathan was starting to be impressed by Sean's attacking skills, but he was forgetting that he too was a challenger expecting a battle, so he also wanted to win. Therefore, he had thought fast with a way to combat Doduo's strength. There was one attack he could use, but it was going to be special and was going to give Sean a suprise, but he was going to leave that until later. As for now, Nathan had another move to use. One that Sean disliked intensely.
"Oh! I got it! Shellder, use Supersonic!" Sean's smile was wiped away from his face and he gasped. Confusion in one of the most important battles in his life would not do at all. Either way, Shellder started to concentrate on Doduo, before then closing its two eyes and emitting a very screechy noise that made Sean cringe. Luckily, Doduo didn't get this wave of sound and had avoided the Supersonic wave. Therefore, the attack had certainly not been successful. Sean was relieved, Nathan was annoyed. The crowd made a big cheer, the excitement had raised. It was clear that they prefered Sean.
"Damn! You must be joking!" Nathan stressed himself, while Sean was totally happy with himself and Doduo. Things were looking up to him, and the battle was going his way. Sean thought up of Doduo's next attack.
"Unlucky, dude. Use Quick Attack, Doduo!" Sean liked the way the battle was going because while he was in the lead, he also liked to see that Nathan was trying to put up a fight. Once again, he wanted Doduo to keep attacking straight - Doduo shot off at a very high speed, quicker than any other Quick Attacks he had ever seen. In half a second, Doduo came back to where it first was, and Shellder was seen bouncing up, showing that it was stunned by the speed of the attack. It was far from finished, and was able to put up a fight.
Moving on and Nathan knew that he had to try harder. He was looking forward to the ending because they were both really competetive and the end would be a close finish.
"Second time lucky! Shellder use Tackle again and make sure that you really make this a good one!" Nathan hoped that this attack would be much more powerful than the last one, because Sean was far into the lead right now. Shellder started off by bouncing once, then bouncing in a forwards direction towards Doduo. Each time Shellder hit the ice, there were chips in the thich ice left from the sharp shell. Shellder kept on bouncing until it reached Doduo, then made one big bounce, pushing Doduo a little until it fell backwards onto the cold ice once again. This time, the attack was indeed a little more powerful since one of the spikes on Shellder's shell had psuhed right into Doduo's body like a pin. Fortunately for Sean, the injury wasn'tthe worst and he was going to do the same, hoping for a very powerful hit on Shellder. The Rage was a good boost of attack, and Doduo was definetely showing an effect as it was breathing heavily and was scowling.
"You've just made a big mistake there. Doduo, use Peck!" Nathan was left guessing on what the mistake was, but he only had to turn to both Doduo's angry faces. Straight away, Doduo ran across the ice and reached Shellder right away, each head simoultaneously pecking Shellder's tough shell. The chips on the shell had then turned into wide cracks, and Shellder's pupils shortened in shock. It was safe to say that Peck had overpowered Tackle by a longshot, and Nathan had to do something quick.
"It's about time to show you Shellder's best move. Look out." Nathan paused for a moment, Sean didn't have much enthusiasm to care about him, so he just wanted to get it out of the way.
"Go on then." He wasn't worried at all, but he was going to be suprised.
"I will! Shellder, use Icicle Spear!" now there was a problem, if being on a stage of ice wasn't enough, this move was an Ice-type, which was awful for a Flying-type like Doduo, but Sean could get lucky and it might not do so well. Shellder started right away, by pointing its mouth at Doduo's body, then it launched an icicle that had a sharp end towards Doduo, then another, then another. One by one, each freezing cold speark hit Doduo's body and penetrated its feathered coat, Doduo squawked.
Now the battle was getting back the way Nathan liked it, and the Icicle Spear made the battle catch up quickly, but he still wasn't in the lead. Sean was going to carry on, staying calm. As for Doduo, both heads were turning read, smoke was appearing around its head and it was a very angry scene. The crowd gasped.
"You're gunna needa try a little harder than that. Doduo fight back with Quick Attack!" it wasn't Doduo's most hardest attack, but Sean was confident that since Doduo was in a hugely enraged state. It started right away, by dashing at the spped of sound to Shellder and attacking it before running back straight away. Shellder looked as if it were stressed, its tongue was slapping all over the place, and its eyes kept squeezing in pain. Looks like even with Icicle Spear, Nathan couldn't quite hit Doduo well. He was going to try again.
"This better work this time! Use Icicle Spear again, Shellder!" Nathan couldn't stand losing the second time around in the battle, because then he would only have one Pokemon left and if that would lose then he would lose not just the battle, but his chance to win the league. Shellder started a few seconds after flopping across the ice, by shooting out a couple of icicles from its big black mouth. Each spear was not aimed accurately, so one by one, each spear headed towards the sky, then hit the ice, leaving a few cracks, then forming a puddle. The attack failed, and Nathan felt like breaking down to the ground.
"This isn't happening!" Nathan was seriously stressed, and couldn't handle much more, but he had to. He got back up and tried to contain himself. Sean, who was over the moon, felt like he would use Doduo's best attack.
"And now, Doduo, finish Shellder off! Use Fury Attack!" hile being like Icicle Spear without the weakness, this would still be a very powerful attack and most likely a finish due to the attack boost from Rage. Doduo started to run across the ice immediately, quickly approaching Shellder who didn't move at all, due to distraction. When Doduo reached Shellder, Doduo took several jabs with each beak until the chips in Shellder's shell became cracks and the pain was too much to bare. After a few jabs, Doduo ran back and Shellder's eyes were crossed, tongue was flat and didn't move one bit. This signalled that Shellder was knocked out.
"Oh no!! This can't be! Never mind, Shellder. You did your best, that's all that matters." he felt a really weak tinge in his voice, showing frustration. He retreated Shellder.
"Oh yeah! Well done, Doduo! You're did brilliantly!" Sean also retreated his Pokemon, after congratulating it. Now it was time for the third part of the battle, and Natasha was very excited to see Sean win. She was cheering on Sean, with all her support. Sean smiled, and was now sure he would win.

Warren grinned as his name flashed under the Rock field. Grass was probably easier, but he'd got a fairly basic field for his first battle.

"Naill?" he muttered to himself, "Who's that?" Someone tapped him on the shoulder.

"That would be me." Warren glanced round, coming face to face with an older and considerably taller boy wearing a worn denim jacket and a pair of sunglasses. Indoors. Resisting the urge to snigger Warren nodded.

"Well, don't expect to be getting far in this tournament. I'm gonna be your first opponent!" Naill rolled his eyes, though of course, nobody noticed.

"Please, kid. I've caught over twenty pokemon of a variety of types. I bet you don't even have more than the standard party of six." Warren gritted his teeth, deciding not to mention that he did in fact have one more battle-ready Pokemon.

"It doesn't matter how many Pokemon you have. If my three beat your three, you lose, simple as that."

"But they won't, will they? I competed in last year's tournament and I made it to the top eight. What about you?"

"Well, um, yeah," Warren sputtered, "I was in, um....Johto....in the Silver conference. I came second." Naill raised an eyebrow, sending his sunglasses sliding down his nose a few millimetres.

"That's odd, seeing as I happened to watch the tournament in question and the person who came second was called Alex."

"There was a name mix-up."

"Alex was female."

"And a gender mix-up." Naill paused and glanced at Warren, then grinned.

"Whatever." He shook his head, "Just don't get your hopes up, kid." With that, he turned on his heel and marched out of the room, leaving Warren staring after him, fists clenched. Sighing, he turned and slouched onto some of the seats in the waiting room. His battle was in just under an hour, so he'd have a little time to prepare, but not much. What was he meant to do? It made sense to use a Rock or Ground type as they'd suit the field perfectly. After all, most people chose types that matched the arena...but maybe that was the problem. Grinning, Warren pulled out his Pokedex, called up a list of his Pokémon's moves and began to think.

"THE NEXT BATTLE WILL BE BETWEEN WARREN SIMMONS, OF PALLET TOWN AND NAILL ANDERSON, OF CELADON CITY!" Warren winced as the commentator made his declaration to the stadium. He gulped as he walked up to the battlefield, feeling a little sick. Glancing around as he climbed onto the stand at his end of the sandy field strewn with rocks, Warren realised that the entire stadium was filled with cheering spectators. From the other end of the battlefield, Naill walked in, sunglasses still in place. The two of them locked eyes, or at least, Warren thought they did. It was hard to tell with the shades. A referee walked in, flags in hand and took up his spot to the side. Behind him, a scoreboard flickered on, displaying the two trainer's faces and three lights - red for Warren and Green for Naill.

"Alright!" the referee called, raising the green and red flags high above his head, "Begin the match!" Naill grinned.

"Finally! I'll start with Hans!" Warren frowned, wondering what type of pokemon Hans would be. Seconds later, he got his answer as the familiar beam of light disappeared into the ground, which then erupted in a cloud of dust, revealing a small, brown, mole-like Pokemon...or it's head, at least. Diglett.

"Fine, then I'll use...Venonat!" A ripple of collective murmurs rippled around the stadium, half about the bug's noticeably blue eyes and half about the odd type matchup. Naill just raised an eyebrow.

"Well, if you want to screw up your chances, go ahead. Hans, let's open with Magnitude!" At once, Hans began to spin, sending the earth around it into a tremor. Warren narrowed his eyes.

"Confusion on yourself!" Seconds before the shockwaves reached the blue bug, Venonat jumped into the air...and stayed there. Glowing a faint blue, it bobbed up and down, the earth rippling harmlessly beneath. Naill nodded.

"Not bad. But you're not completely out of reach. Hans, Scratch it!" The Diglett nodded, then ducked beneath the earth, disappearing. Seconds later, it erupted again behind Venonat, then opened its mouth and slashed at the bug with its razor-sharp teeth. Venonat squealed as it fell to the ground, but quickly picked itself up, only to find that Hans had disappeared again.

"Now, Dig!" With a crash, the ground beneath Venonat collapsed and it fell several feet, landing at the bottom of a shallow pit.

"Astonish it!" Venonat, at the bottom of its hole, picked itself up and just had time to growl before Hans popped up beneath it and threw it high in to the air screeching, it landed face first on the ground. Warren stared. What was he meant to do now? He was losing...everyone would be watching...what if half his team never even got to battle in the league? Warren's mouth flapped open and shut wordlessly.

"Ven, ven?" the bug called cautiously to its trainer, but no order came in reply. Sighing, Venonat glanced at the innocently smiling mole before letting out an ear-splitting screech. Hans squealed as the sonic waves assaulted its ear, looking around blankly as the sound faded. Naill grimaced.

"Come on, snap out of it! Show them your Mudslap!" The Diglett bent down and promptly flicked up a spray of mud which flew high into the air...before raining back down on its head. The mole shook its head blindly, the thick gunge obscuring its eyes. Venonat grinned and charged, leaping straight onto Hans's head, the weight almost pushing it right back underground. Warren, finally snapping back to his senses, grinned at the opportunity.

"Sludge Bomb!" Venonat chuckled as it raised its hands above its head, a small ball of disgusting slime forming between them. Jumping into the air, it swung its hands down and sent the projectile straight into Hans's head. Squealing in pain, the mole shot underground, leaving nothing but a dark hole in the ground. Warren growled. He couldn't get to that Diglett if he didn't know where it was.

"Alright, Dig!" Hans, having finally come back to its senses, erupted under Venonat in a cloud of dust and mud. Squealing, the bug was thrown back and landed, breathing heavily. Warren grimaced. This was not going how he had imagined.

"Confusion on the mole!" Venonat raised its glowing hands and the Diglett froze, suddenly unable to dive back beneath the surface.

"Now, Poison Powder it!" Venonat shook itself and a cloud of purple dust flew of its coat and covered the arena. Diglett hacked and coughed as the toxic powder flowed into its lungs and Warren grinned.

"Tackle!" Venonat flew forwards Hans, striking the little mole directly, before launching itself off its head. The Diglett, freed from confusion, shot back underground before launching another Astonish, catching Venonat off-guard and sending it stumbling. Warren growled.

"Return!" he called, annoyed. At least now he could save Venonat for later, rather than just have it get beaten by a Diglett.

"Now, Haunter, let's go! Lick!" As the hairy bug disappeared with a flash of red light, the huge ghost burst onto the battlefield, its tongue swinging. Screeching, Hans ducked, barely missing it, and shpt underground. Haunter grinned, then fired its tongue straight down the tunnel. A faint squeal was heard, right before Hans's head shot out of one of the other holes it had created, screeching angrily.

"Finish it, Haunter! Use Night Shade!" Haunter held up its hands and a small ball of black lightning formed between them. Diglett just had time to gasp before the projectile hit it dead on, throwing up a huge cloud of dust. Warren grinned as it settled, revealing Hans to be unconscious. Haunter just floated there grinning. Oddly, Niall seemed to be grinning as well.

"Very good, Warren. But my next Pokemon is sure to leave you defeated!"

Haha, this made me laugh so hard :P
Also, I didn't expect Warren of all people to suffer from stage fright! What a delicate soul...

This was the last part of the first part to the league, and things were looking great for Sean. Nothing was going wrong. As for Nathan, he was seriously stressed and hoped for a miracle.
Sean wondered how Nathan could have made it into the league with his kind of startegies, but he does understand in a way. There was one choice left for Nathan to choose for this battle, and it was quite a twisted one.
"Okay... please work, Ditto!" Nathan got his PokeBall out, then held it for a moment and hoped that this Pokemon would be a strong comeback. He threw the ball to the ground for a purple goo ball to come out. This Pokemon had no attacks at all, instead it could morph into any Pokemon. Any one. Even if it was a powerful one.
Sean didn't know what Ditto was capable of, but he was sure that it couldn't be that hard. He chose his last Pokemon to use.
"Fair enough. Golbat, come out!" this would be Sean's first battle with Golbat as a Golbat, since it had only recently evolved. Golbat was entered onto the battlefield, looking very intimidating with a much bigger mouth and sharper teeth. Although, there was a bigger advantage to when it was a Zubat since now it has eyes so it can see.
Since both Pokemon were on the battlefield and ready to attack, the battle could begin. There was a variety of moves for Sean to let Golbat use, but he wanted to see what Ditto could do. Only one thing Ditto could do, and Nathan was ready to see what would happen.
"Okay, Ditto, Transform!" it was time to see what Ditto could transform into, and it was entirely possible that the battle could change, depending on which Pokemon Ditto would become. Right away, Ditto began to morph into what looked like an animal, and then a mouse. This mouse was a small Pokemon, one that was not the strongest but could do quite a bit of damage. Ditto finished morphing, and had became a Sandshrew. Not the best of Pokemon, and Sean knew it. He laughed.
"Hahaha! Seriously? No way!" his gloating really was pushing Nathan. Luckily, he too knew what Sandshrew could do and there were some things that Sandshrew could do.
"Oh, you will see." Nathan folded his arms and smiled. He was sure that Ditto becoming a Sandshrew couldn't be that bad. Sean was ready to choose which move Golbat could use.
"Yeah, right! Golbat, use Bite!" right away, Sean wanted to get to attacking, never mind strategies. The attack was a strong move that Golbat could use, plus the sharp teeth would enhance the attack. Golbat started to fly, and then accellarate when approaching Ditto. Right away, Golbat's incredibly sharp fangs had pushed into Ditto's squidgy body, which had not changed in the transformation to Sandshrew. The attack hurt, but it didn't take long for the mark to fade away and Ditto's body to be back the way it was.
"Yes!" Sean noticed the impact that Golbat had made already, and knew things could only get better. Nathan, on the other hand, was sure that the attack was nothing, and Ditto could do better if he put a little bit of thought into it. He chose a move that he knew Sandshrew knew.
"Use Swift!" the good thing about the move was that it would never miss, so no matter what, Golbat couldn't avoid this attack, regardless of the damage. Right away, Ditto opened its mouth and shot out a ray of golden stars that spun as they travelled towards Golbat. Each star smacked Golbat's whole body, wings and feet. Luckily for Sean, the damage wasn't so bad so Golbat was able to stay up. Ditto stopped shooting out the stars. The attack was good and probably balanced things back out once more.
"Oh please." Sean couldn't care less about what Ditto could do as a Sandshrew, he knew that it was really just a weak mouse that couldn't do much, especially to a bat.
"Golbat, use Wing Attack!" this was one of Golbat's more recent attacks, and was a very powerful Flying-type move. This was probably Golbat's most powerful flying attack, and Sean was sure it was the right time to use it. Golbat flew up above the ice, and flapped its way forwards to Ditto, before taking two strikes with each sharp-edged wing once. There were some painful scratched left on Ditto's rubberish body that couldn't heal as quick as the bitemarks could. Already, Ditto, in Sandshrew form, was in pain. Nathan still had yet to get the best out of Sandshrew.
"I'd like to see you do better than that!" Sean laughed at how things were still turning out well for himself, and nothing was going wrong. However, Nathan had other plans.
"Oh, you will see. Ditto, fight back with Scratch!" while the attack was totally laughable, and Sean couldn't help but laugh, the attack could be very tough with Sandshrew's tough claws which Nathan did take advantage of. Right away, Sandshrew started to curl up into a ball, then rolled off at a quick speed until reaching Golbat, then jumping up and taking a scratch on Golbat's soft body. The nails on Sandshrew's claws really were sharp as needles, and the mark was visible for a few seconds. It didn't take long until Golbat was fine, but the attack was rather strong.
"That's it?" Sean didn't really understand what was so strong about the attack and wasn't scared of what else Nathan's Ditto could do as a Sandshrew. He thought of Golbat's next move to use, but this time it was a strategic one.
"Oh well. Torment!" incase Ditto was going to be repetitive, which Sean thought was rather annoying, there was Torment. This attack would prevent Ditto from using the same attack for twice in a row, not like Nathan was planning on doing so. Golbat started off by making some strange noise and mouth movements, as if it were talking at a high speed. The noise that sounded as if only Pokemon could understand had made Ditto feel strange, and felt like it couldn't use the same move twice in a row. Golbat stopped this chatting motion, and the chatter had stopped. Nathan didn't know the effect of Torment, only Sean did. So, if Nathan were to use any move twice in a row he'd be suprised. He chose his next move anyway.
"I have not one clue what that was, but I don't care. Ditto, use Fury Swipes!" while not being the same as Scratch, Fury Swipes was similar, but that didn't matter since if it wasn't the same attack than Torment wouldn't stop it from being used. Anyway, Ditto curled back up into a ball and rolled across the ice, aiming its body at Golbat. Then, when Ditto was close enough, its Sandshrew body had jumped up and both claws had swiped Golbat several times, one by one. Each scratch done by Sandshrew had left slight marks, but Golbat could handle it. Within a few seconds, the marks worn off again.
"Yes! I must be catching up!" Nathan was right, sort of. The attack had possibly sorted himself out, and caught him back up. However, Sean had one move in his head that Golbat could use and would perhaps screw the battle up for Nathan. One that Sean hated himself.
"Not anymore! Golbat, show 'em your Confuse Ray!" this attack, hence the name, would confuse Ditto, and make it have not only a chance of missing, but a chance of hurting itself. This was probably the most essential move that Sean could think of and it probably would have been better to use earlier on in the battle. Golbat started to zap out a purple, sparkling beam that flowed across the air looking beautiful, but the effect in the end wasn't going to be. This ray had carried on travelling for Ditto to catch this ray, and its mind was taken over by the mysterious power. They ray had stopped travelling and Ditto was now confused; its head was spinning; eyes were rotating and it kept tripping up.
"What have you done?!" Nathan, like Sean hated it when his Pokemon were confused.
"Pretty much just gave me a one way ticket to victory. And guess who's not got the ticket?" Sean clicked his fingers, making Nathan real mad. Despite Ditto's problem, he chose his next attack.
"Ugh!! Ditto, use Rollout!" this time, it was a Rock-type attack, so if it did hit, there would be double the damage since Golbat is a Flying-type. Plus, it would get tougher each turn so this could be the lifeline Nathan was waiting for. Ditto curled up, facing a completely wrong direction.
"No!! What are you doing?!" Nathan was trying to make Sandshrew go ina different direction, but it clearly wasn't working. He unfortunately didn't have a remote control that could do it for him, and it certainly didn't exist. Sandshrew kept on steering itself in a completely wrong direction, the audience were laughing at how wrong the attack was going. Sandshrew took a jump while still in a ball at a fir tree that was used for decoration. This tree had very sharp needles in, which had pierced Ditto's skin for a few seconds, and it took a few rollings to get rid of them. The first few times didn't get them off, but only made them worse. The audience were not impressed with the attack at all, and Nathan was humiliated. And to top it all off, Sandshrew was still confused.
"You can't be serious!" Nathan placed his head inbetween his hands in shame. As for Sean, well, he was the opposite. He already knew what he was going to use next.
"Looks like things are going in the right way! Golbat, carry on with Bite!" second time lucky and Sean could only be optimistic the way things were going. Right away, Golbat began to fly over to Ditto who was still rolling over the place to get rid of some needles. Then, Golbat's fangs had pushed right into Ditto's body, leaving a rash behind that seriously damaged Ditto further. It wasn't going to be much longer untilthe battle was over now.
"Well well well, Nathan. You're gunna need to think of something, fast, if I were you." Sean was pushing Nathan to the limit, and it was making him wanting to break into a fit. He chose any move, any move at all.
"Arghh! Shut up! Shandshrew, please! Use Rollout again!" even after the last time, there was a possibility that once again confusion could strike Sandshrew out. That was when, Sean remembered.
"Big mistake!" Sean smiled with a long grin, making Nathan feel pressured. He turned over to Sandshrew and could notice nothing was happening.
"What's going on?!" Nathan was panicking at how things weren't going his way. Ditto was standing still, looking around as if it were struggling, due to its confused state. As an effect of Torment, Sandshrew couldn't use the same move twice. Therefore the attack was void. This was the icing on the cake for Nathan, there was nothing to be done.
"What!?!" he had never been more suprised and humilited in a battle ever. The crowd were ready for some real excitement, and Sean was ready to get a sweeping finish.
"Excellent! Golbat, finish Ditto off with Wing Attack!" Sean knew that in Sandshrew's condition, this would be the final attack in the battle. Nathan watched in horror, as Golbat quickly got up and flew over to Ditto at a shocking speed, then taking a swipe at Ditto with Each wing simoultaneously. The attack had took Ditto to the ground, and knocked it out, returning it to its original form, cross eyed. The attack was finished, and Sean had won. The first part of the league. He had won. The commentator spoke.
"And the winner of the Ice field is Sean Taylor from Cinnabar Island!" the crowd went wild when the commentator finished speaking. Sean turned to Natasha in the audience, who was looking at him with pride. Nathan returned Ditto, and bowed his head in shame. Sean turned to Golbat who was sitting down.
"Couldn't have done it with out you, thanks. You deserve a break." Sean returned Golbat, and waited for a further instruction on where to go next. It felt so thrilling to have already beaten the first part of the league, but there was much more to come for now. Anything for Sean, was totally possible.

OOC: By the way, you get a cookie if you know where any of Naill's Pokemon got their nicknames :D

Warren grinned as Hans was returned to its Pokeball. He'd frozen up for a minute there, but thanks to Venonat, he'd managed to stay in the game and win the first battle. Nevertheless, the bug would be tired so his advantage wasn't exactly big.

"Let's go, Crane!" Warren rolled his eyes at the next stupid nickname as a small, helmeted rodent burst onto the field. A Cubone. Warren grinned. At least he knew what sort of thing to expect from it.

"Bone Club!" Before Haunter could react, it was struck a glancing blow by the swinging bone and Warren growled.

"Lick!" As the bone came back for a second strike, Haunter reeled out its tongue and caught the weapon, before wrenching it from its owner's hands and clocking Crane in the face with it. The helmeted pokemon cried out, tears welling up in its eyes. Naill frowned.

"Grow up, Crane. Now is not the time. Bone Club it!" Crane nodded, then dashed forwards, before striking Haunter again with its club. Warren grimaced. Ghost or not, Haunter was still part Poison-type. He had to switch.

"Return, Haunter!" he called and the hurt ghost disappeared back into its Pokeball.

"Now, Cubone, time to fight!" Naill raised an eyebrow as the helmeted rodent burst onto the field.

"A nice idea, but a flawed one nevertheless. Crane is significantly stronger than your Cubone. Let me demonstrate. Crane, use Brick Break!" At once, it charged forwards and lifted its club up, before swinging it down and cracking Cubone on the skull. A tiny fragment of bone flew off and Warren swore that he could see a tiny crack. And as interesting as it would be if Cubone's skull was smashed off, it wouldn't do much to help him win. Naill grinned.

"Again!"

"Tail whip!" As Crane swung his club once more, Cubone spun out of the way, using its tail to hook one of Crane's legs at the same time. As it stumbled, Cubone delivered a devastating Headbutt, sending Crane flying backwards, to land barely standing. The two trainers locked eyes and shouted the next order in unison.

"Bone Club!" As Crane steadied himself, Cubone charged, swinging his club vertically. Crane howled, the cries echoing around his skull, then swung with his own bone and smacked it to the side, before swiping at Cubone's gut. As it stumbled back, winded, Crane looped its club around and brought it crashing down on Cubone's spiny back. It cried out it pain, stumbling back, bent over double. Naill grinned as Crane laughed, the noise reverberating around the helmet to make an irritating little melody. Warren gritted his teeth.

"Alright, use Focus Energy!" Cubone slowly breathed in and out, closing its eyes and holding its bone out in front of it, concentrating hard and trying to relax. Naill rolled his eyes.

"What a waste of time. Headbutt it, Crane!" Warren grinned.

"Alright, now Bone Club, Cubone! Keep moving!" Cubone nodded, then jumped to the side as Crane thrust with his head, before spinning and smacking its legs out from under it. Cubone raised its bone for a finishing strike, but Crane rolled out of the way and jumped back to its feet, spinning the bone between its hands before charging and stabbing at Cubone's gut with its bone. Cubone jumped, the bone barely grazing its feet and landed on the other side of Crane, spinning around with another swing that Crane raised his own club just in time to block. The two duellists jumped back, clubs raised, facing each other down. Warren and Naill both grinned.

"Headbutt, Crane!"

"Headbutt, Cubone!" The two of them dropped their bones to their sides, lowered their heads and charged, colliding hard in the centre of the ring. Both stumbled back, then charged again and smashed into each other, the two skulls grinding against each other as the two adversaries vied for control. Warren and Naill both grinned.

"Crane, keep pushing! You can out-muscle him!" Indeed, Cubone was slowly sliding backwards, but Warren wasn't planning on just standing there.

"Disengage!" Cubone spun and Crane's pushing force threw it forwards, making Crane stumble as it tried to stop.

"Now, Bone Club, Cubone!" Cubone charged and smacked Crane in the back before he could turn around. Stumbling, it managed to turn but it was weakening.

"Headbutt!" Crane paused as Cubone attacked once more and was caught under the chin with the pointed skull. Crane lay on the ground, struggling to stand and Warren sneered.

"Finish it." Cubone brought down its club in a powerful Bone Club which smacked Crane in the stomach. The defeated rodent cried out, once, then fainted. Warren grinned as another green light faded under Naill's name. Now only one was remaining, against Warren's three. Grinning, the young trainer glared at his competitor.

"Come on Naill, release your last Pokemon and get it over with. You don't have a hope in hell of winning so let's hurry up and finish in time for lunch!" Naill just grinned.

"Oh, we'll be finishing soon enough, Warren!" he yelled back, "Because in just a few minutes, all three of your Pokemon will be snoozing in the gravel!"

OOC: one more post will do it....that'll be up tomorrow :D

OOC: oh screw it, I'm doing it now :D

Naill raised his final Pokeball and glanced at Warren.

"You could always just give up, you know. After all, all you're doing is postponing the inevitable." Warren rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, well life is just postponing the inevitable isn't it, but no-one ever gives up on that!"

"Nobody ever wins the fight, though, do they? Anyway, enough blathering. Let's win this, Chuck!" Warren narrowed his eyes as a small, humanoid pokemon appeared on the field, its skin grey and its head adorned with three short, yellow crests.

"Maaachop!" it shouted at the tired looking Cubone, who was raising its club warily.

"Headbutt, Cubone!" Naill just grinned as Cubone lowered its head and charged.

"Seismic Toss." Chuck reached and grabbed onto Cubone's skull, before using the energy to swing it round. The flying rodent screeched as the Machop released it, sending it flying into one of the large rocks littering the battle field. Cubone fell to the ground and didn't get up. Warren grimaced.

"Alright, return, Cubone." Nail snickered as the rodent disappeared. Warren noticed. "I wouldn't get too cocky if I were you. Haunter, time for another fight!" Warren threw another ball and the huge, gaseous ghost reappeared. Warren grinned.

"How do you hope to hurt Haunter when you can't even hit it?" Naill laughed.

"Oh, do you really think I'm that naive? Chuck, Foresight!" Warren blanched as Machop's eyes glowed red, sending an iridescent beam over Haunter. The ghost seemed to solidify a little, becoming more tangible.

"Karate Chop!" Chuck dashed forwards, spinning and slicing at Haunter with its hand. The ghost, unaccustomed to dodging such attacks, moved too late and was struck hard. Warren grimaced as Haunter let out a low wail, shaking its head in pain.

"Fight back, use Night Shade!" Haunter focused, a ball of black lightning forming between its shadowy claws. As Chuck leapt for another attack, Haunter threw it and it collided head on, sending the small grey humanoid falling to the ground. It hit hard, but struggled tenaciously back to its feet.

"Use that pain, Chuck! Revenge!" The Machop growled, glaring at Haunter, then charged before leaping high into the air and bringing both of its hands smashing down onto the head of the surprised ghost. Warren watched, aghast, as Haunter slowly drifted to earth, unconscious. He had only Venonat left, and it would be tired from the first battle. Hopefully, it had had a decent rest since then and was ready to fight.

"Alright, Venonat, let's go!" The blue-eyed bug reappeared on the field, facing down the martial artist with a determined look in its eye. Determination might not be enough, however.

"Chuck, Seismic Toss!" The Machop bound forwards and, grabbing hold of Venonat's hands, flung it high into the sky. Warren just grinned.

"Sludge Bomb and Confusion!" As Venonat peaked it spun to face down, the let out a barrage of sludge balls, before guiding them all towards Chuck with Confusion. The Machop threw itself to the side, but the attack followed and bombarded it with disgusting slime. As Venonat drifted down to earth, floating on Confusion, Chuck picked itself up and glared at the snickering bug.

"Karate Chop!" Once more, the enemy charged, but Venonat simply raised its hands and the Machop screeched to a stop, surrounded by a blue glow once more. Venonat gave a gentle push against the air and Chuck flew backwards, skidding to a halt on its back. Warren grinned widely as it struggled back to its feet.

"Give it up, Naill! You're finished! He's taken too much damage!" Naill raised an eyebrow.

"Yes...that Confusion did hurt quite a bit...Revenge!" The Machop charged and leapt, fists raised for a double-handed strike. Venonat glanced up and Chuck froze mid-air. Screeching angrily, it desperately tried to get at Venonat, but the bug just chuckled, keeping it safely out of reach. Warren grinned.

"Alright, Venonat! The first round is OURS!" with that roar, Venonat gave one final shove and the Machop was thrown straight through one of the boulders. Naill gasped as it lay there unconscious, then sadly returned it as the stadium erupted into cheer.

"AND THE BATTLE GOES TO....WARREN SIMMONS OF PALLET TOWN!" boomed the commentator. Warren grinned as he wandered over to Naill, who was checking his Machop. He glanced up at Warren.

"What, have you come to gloat now?" Warren frowned, looking hurt.

"Would I do something like that? I had come to say thanks for a good battle." Naill squinted up at him.

"Are you serious?" Warren broke out into a wicked grin.

"Not really." Flicking his hand up, Warren made the shape of an L on his forehead and pointed dramatically at Naill.

"LOSER!"

A speaker rang out over the stadium.

"Would all participants please report to the main lobby to find their matches and times, then please report to their disignated fields," it echoed.

Sam took a deep breath. It was finally here. His first match that would decide the rest of his league preformance. This was it. He walked into the main lobby. Scanning for his name, he eventually found it. His match was to take place in the grass field.

"Wonderful...a field everyone is used to...no advantages there...wonderful..." Sam whispered. Thoughts were already stirring in his head. Onix would be at a huge disadvantage since it couldn't burrow underground. He's save him for the rock field. Cloy would be at a disadvantage here with no water.. He immediatly took Pidg and Nine as options, but the last was down to Umbre and Pika. Umbre was his best, but this was the kind of area Pika lived in before Sam caught him. He quickly decided that Pika's experience would be better, along with its slight speed advantage.

"ONE MINUTE! ALL COMPETITORS MUST IMMEDIATLY REPORT TO THEIR ASSIGNED FIELDS!" the voice echoed again. Sam sighed and walked towards the grass field.

Walking through the main entrance, Sam instantly caught his breath. So many people. He had never enjoyed people watching his battles, but this was fricking overkill.

"Are you Sam?" a voice asked. Sam turned around to see a man wearing a yellow and black striped shirt.

"Yeah. And you are?" Sam asked.

"You need know me only as the referee. Please step up to the platform and adress your opponent. The match will begin momentarily," the ref said.

"Very well...I will see you soon then," Sam said, walking towards the red platform. As soon as he stepped on, it started rising. It rose about 5 feet before stopping. Sam looked the field over. It was all grass, nothing else except for the walls that boxed it in and protected the crowd. A girl stood on the other side and now she appeared to be looking Sam over.

"So...you're my victim?" she asked.

"Um...what?" Sam asked.

"My opponent...who I'm going to beat," she explained.

"Um, no. I'm here to win," Sam said.

"Say what you will. Anyway, my name's Alice...or as you will now know me, the one who eliminates you," Alice said.

"Okay, seriously? Don't go into a match so cocky...you might not come out the same way," Sam said.

"...whatever," Alice said, obviously annoyed with Sam now. The stadium was full of people. It was a lot of noise, but something unexpected happened. Pika came out of his pokeball and hopped on Sam's head.

"Pika...what're you doing?" Sam asked. Pika just sat there as Sam realized what Pika was doing. It was looking at the match. Somehow, it knew Sam had picked it.

"A Pikachu? Wow...you aren't gonna last long in this tournament," Alice said.

"Don't underestimate Pika...you'd be surprised..." Sam said.

"I'm so sure...anyway, looks like the match is ready to begin. Hope you're ready to lose," Alice sneered. Sam said nothing. Pidg was going to be his first pokemon if things went as planned.

"The first match on the grass field between Sam and Alice will now begin. Trainers, please send out your first pokemon!" the ref yelled.

"I'll send out my Bellsprout first!" Alice yelled.

"I choose you, Pidg!" Sam yelled. People gasped in awe and Sam looked around for the cause. He noticed it about 50 feet off the ground. A screen that showed a picture of both trainers and 3 pokeballs next to each. A picture of a Pidgeotto and a Bellsprout appeared on their respective sides.

"May the first round...begin!" the ref yelled.

"Let's do this, Pidg! Gust!" Sam yelled. Pidg flapped its wings and Bellsprout bent into a more sturdy position to avoid being blown away, but it wasn't quick enough, as it flew backwards into a wall.

"Now, let's show 'em Tackle!" Sam yelled. Pidg flew forward, but Alice just smirked.

"Use your Growth attack, then Vine Whip!" Alice yelled. Bellsprout instantly grew to double its size then its vine flew forward, grabbing Pidg's beak.

"Now throw it!" Alice yelled. Bellsprout lifted its vine up, lifting Pidg as well, then it tossed Pidg forward into the other wall.

"Crap...we're not gonna be able to do much against something like that..." Sam whispered.

"Go! Growth again, then Wrap!" Alice yelled, ready for heavy combat. Bellsprout grew again then pulled Pidg forward with a vine and wrapped it up.

"Now beat it down with Vine Whip!" she yelled. Sam cursed under his breath, realizing that nothing would work. Bellsprout started to beat the living crap out of Pidg, who was helpless.

"Ah, but I'm not without mercy. Use Sleep Powder to make it not feel it just yet," Alice yelled. A green powder flew out of Bellsprout's mouth and into Pidg's beak. Pidg instantly fell asleep and couldn't move. This would help him for now, but not for long. When Pidg woke up, he'd take the pain. Pidg was tough, so he'd keep fighting, but one more big attack and Pidg was through. After this move, Bellsprout continued to beat the ever loving crap out of Pidg, who still couldn't feel it. Alice then made what Sam assumed she believed was the final move.

"Throw it, then slam it with one last Vine Whip!" Alice yelled. Bellsprout lifted its vine and threw Pidg forward towards a wall. Sam was prepared for one move.

"WAKE UP!" Sam yelled. Pidg's eyes flew open and it quickly let out a screech of pain. Sam knew how it must feel.

"NOW FINISH IT WITH VINE WHIP!" Alice yelled.

"NOW!" Sam yelled. The vine flew down and crushed the ground and a cloud of dust flew up.

"Pidg is def-" the ref started, but he was quickly cut off by Sam

"Hold it! Wait for everything to clear before deciding anything," Sam said. The ref gave him a weird look, but nodded. The dust slowly cleared and Bellsprout lifted its vine, but under it was nothing. Sam smirked.

"You think I'd fall for something so...obvious?" Sam asked.

"Well I did..." Alice said.

"Well, you...FAIL! AERIAL ACE!" Sam yelled. No one seemed to get it before Pidg flew down from the sky and hit Bellsprout with a lot of force. Sam was sure that this would do a fair amount of damage to Bellsprout, but nothing appeared to happen.

"Ha! You think a weak attack like that will beat my Bellsprout? Please! You're gonna need way more attack power before you battle me!" Alice yelled.

"Hm...attack power isn't all that matters in battle, you know. You're about to find that out," Sam said, putting on a confident look. He talked big, but he didn't have anything to back it up. Bellsprout wasn't something Sam could take down at this point. Still, Growth would wear off eventually. He just had to put Bellsprout in a position where it wouldn't be able to stop him once it shrank back.

"Well, I believe this is the end. CRUSH IT WITH VINE WHIP!" Alice yelled. Bellsprout's vine flew forward at Pidg. It might have been the adrenaline, but everything seemed to slow down for a second. Suddenly, everything slid into place. That vine was Bellsprout's foot and it was long. Long enough to tangle its body! Sam knew he only had one shot, but it had to work!

"Go! Quick Attack through its legs!" Sam yelled. Pidg flew forward at top speed, narrowly dodging the attack.

"Follow it no matter what!" Alice yelled. Sam could tell she was desperate. Pidg flew easily through the large gap while the vine followed.

"Now up by its head!" Sam yelled. Pidg flew around Bellsprout's head as the vine followed, wrapping around Bellsprout's shoulder then head.

"Now to me!" Sam yelled. Pidg flew dead at Sam and the vine followed, then stopped.

"What's wrong?!" Alice screamed.

"Why don't you take a look? This is of your own doing. Bellsprout has...just look," Sam said.

"Whoa...wait, when did all this happen?" Alice asked, looking at all the tangled mess.

"Don't you know? It was during your attack. You told Bellsprout to keep going no matter what. Its a very well trained pokemon...too well trained," Sam said. Bellsprout, now losing oxygen, started to shrink. Strangely, it escaped its bind during this. Sam wondered what happened, but then realized he had bigger problems. He had to finish this.

"Let's show it Aerial Ace to get it up!" Sam yelled. Pidg flew low and hit Bellsprout. Its place of impact caused Bellsprout to fly upward to the sky.

"Now use Twister!" Sam commanded. Pidg's wings flapped and Bellsprout was caught in a twister. It flew up through the twister, taking damage each moment.

"Now finish it! Aerial Ace dead at the ground," Sam said, giving the final command. Pidg flew straight up, then straight down. Bellsprout was crushed as the ref realized that it was over.

"Bellsprout is unable to battle! Pidgeotto wins!" he yelled.

"Yeah!" Sam yelled. Pidg cooed happily, but it was cut off by pain as Sam realized it wouldn't last too long with another round like that one.

"Alice, please throw out your next pokemon," the ref said, looking at Alice.

"Venonat, let's go!" she yelled, throwing out a pokeball. A purple bug appeared, which reminded Sam of the one he had caught so long ago.

"Sam, will you continue to use your Pidgeotto? Know that if you return him, the use of that pokemon is through," the ref said.

"I will continue to use Pidg," Sam said.

"Very well. May the second round...begin!" he yelled.

"Let's use Gust to start this fight," Sam yelled. Pidg flapped its wings quickly, but Venonat bent down to avoid the wind. The attack was basically useless Sam realized.

"Ha! Show them Confusion!" Alice yelled. Pidg was thrown to the ground almost instantly.

"Now use Confusion Tackle!" she yelled. Venonat flew into the air and then straight down on Pidg.

"Don't just sit there, Aerial Ace!" Sam yelled. The attacks collided, but Venonat seemed to get the edge as it pushed Pidg backwards.

"Weak! Crush it with Confusion!" Alice yelled. Sam realized that this was the limit. Pidg was lifted up, then appeared to be crushed. It fell to the ground limply.

"Pidgeotto is in no condition to battle. Venonat is the winner," the ref said. Alice smirked. Sam pulled out Pidg's pokeball and returned him, whispering words of encouragement.

"Throw out your next pokemon, please!" the ref yelled. Sam reached for Nine's pokeball, but was cut off by Pika jumping into the stadium, cheeks sparking. Sam instantly realized what was going on. Umbre, Pika and Pidg had a special bond none of Sam's other pokemon shared, having been through almost all of Sam's challenges together.

"You made a big mistake taking out Pidg, as Pika's gonna take you down," Sam said.

"Hah! A weak little electric mouse? I think not. I'll continue with Venonat," Alice said, looking at the ref.

"Very well. Let the fight begin!" he yelled.

"Show 'em what you've got! Thunderbolt!" Sam yelled.

"Please! Use Confusion to turn the attack around!" Alice yelled. Pika fired a huge jolt of electricity at Venonat, but it appeared to be caught and reversed. It flew right back at Pika, but Sam had anticipated a move like this.

"Go! Use Quick Attack and absorb whatever electricity you can," Sam yelled. Pika flew forward into the electricity, causing its fur to start sparking.

"Perfect, now charge!" Sam yelled. Pika was sparking now and flew forward. Venonat was fast, Sam knew that, but not fast enough to avoid an attack like this one. Pika hit it dead on, easily transferring the electricity.

"Yeah! Good job, now use Thunder Wave to paralyze it," Sam yelled.

"Get up above that move, then drop poison powder from above!" Alice yelled. Venonat rose off the ground with confusion, avoiding Sam's attack completely. Then, purple powder fell from above dead at Pika.

"No way left, no way right, let's just go straight up! Use Slam!" Sam yelled. Pika flew with its weight dead at Venonat. The poison obviously entered its system, but Sam knew it would take a minute to register. Venonat was now flying in the air without any control. Perfect condition to be shut down.

"Let's use your Thunderbolt!" Sam yelled. Pika loosed another bolt of electricity at Venonat, who was easily hit. It shook for a few seconds, then seemed to gain control.

"Huh...you're not half bad...but not enough! Supersonic!" Alice yelled. Venonat let out a horrible sound that easily caught Pika with confusion.

"Damn..." Sam whispered. This wasn't going to be easy. Pika wouldn't easily respond anymore, or at least until it was able to focus again. He knew that Alice would use this, but he also knew that Pika would snap out of it after one attack. Pain usually helped it focus.

"Use Leech Life!" Alice yelled. Venonat charged forward and bit Pika's arm, draining energy. Pika was able to focus again and pulled back, but then something happened. Both pokemon started coughing. Sam knew that Pika's poison had setteled, but then he realized that Venonat's biting Pika while the poison was in its system would be the cause of its own coughing.

"Alice...this is the end. Pika, we're gonna have to do this right. Use Quick Attack, then Tail Whip to get it up in the air!" Sam yelled. Pika charged forward then whipped out its tail, causing Venonat to jump. It was in the air now, and it was totally screwed if it tried to run.

"Thunderbolt!" Sam yelled. Pika loosed a bolt of electricity, but Alice simply grinned.

"Don't you ever learn? Confusion!" She yelled. The bolts turned around and flew back down, but Sam knew that she would do this. It was all part of the plan.

"Really? Get behind it then jump up and use it once more!" Sam yelled. Pika easily dodged the electricity and jumped up over Venonat. Alice gasped. She knew it was over. Pika loosed one final bolt of electricity, shocking Venonat insanely. It fell to the ground, now knocked out.

"Venonat is unable to battle! The round goes to Pikachu!" the ref yelled. He pointed at the display board. Sam realized he hadn't looked at it for a while. Looking up, he realized that a picture of a Pikachu and Venonat had been added and Pidg's picture along with Bellsprout and Venonat's had been turned into a silhouette.

"Alice, please send out your next pokemon," the ref said.

"Last one...go Tangela!" Alice yelled. A huge mess of vines appeared out of the pokeball.

"Sam, will you continue to use your pokemon? Know that if you return it, it is counted as a knockout," the ref said. Sam thought about it. Pika wouldn't have the neutral damage it had last round with electric attacks it was poisoned.

"No. I will return Pika," he said, pulling out the pokeball. Pika jumped back up with a sad yet angry look.

"Pika, I know you want to keep fighting, but your electric attacks won't do much against Tangela and you're poisoned. I don't wanna risk you getting in bad condition just yet anyway. The water field's gonna be perfect for you. So don't worry, you'll fight again. Just not now," Sam explained. Initially, Pika still looked angry but as Sam continued, it seemed to understand what he was seeing. It willingly went into its ball in the end.

"Sam, please send out your next pokemon," the ref said.

"There's only one pokemon I want fighting now! Nine, let's go!" Sam yelled. He threw the final pokeball he would in this match. Nine came out in what appeared to be a gust of flames. Sam smiled. This was going to be good, really good.

"Let the final match of the first battle in the grass arena...begin!" the ref yelled.

"Let's go! Ember," Sam yelled, not wanting to let his trump card to fall just yet. Nine loosed a weak looking flame compared to some of its attacks, but it was aparently enough to scare Alice.

"Get out of the way!" she yelled. Venonat quickly jumped out of the way and avoided the weak attack. This seemed to get some confidence for Alice, as she smirked.

"Is that all you've got? Ha!" she yelled.

"No, and you'll soon find that out, too. But for now, Quick Attack!" Sam yelled. Nine charged forward and Sam was sure this would get to Alice, but she grinned.

"Great! Grass Knot!" she yelled.

"What?!" Sam yelled. He had expected such an attack, but not this quickly. Nine fell over easily at the hands of this attack.

"Now Growth and Constrict!" Alice yelled. Tangela grew to twice its size and threw a vine at Nine, picking it up into the air.

"No!" Sam yelled.

"Now crush it and use Vine Whip!" Alice yelled. Tangela tightened its grip and started beating the crap out of Nine.

"Hold it! When you did a similar thing to Pidg, you had mercy. When you fought Pika, I could tell you were holding back. Why the fury against Nine?" Sam yelled.

"Easy. Those are pokemon I've seen in my home the Viridian Forest. When I win this tournament, I'm going to use my new influence to protect the forest! New trainers disregard such a place!" Alice yelled.

"So you hate Nine because of where its from? Do you know how I got Nine?" Sam asked.

"No, and I don't care! Throw it now!" Alice yelled. Tangela flipped its vine and Nine flew dead forward at a wall. Nine hit it hard.

"I'm going to take it down, too! Its the kind of pokemon I've seen destroy the forest!" Alice yelled.

"You can't destroy pokemon because they destroy a forest. I know its wrong, but you can't take it out on an innocent pokemon! Let's go! Show 'em your real power! Flamethrower!" Sam yelled. Alice gasped. She obviously thought Ember was the extent of Sam's abilities. A huge gust of flame hit Tangela dead on, but little appeared to happen. Color returned to Alice's face.

"Weak! Use Ingrain!" Alice yelled. A vine slithered into the ground and grabbed hold.

"Great...it can heal now...just wonderful," Sam whispered.

"Now Growth!" Alice yelled. Tangela grew once more. Sam really had to think now. With one attack, he could end this, but it would have to be a huge fire attack. Suddenly, he was brought back to legends. It was said that when Ninetails had their tails lit, they could produce incredibly powerful fire attacks. This was known as the Kyuubi Flame, but it was extremely difficult to perform right. That was the kind of attack he needed now, but would he be able to pull it off?

"Nine! Light up your tails!" Sam yelled. Nine's tails flew in front of its face and a burst of flame followed then. The tails were burning now.

"Nine! I know you might not know how, but use Kyuubi Flame!" Sam yelled. Nine closed its eyes and focused. Sam assumed it was going through its instincts. Suddenly, its tails fell in front of his face and then Nine appared to start building up a huge amount of flame. Everyone in the crow'd eyes opened wide.

"GO! Fire at the Ingrain Vine!" Sam yelled. Nine's eyes flashed red for a second, then it fired a huge jet of flame, bigger than anything Sam had ever seen it use. Alice's face suddenly looked down. It was over. The flame hit, causing huge damage to Tangela, knocking it out almost instantly.

"Tangela is unable to battle! Ninetails wins the match and the battle goes to SAM!" the ref yelled.

"No...I lost..." Alice said.

"Yeah, you may have lost, but you really are a good opponent. That was one of the better matches I've had," Sam said.

"...I guess you're right. That was a good match. I'm glad I got to fight someone like you," Alice said.

"Thanks, you too. Well, I'm out of here. I'm tired..." Sam said, leaving. He dropped into the pokecenter and dropped off all his pokemon to make sure they would all be ready to go tomorrow. Then, he walked up to his room and sat down to think about the day.

Meanwhile, Travis was talking to Professor Oak.

"You failed last time, you know. He's only gotten stronger since," Oak reminded.

"Yeah, but this time I'm gonna use all 6 if I can," Travis replied.

"That's only if you both make it that far," Oak said.

"I plan to. He's not going to beat me this time," Travis said quietly.

"Well, you're going to need luck if you go up against him," Oak said once more.

"Yeah..." Travis said, leaving.

Sam woke up mid morning the next day. The festival had started and he was ready for a great day. His match wasn't until later and he really wanted to enjoy the festavel. Walking out of his hotel room, he was instantly surrounded by people.

"HEY! ITS SAM!" one yelled.

"OH MY GOD!" yelled another.

"Oh just wonderful...fans..." Sam whispered.

"I WANT YOUR AUTOGRAPH!" one screamed.

"I don't do autographs!" he yelled, charging through the crowd. He ran through the hotel and into the pokecenter.

"Ah! Good morning," Nurse Joy said.

"Morning. Everyone ready?" Sam asked.

"But of course! Here you are," she said, handing Sam six pokeballs. Sam clipped them all onto his belt and walked outside. The people had settled down when he ran and he was certain that he'd need to wear something to keep them away. He found the nearest clothing vendor.

"Hey. What do ya need?" the man working it asked.

"A new jacket...something in white. A new hat, preferably aqua blue in color and a pair of black sunglasses," Sam said, thinking what would hide him quickly.

"Okay...I'll be right back," the man said, walking back into an RV. A few minutes later, he emerged carrying a jacket, a hat and sunglasses.

"Great. How much is that?" Sam asked.

"5000 Pokedollars. Take it or leave it," the man said.

"Look. Money's no object, so here," Sam said, handing the guy cash.

"Okay...pleasure doing business with you," the man snickered, running a finger through his cash.

"And with you," Sam said, sighing. These would work well. He found the nearest bathroom and pulled off his jacket and hat. Shoving them in his bag, he put on the new clothes, complete with sunglasses. He liked this new look. It suited him well. Walking back outside, no screaming fans appeared.

"Good...no fangirls this time. Well, time to go have some fun!" he said.

Walking through the festaval, Sam saw a lot of games around him. One in particular caught his eye. An endurance test of three parts. Walking up, a man eyed him.

"Hey! You there, in the white jacket! You look like you'd be perfect for this game! Step right up and try to win a prize! Three TMs to anyone who can finish in under five minutes!" he said.

"Three...TMs?" Sam whispered to himself. That was a big deal. Three TMs was a huge thing to him.

"Yes! Now step right up if you dare! The challenges await! The tower is ready for a new challenger!" he yelled.

"Sure...I'm in. How hard can it be?" Sam asked himself.

"Great! You can take one pokeball with you but you must leave the other five here," the man said.

"Only one...but who...I know!" Sam said, taking Onix's pokeball off his belt and handing it to the man.

"Great, now your goal is to get through the Tower of Challenges in under five minutes! Ready, set...GO!" he yelled. Sam charged off into the tower. Running up steps, he charged through them. Through all this, he realized something. He wasn't moving.

"What the hell?" he whispered to himself. He realized that the stairs below him were moving.

"Oh great...just great..." Sam whispered to himself. He knew how to get past them. He stepped forward and jumped off the stairs. Then, he grabbed a vine hanging from the ceiling which he assumed was a prop. Jumping off it, he kicked off a wall and was at the top of the stairs.

"Good. Eat that, jerk," Sam said, thinking about the guy.

Meanwhile, the man was laughing to himself.

"Five pokemon! And if I hurry, I'll make a clean getaway!" he said. He was about to leave, bue he realized that he was surrounded. He'd need a distraction...an explosion would do. Reaching for a remote, he pressed the tower's self destruct button.

Back inside, Sam was half way up a climbing wall when he heard a boom. It was followed by another and another as he realized what was going on. The tower was exploding!

"Oh god. Why does this always happen to me?!" he yelled. The tower was crumbling now and he'd soon be crushed if he didn't think fast. He knew what he had to do instantly.

"Onix! Help me out with your Screech attack!" he yelled, throwing his pokeball. The huge rock snake appeared and a huge blast of sound flew out of its mouth, breaking a hole in a nearby wall.

"Let's go!" Sam yelled, hopping on Onix's back. Onix slithered out the hole and onto the ground below. Sam looked around for the man and saw nothing. Suddenly, he realized something else. His belt was gone, too!

"YOU JERK! PREPARE TO DIE!" Sam yelled. Onix slithered through the area, parting the crowd instantly. There was only one person who didn't move. The man who had caused all this ruckus.

"Ha! Pathetic child! You'll be done in a minute! Kingler, let's go!" he yelled. A huge crab flew out of the pokeball the man threw out. Sam knew that this was dangerous and wished he had one of his other pokemon.

"Well, no option, huh? Let's use your Rock Throw!" Sam yelled. Onix flicked its tail and a rock flew off, hitting Kingler. Then, a strange thing happened. The rock flew back and attached to Onix's tail. Sam realized what was going on. These rocks were magenetized to Onix and they would fly back to him unless they got really far away.

"Grr! Bubblebeam!" the man yelled. A stream of bubbles flew out of Kingler's claw dead at Onix, but Sam knew what to do.

"Let's go! Get low and then use Bind!" Sam yelled. Onix flattened to the ground, ducking under the attack, then grabbing it with its tail. Then, it crushed it against its body with a large amount of force.

"Damn...use Metal Claw!" the man yelled. Kingler's claws turned white, but it couldn't move to use the attack.

"Aww...don't be mean! Throw it down and use Tackle!" Sam yelled. Onix tossed Kingler to the ground then flew down at it, crushing it under its huge weight.

"You're...weak! Use Mud Shot!" the man yelled. Onix sat there for a second, then something happened. A burst of mud flew up, hitting Onix in the face.

"Now Bubblebeam!" the man yelled. Bubbles followed. Onix was hit with powerful attacks that were super effective against his types.

"Hm...we aren't getting much choice here, are we, Onix?" Sam asked. Onix shook its head.

"Well then...time to finish them off? Let's go! Rock Throw!" Sam yelled. Onix flicked its tail three times. Rocks flew off all three times, hitting Kingler head on each time.

"Grrr! You little fool! Your attacks aren't going to do you anything! Mud Shot!" the man yelled.

"Okay! Let's end this, Screech!" Sam yelled. Onix fired a burst of sound that knocked everything back. Kingler, the attack and the rocks Onix had fired. The mud and rocks hit Kingler at high velocity, crushing it under the huge weight.

"Now finish it! Pound it with your tail!" Sam yelled. Onix slithered forward, then lifted its tail. It then brought it down on Kingler, crushing it. When it moved its tail, Kingler had dissapeared!

"But...how?!" Sam asked, confused.

"You're weak, that's how! Now use Bubblebeam!" the man yelled. More bubbles flew from within the crowd at Onix, but aparently, he was ready. He ducked under them and charged forward.

"Show 'em Tackle!" Sam yelled. Onix collided with Kingler, crushing it.

"Once more! Crush it with your tail!" Sam yelled. Onix crushed Kingler, finishing it this time.

"...return. Charmeleon!" the man yelled. A huge, burgendy lizard appeared out of the pokeball.

"Metal Claw!" he yelled.

"Use your tail to crush it!" Sam said in reply. The attacks collided and both flew back, though Charmeleon flew back much more due to its light weight.

"Use Fire Fang!" the man yelled. Charmeleon flew forward and bit Onix. Nothing seemed to happen for a second, but Charmeleon suddenly flew back, and what appeared to be a tooth fell down to the ground.

"But...how?!" the man yelled.

"Onix is pure rock, genius. Its not going to get hurt by a tooth. Now, the tooth on the other hand..." Sam said.

"I get it! Ember!" the man yelled angerly.

"You're really letting your anger get the best of you. Use Rock Throw," Sam said. The rocks that had just a few moments ago flown back flew off again, heating up due to the flame and colliding with Charmeleon. It flew backwards, injured now.

"Grr! Scratch!" the man yelled. Charmeleon flew forward and hit Onix. Sam was sure this would do little, but Onix flinched. Charmeleon's anger had turned to power.

"Hum...your anger is your greatest asset, yet your greatest weakness. You realize that if you let anger get the best of you, you miss the most obvious traps? Observe...Screech!" Sam yelled.

"DODGE IT, THEN EMBER!" the man yelled back. Charmeleon dodged out of the way, then fired flames at Onix that hit it. Hard. Onix screeched in pain.

"Hm. But you've left yourself wide open. Rock Throw!" Sam yelled. A rock flew at Charmeleon, hitting it on the head. It grabbed its head in pain.

"Now Screech!" Sam yelled. A burst of sound flew out of Onix's mouth once more, knocking Charmeleon back into its master.

"GET IT! Metal Claw!" the man yelled. Charmeleon flew forward, its claws shining.

"And now it ends...bind," Sam said. Onix grabbed and crushed Charmeleon with its claws, restricting all movement.

"Now throw it at its trainer," Sam said. Onix lightly tossed Charmeleon at the man, hitting him. Both flew in opposite directions.

"Now finish it. Crush it!" Sam yelled. Onix brought its tail down once more, crushing Charmeleon. The man returned the pokemon with a sad look on his face.

"Now. Are you going to hand over my pokemon or not?" Sam asked.

"Grr...fine..." the man said, handing Sam the belt with all five pokeballs back.

"Now...I believe I won the prize?" Sam asked, mockingly now.

"What are you talking about?!" the man yelled.

"I got out of your damn tower in under 5 minutes. Now hand me my prize. Three TMs, I believe?" Sam asked.

"I never agree to..." the man started.

"Look, I'll get them somehow. Onix, would you mind?" Sam asked. Onix nodded and picked the man up with his tail.

"Please! I'm used to stuff like this!" the man yelled.

"Shake him," Sam said, sternly. Onix started to shake the man powerfully. Several things fell out of his bag. Eventually, a TM case fell out.

"This should work," Sam said, opening it up. Three TMs were inside. They read Gyro Ball, Dig and Poison Jab.

"Please! Those are my rare TMS!" the man yelled.

"You shouldn't have made the bet if you aren't gonna pay up," Sam said.

"...fine. Take 'em. I'm leaving here...sorry kids!" the man yelled, slipping free of Onix's grip. He grabbed everything but his TM case and charged off in the other direction.

"Hmm...seems as though these belong to me now...I suppose I should go plan for the next round with these new advantages...heh," Sam said, leaving. He walked back to his hotel room and decided to watch the reruns of yesterday's battle while he waited for his next match.

OOC: Yeah, I know you said two, but none of these are really death TMs and I did do a battle for the sake of it. Also, the first and not last appearence of the fangirls! DUN DUN DUN!!!!! And now I'm scared. EVERYONE! FEAR THE RETURN OF THE FANGIRLS!

Nice post Sasuneuchiha. Here's the draw for the next round.

Pokemon League Second Round Draw

"THE DRAW FOR THE SECOND PHASE OF THIS YEARS POKEMON LEAGUE COMPETITION WILL COMMENCE IN ONE MINUTE"

Professor Maple once again took her spot on the balcony overlooking the hall where all the competitors were gathered. She was wearing a big smile on her face, having thoroughly enjoyed her league experience so far. Watching three of her young trainers sucessfully overcome their first round opponents and progress to the next round of the tournament. Jaspers defeat had soured events slightly, but on the whole Maple was happy with how things were going. Of course all five of Oaks kids had won their matches, but Maple figured she couldn't have everything in this world...

She was ever so grateful to her new assistant Matthew, whos offer to oversee the ranch had allowed Maple to come to the Indigo Plateau and see how her young trainers were developing. The success of these young trainers had seen a growth of interest in Maples work, and made the appointment of an assistant possible. Matthew had been far more qualified than any of the other applicants, almost over-qualified...

"PLEASE DIRECT YOUR ATTENTION TO THE BIG SCREEN FOR THE POKEmON LEAGUE SECOND PHASE ICE FIELD DRAW!"

This announcement cut accross Maple's thought stream, and along with every other person in the room she turned to face the screen. After a short study, one match caught her eye:

Warren (Pallet Town) vs Harrold (Fuschia City)

"AND NOW THE DRAW FOR THE WATER FIELD"

After the obligatory scan of the screen, Maple picked a match out:

Ian (Lavender Town) vs Sam (Pallet Town)

"AND NOW THE DRAW FOR THE GRASS FIELD"

Maple once again eagerly scanned the screen but, for the first time in the tournament none of her kids were on screen. It was only now that her attention wasn't focused entirely on the screen that she realised how loud it was down in the hall. Having got over the hurdle, many of the competitors were beginning to dream of glory, and becoming very excitable.

"AND FINALLY THE ROCK FIELD DRAW!"

Maple refocused on the screen, and quickly picked out the match she wanted to:

Robert (Pewter City) vs Sean (Cinabaar Island)

Maple nodded and began to consider if the draw favoured her trainers or not, but her thoughts were once again stopped... this time by Professor Oak walking past her. He gave her a condescending smile and kept walking, infuriating Maple. 'I have to beat him!' she thought, 'I just have to...'

OOC: Did it! Not my best post, admittedly but I don't think it sucks too much

Warren grimaced as his name flashed up under the ice field. This was the one he'd been dreading. The water field was fine - he had Poliwhirl was that. The grass field was just a normal stadium, so that didn't matter. But he had nothing that could work well on the slippery ice without falling over. Haunter was probably his best bet, as he could at least ignore the ice, for the most part. Apparently, his opponent was some guy called Harold...whoever he was. Warren looked at the board again, then gasped as he realised something. His match was due to start in just ten minutes, and he was miles away from the ice field. Cursing under his breath, Warren dashed out of the door and started running.

"This match between Harold Slater of Pewter City and Warren Simmons of Pallet Town is about to begin!" The commentator yelled as the two trainers walked into the stadium. Warren grinned as he realised that Harold was an old geezer, at least sixty with a bald head and a white beard, to match the glistening ice that stood between them. The battlefield was mostly flat, but around the edges, tall points of ice jutted out of the floor into the sky. The referee walked in, flags in hand, as the red and green lights flickered into life under portraits of the two trainers on the huge billboard. The ref glanced both ways.

"Trainers, release your first Pokemon!" Warren's hand went to his pocket.

"Haunter, time for another battle!" The ghost emerged, hovering over the icy floor, looking mildly surprised at being in another battle so soon. Harold nodded.

"Mime Jr., let's go!" Warren raised an eyebrow at the small, rather cute Pokemon. He hated it on sight.

"Alright, begin!" the referee shouted and Warren immediately yelled:

"Haunter, use Nightshade!" At once, Haunter threw a ball of sparking black lightning. Mime Jr. glanced at it, then held out a hand, wreathed in blue light. The projectile froze, then shot back towards Haunter, who flew to the side. The attack smashed into one of the icy spikes, sending slivers of ice flying across the arena. Haunter growled, as did Warren. Confusion was a dangerous move and Harold hadn't even needed to command his Pokemon. Now, though, he opened his mouth.

"Mimic!" he called in a surprisingly strong voice and Mime Jr. grinned, before raising its small hands and forming a Nightshade attack, identical to Haunter's. Swinging its arms, it sent the lightning flying at the ghost. Haunter flew up, but the attack caught its trailing tail and sent the black sparks flying up its back. Haunter spasmed, but managed to steady itself and glared balefully at the miniature mime, who was giggling at it.

"Lick it!" Haunter darted forwards and slapped the surprised enemy across the face with its long, sticky tongue. Mime Jr. stepped back, then twitched, seemingly frozen. Warren grinned. Lick had paralyzed it.

"Now, Sucker Punch!" Haunter, still angry, pulled back a fist before smacking Mime Jr. right in the face. It flew back and managed to stand up, shaking. Harold tipped his head to one side.

"Let's try another Nightshade, but use it on those irritating spikes." Warren frowned as Mime Jr. spun, launching the stolen attack at the pointed pillars of ice, smashing them into thousands of tiny, sharp fragments. Warren frowned. What was the point of that? Harold nodded, smiling faintly.

"Confusion, Mime Jr." Warren realised too late the reason behind the last attack. Haunter didn't, until the tiny, needle sharp fragments of ice rose into the air, completely surrounding the ghost. It growled. Mime Jr. grinned. The ice flew forwards.

Warren grimaced as Haunter let out a piercing shriek, the fragments of ice digging into its body. Slowly, ever so slowly, it drifted to the ground, panting heavily and nearly unconscious. Warren grimaced again. Haunter was sure to bite the dust soon. There was no use leaving him out there.

"Haunter, return!" he yelled and the ghost flew back to its Pokeball, the fragments of ice falling to the floor and tinkling, almost musically.

"Now, Venonat, let's go!" The bug burst out onto the icy field, glancing at the small mime. Warren bit his lip. Venonat wasn't his toughest fighter and it had been in the last battle, but the Bug type had a slight advantage over the Psychic type. Harold sighed, looking a little tired.

"Use that Nightshade again!" Mime Jr. once more conjured up a ballot black lightning, hurling it viciously at Venonat.

"Confusion!" Venonat raised its glowing hands and the attack froze, before flying back at Mime Jr. The pink Pokemon simply raised a hand and a solid barrier appeared out of nowhere, blocking it. Warren grimaced.

"Poison Powder!" Venonat spun, shaking its fur, and a flurry of glistening purple spores drifted off it, toward Mime Jr. Harold nodded.

"Confusion!" The powder froze, before falling straight to the ground. Mime Jr. grinned, then faltered as paws clamped down on its shoulders. Warren grinned.

"Never heard of a diversion, Harold? Leech Life!" Venonat sank its teeth into Mime Jr.'s neck, sucking the energy out of it, seemingly growing stronger as the mime stumbled. Finally, the bug released it and it stumbled forwards, before falling flat on its face. Warren cheered.

"Alright! Who's next, Harry?" The old man sniffed, clearly irritated.

"Don't get too excited. Gastly's up next!" Warren grinned as the swirl of gas burst onto the field.

"Then I'll start with Foresight!" Harold blanched as Venonat's eyes glowed red and Gastly suddenly condensed, looking a lot more solid. One move and Gastly's biggest advantage was already gone.

"Now, Tackle!" Warren grinned as Venonat barrelled into Gastly. Ghosts didn't really have much need to protect against this sort of attack, so their physical defences were shaky, to say the least. Indeed, the ghost winced in pain as it steadied itself, already panting heavily.

"Follow up with Confusion!" Gastly glowed a faint blue, as did Venonat's ands, then flew back into one of the remaining ice pillars, screeching in pain. Warren grinned. Talk about a walkover.

"Gastly, Mean Look!" Gastly transfixed Venonat with an evil stare, but nothing visible seemed to happen. Warren frowned. Why would Harold want to stop him switching.

"Curse!" Oh. That was why. Immediately, Gastly burst into a stream of black gas, flooding the arena and heading towards Venonat.

"Confusion!" Warren yelled desperately, but Venonat's psychic powers had no effect on the toxic gas. Swooping down, the flood sped straight through Venonat, reforming into a very unconscious Gastly on the other side of the arena. Warren grimaced as Venonat hacked and coughed, black smoke trickling from its mouth. Now he was forced to leave Venonat in there, just waiting to faint. At least he only had one more Pokemon to deal with.

"Cloyster, let's go!" Warren frowned. After a ghost and a mime, a shellfish seemed a bit out of place. Nevertheless, it looked tough.

"Venonat, start with Poison Powder!" Warren yelled and Venonat spun, sending a flurry of toxic powder at the shellfish. It clammed up, but a few trickles of the powder still seeped in and Warren heard an echoing cough. He grinned, but Venonat was looking pretty rough too – the Curse was doing its work.

"Aurora Beam!" Venonat froze – literally. A beam of white light had transfixed it and ice was creeping over it. Warren gasped as it became completely imprisoned. Harold grinned.

"Toxic Spikes!" Cloyster spat out a few sharp, venom-coated needles which shattered the ice. Venonat, finally freed, slumped to the floor, defeated. Warren grimaced, but he had a plan. Or rather, he had Harold's plan.

"Haunter, let's go! Curse!" The ghost burst out of the ball, already looking tired. Raising one of its claw like hands, it winced, then thrust the nails right into its own body. A gaseous, black, blood-like substance flowed out, streaming into Cloyster's shell. It winced as the deadly substance flowed through its body, but grinned upon seeing the unconscious Haunter drifting to earth. Warren bit his lip, returning the ghost. He only had one Pokémon left, but Cloyster was poisoned and cursed. Surely it couldn't last long. Especially not against…

"Elekid!" The small pronged Pokémon burst onto the field, spinning its arms and grinning at the hiding shellfish. Without waiting for an order, Elekid fired a jet of lightning at Cloyster. The shellfish flew back, sparks playing across its hard shell, groaning deeply.

"Aurora Beam!" Elekid ducked, but the beam brushed his feet and ice encased them, sticking him to the ice. Cloyster grinned, then fired off another few Toxic Spikes that dug into Elekid's flesh. Harold grinned.

"Finish it! Aurora Beam!" The tired Cloyster faced Elekid, then fired off another beam of white light. Elekid desperately spun its arms and lightning erupted out of its prongs. The two attacks collided and a massive explosion tore through the stadium. Warren sheltered his face as chips of ice flew in every direction, then glanced down and gasped. Cloyster was lying on its side, definitely unconscious. Elekid was still standing, fixed in place by its icy bonds.

"And the victory goes to Warren Simmons of Pallet Town!"

"YES!" Warren shouted, grinning widely. Harold, at the other end of the arena, merely returned Cloyster and turned to leave. Elekid turned its head to face Warren, pointing at its feet. Warren grinned.

"Return Elekid!" Still smiling, Warren looked at the crowd, cheering him. He was close. So close. With this team, there was no way he could lose!

Chapter 7~ First Round, First Battle. Last Round, Last Battle.

Jasper stood, on a battlefield once more, facing a younger kid, about ten yeras old, named Tony. In front of Tony stood his Seel, and in front of Jasper was Ditto. It was the first match of the Pokemon league, and Jasper, very excited, had been put on the Water field. The water field was a massive, deep, pool with a few small, square, white docks in it, for Pokemon who couldn't swim. Jasper hoped he would get lucky, and get a water type so he could be out at an advantage, or, up to par with Seel.

"You'll do brilliant." Jasper whispered to Ditto, who smiled. "Just do your own thing." Ditto nodded and turned back to the battle.

"PARTCIPANTS, GET READY! SET! BATTLE!" Ditto glowed a bright white light, and started gettng flatter, something growing out of his mouth. The other trainer looked puzzled.

"How did it do that!?" He shouted, but Ditto- or the new, purple shell-like Pokemon, with a tongue sticking out of it, that Jasper realized was a Shellder- had already lunged, a green bubble around it. The Seel dodged, and Tony returned to the battle. "Close one! Now, Headbutt!" By now, Shellder was jumping from platform to platform, pausing briefly on each one. While Shellder was paused, Seel attacked. Or tried to, as it bounced off of what Jasper new was a Protect.

"But, what is Shellder doing?" Jasper thought, as Shellder jumped and paused on the last platform, Seel still trying to Headbutt him. Jasper got his answer soon enough. Suddenly, the first platform split open, a whirlpool now where it had been. The others cracked too, all of the empty places now holding whirlpools.

"What! That's impossible!" Tony shrieked. "Shellder doesn't learn that until level 37, and the information on my computer said that your Ditto is level 20!" Jasper was just as puzzled as Tony. How could Ditto use Whirlpool, let alone under the platforms? But his mind was quickly back in the battle, axs he realized in shock what was happening. Shellder's Protect was up once more, and the whirlpools were growing, merging, forming together-into one big whirpool. There was no escape for Seel, as the whirlpool whipped him around, threw him in the air, crashed him against the sides of the pool. "NO!!!!!" Tony shrieked again, and it was done. Seel lay, at the bottom of the pool, knocked out, the water back to normal.

Tony yelled. His Pokemon was drowning, sunk at the bottom of the pool. Two workers ran onto the field, jumping into the pool, all the while Jasper's head spinning. How had it happened? How did his Ditto almost kill a Pokemon, by using a move that the Pokemon he had magically transformed into didn't learn for another seventeen levels. Jasper thought back to win he first recieved Ditto, from that odd, cloaked man who had saved him in the Safari Zone. And then, realization struck Jasper like lightning.

"HIM!" Jasper shouted, and in a flash of red, Ditto was back in it's Pokeball, and Jasper was running towards the door, back to the lobby. Once he was in the lobby, he turned, running down the hall to the battler's lounge. There, he spotted it. A battler locker, one of the locker's for the particpants. He ran to it, and flung it open, placing five pokeballs inside- every one of his Pokemon besides Ditto- and shut the door, turning and running back into the lobby, and out the set of double doors, huge, oak double doors. The locker stood, cracked open, on the front, on a white sticker, a name.

Participant Number 203- Warren Simmons

@Screw The Rules - I thought it was a decent post, nothing wrong with it :)

Congratulations Venonat grew to Level 20
Congratulations Haunter grew to Level 28 and learned Payback
Congratulations Elekid grew to Level 20 and learned Shock Wave

@King! - Interesting... very interesting. Can't wait to see how this pans out :)

The second part of the league was about to begin, and Sean was on the Rock field, standing right infront of a boy named Robert. Sean didn't think he looked so tough, but it wasn't the looks that counted. He certainly looked confident.
The audience were all gathered on the stand at the side of the rock field, that looked as if it had came from the stone age. There were so many boulders and cracks in the ground that they had to watch out from hitting them and causing damage.
Robert was looking at Sean, looking very ready and waiting to begin. Before sending out a Pokemon, he had something to say.
"The last guy who I faced was easy. I'm just warning you that things will be no harder here." while sounding rather full of himself, Sean didn't care. Matter of fact he could say the same.
"Well so was mine. I sent him depressed to how he lost miserabley. I hope you can handle depression more than he can." the audiance were getting excited to see where this could go, but there weren't even any Pokemon sent out yet. Robert had already chosen and got a PokeBall out.
"Hmm. Right. Mankey, come on out!" Robert threw the PokeBall to the rocky floor and had burst out a really hyperactive monkey, also known as Mankey. This was a really strong Fighting-type that had a really strong Karate Chop, so Sean indeed did have to watch out.
Since Robert had sent out his Pokemon, Sean was going to do the same. In this battle, he was going to choose the Pokemon he had not used in the last battle, beginning with the one who was the least strongest out of them all. He got the PokeBall out.
"Horsea! Show 'em!" after throwing the ball to the ground, Horsea came out, levitating above the ground on its crystal clear wings, looking ready to put up a strong fight.
Both Pokemon were strong, and probably evenly matched, but they had to wait and see first. Each Pokemon had a diverse selection of moves to use, and Sean had no clue which one to start off with. Then, it came to his head that there was a more than appropriate move to use at the beginning.
"Start off with a Smokescreen!" getting further into the league, Sean had to do the best he could and use most of his strongest techniques - this was one of his best so that Mankey's attacks would have a less chance of hitting, making things so much easier for Sean. It didn't take long for Horsea to begin to shoot out one inky blob that shot across theair leaving drops behind. Then the ball had hit Mankey right in its eyes, causing several clouds to crowd its space and blackout its eyes. Mankey kept jumping in panic, as it was very neurotic and reactive.
"Oh come on! That won't work at all!" Robert was in denial of the Smokescreen and could only see that Mankey was still the same.
"You'll be suprised." Sean was used to people who never listened, such as Nathen who was his last opponent that was sent away in depression. Either way, Robert knew what to do.
"Yeah. I'll believe that... Mankey! Use Karate Chop!" this was Mankey's strongest attack, and Robert was prepared to use it at the start of the battle, however there was a chance that it could miss and Sean knew that this was totally possible because of Smokescreen. Mankey ran over to Horsea who was floating above the ground with its eyes closed, feeling relaxed and calm. Then, due to Mankey's dodgey eyesight, Mankey slanted off into a direction, and then ended up Karate Chopping a rock. Luckily for Robert, because the Karate Chop was quite strong, Mankey's hand was not hurt at all, but neither was Horsea who hadn't even noticed a thing. Not even reacted in any way. Sean smiled. He was now ready to carry on with another strategy.
"Now, use Focus Energy!" this was also a good idea to use at the beginning, as Focus Energy would raise the cahnces of Horsea making a critical hit, and that was exactly the kind of thing that Sean would need to really bag himself a victory. Horsea reopened its eyes to look at Mankey who was still acting like it was a 1 year old, and then concentrated its mind very hard on it. There were orange sparks flying from Horsea's body showing that there was some strong energy in Horsea's mind. Fianlly, when Horsea had enough focus on Mankey, the sparks stopped flying and Horsea levitated above the ground at normal speed again, looking elegant.
"Good luck with trying to get a critical hit." Robert still couldn't understand Sean's strategies as they all were based on luck, but after only one he still didn't even care. He was going to try again with another attack, hoping it would not miss this time.
"Use Scratch!" while not being as strong as Karate Chop, it had a little more accuracy so it would have a better chance of hitting. Straight away, Mankey ran off on both of its very slim and boney legs, and had this time travelled in the right direction towards Horsea without going the wrong way. Then, Mankey pointed out its hand towards Horsea, before swiping its incredibly sharp nail onto Horsea' delicate body. The attack wasn't as strong as it could have been, but it was a decent start. And, atleast it had hit this time.
"Is that it?" Sean was expecting Mankey had much better attacks that would do more damage.
"Oh, it's not. I'm leaving that until the fun starts." Robert smiled, making it look as if he had a trick up his sleeve. Sean knew what to do next.
"Right... anyway, Horsea, use Water Gun!" this time, since Sean's strategy was completely set up, it was time to attack with some of Horsea's best. While not exactly being the best, Water Gun had a very good attack power. Right away, Horsea turned to Mankey and gathered up a lot of water inside its mouth, more than it could hold into its own body. Then, Horsea blasted this massive volume of water in the direction of Mankey, which had then smaked Mankey right in every weak spot. This wasa an effect of Focus Energy, that forced Mankey to the ground. This goes to show that Focus Energy really could do some good, and Robert was proved wrong. Moving on, and Robert was ready to do his attack.
"You got lucky! Mankey, fight back with Low Kick!" this attack was a little twisted, since the attack power was mainly based upon Horsea's weight, which wasn't very much - although, this wouldn't matter that much as it was still quite a strong attack, regardless. Mankey started to run off to Horsea, once again running in the right direction as the Smokescreen was starting to lose effect a little bit. Then, Mankey approached Horsea and made one side kick on Horsea's lower body, sending it flying before hitting the ground. The damage did not come from the kick, but mainly came from the crash to the ground.
Sean was still winning, even at the halfway point by just using one attack, and he was going to do the same, with his fingers crossed for another critical hit. This time, by not using Water Gun.
"And now, use Bubblebeam!" this was Horsea's strongest attack, and a critical hit would soar Sean into the lead with Robert having even more catching up to do. Right away, Horsea once again gathered up some water in its throat before turning them into lots of bubbles, before shooting them all out rapidly. Each bubble to hit Mankey felt like a bullet, which was a strong feeling that could cause some damage. The bubbles had stopped being shot, and Mankey felt battered by the bubbles and could only just keep itself on its feet for now. Robert had it.
"Damn, looks like I really do have competition after all. You must be easier than the last guy." Robert lifted his eyebrows, trying to think of a good move to get Sean back for that strong Bubblebeam. It was going to be tough, but there was a lot to use. There was one move that was worth a shot.
"But still - Mankey, use Seismic Toss!" once again, this was a twisted move. The amount of damage dealt was equivalent to the level of the user. In this case, Mankey's level (which Sean didn't know) would be the amount of damage done to Horsea. Not so much, but like Low Kick it was likely that there could be damage done when it hits the ground. Mankey started to run after Horsea, its eyes feeling the way they should be. Then, Mankey grabbed Horsea with both arms and made a huge jump right into the air. The audience gasped as they all had their eyes set on them, before Mankey then threw Horsea to the ground as if the sky was falling. Smack. Horsea hit the ground and the damage done was collosal. Luckily, it could get back up and float back off the ground, but hitting it was what made the damage. Sean knew that he had to carry on with what he was doing or else it could happen again, or he may not be lucky.
"Use Water Gun, again, Horsea!" Sean was confident that this attack would hit and probably win, but he was thinking too soon. It would probably take more than one attack to knock Mankey out, but with Focus Energy from earlier on there was a chance that the attack would be critical. Horsea gathered up water into its body, until it was full and had then shot out the entire contents at an even faster speed. The water hit Mankey's body, feeling like a razor was cutting it. The water had stopped shooting out of Horsea's mouth, and Mankey was shivering in pain. This pain was weakening Mankey by the minute, as it kept making noises and moaning.
"You haven't won yet!" Robert persuaded Sean that he still had a chance.
"I almost have." Sean smiled, knowing how close he was to ending the first battle with Robert. However, the end was far in Robert's mind.
"Don't bet on it! Mankey, use Scratch!" it probably would have been a better idea for him to use one of Mankey's stronger moves, but he didn't care. He believed that Mankey was going to return a strong hit. Mankey ran up to Horsea, but before scratching, Horsea quickly ducked after Mankey jumped to scartch it. So, Mankey's nail ended up getting embedded into the rocky floor, very painful. Robert shook his head in shame, noticing that Mankey was the wrong Pokemon to use.
"Uh oh..." Robert didn't want to lose this part of the battle, as it shown that he was not strong enough even with his tougher Pokemon if Sean's are this tough. Sean smiled in luck, and was confident that Horsea would finsih Mankey off.
"Great! Horsea, use one final Bubblebeam!" Sean was ready to see himself win another battle, even if it was just the start. Horsea once again began gathering lots of water into its body, before turning the entire contents into bubbles. Then, the bubbles had burst out of Horsea's tubular mouth in a straight Direction towards Mankey, who was lazy and couldn't be bothered to move. Plus, it was in too much pain to even notice a thing. The bubbles had came slapping Mankey's face, arms, legs, and pretty much every part of its body. The pain of each bubble was too much to bare, and Horsea had stopped shooting the bubbles as Mankey was now knocked out. Sean had won this part of the battle.
"Mankey, you ashamed me." rather than making Mankey feel better, he just turned away in shame and returned Mankey into the PokeBall. As for Sean, there were different emotions.
"Yeah! You did it!" Sean returned Horsea after congratulating it. The crowd were loving this and had made a loud cheer, they must love the way Sean battled more than Robert. Natasha was there, looking really proud of him, and cheering more than anyone else. They wanted to see the next part of the battle, and it took a couple of seconds to rest, before then thinking about it.
