Another Weekly Poll down the line! n_n

Do you like the changes B/W has brought to the Pokémon Games?

Such as full motion in battles, camera angle changes in and out of battles, the seasonal changes (also having the wait for winter to access certain areas), and the sheer height of base stats in a good chunk of the region's Pokemon, what do you think about it all? The latter's change is even going to where Smogon is calling older generation Pokemon "worthless". However, what are your opinions and thoughts on the changes?

    Discuss away!

Despite playing the games already and reaching the end, I always find myself in complete awe every time I turn the game on. The changes from the Game Freak logo, to the season screen before the game loads, to the C-Gear at the bottom of the screen all the way to the major changes like full-motion in battle.. I'm amazed at all of it. No matter how many times I play I find myself there staring off in splendor. ^w^

The seasons give this new generation of Pokemon a wonderful environmental feel. It's such an amazing feature to have. <3 Spring was the season the game started in for me when I received my copy. Spring is the new beginning of everything for the new year, the grass, the flowers, the trees bursting back into bloom after the long winter hibernation to start a new life. It was a perfect representation of the new adventure that laid in wait when I began my adventure in White. As time passed and the seasons changed all the way up to winter, I got to experience all of it to where I got to -watch- the seasons change, and I really felt that satisfied feeling you get after achieving something big. My achievement being that I was reaching the end of my in-game journey. I could actually -see- the effects of all of that time and work through the seasons. There's nothing like it in the Pokemon series right now, and it's really made me appreciate B&W so much~.

Camera angles in and out of battle, as well as the full-bodied movement for the Pokemon in-battle, helps to heighten that feeling of being there in that world. It brings me into the game more than I've felt with past generation games because of all the liveliness going on everywhere. Camera angles being the perspective changes like we experience here in real life, and full motion as we see in the Pokemon anime and how we would see it in real life. It makes the battles and the world so much more interesting, and has made grinding actually fun to do. Yes, I said it. Grinding is fun in B&W. <3

Although I may not agree with all of what Smogon said about the past generation Pokemon, I do feel that there is an immense change in the metagame thanks to generation 5. For me it isn't a very negative change, but a positive one for changing up the old normalities in battle. Thanks to all of the peaked stats that a good number of the new Pokemon have, it's made the regulars of the metagame become more strategic and has made them utilize Pokemon you wouldn't expect. I'm really happy with Game Freak too for giving the older Pokemon some love to match up to the new ones ; The Dream World. It has been an amazing change to the metagame too with it's twist on all the Pokemon we know and love. Now it's become more difficult to keep track of Pokemon because they can easily have a different ability you wouldn't expect that came from the Dream World. It's made the competitive thinking even more complex, and more fun! :]

Tl;dr ; I adore every single major change that B&W has brought to the Pokemon series. They have done a great job. ^.^

These are all steps forward, if you ask me.

I simply can't imagine any future Pokémon games without the things BW has added, and more will most likely be added after that.
The seasons are rather experimental, and it might not return in every game in the future, but I like it.
And I'm glad TMs are infinite, They've got other things to balance it out.

Overall, these things could need minor changes and revamps, which will most likely be provided. But as it is now I'm happy with the changes.

I absolutely love the changes they made.

I am excited most for the Pokemon's movements during battle, along with triple battles. Also I can't wait for other new features such as seasons, the new pokemon of course, the 3D angles, etc.

So yeah, I am happy and excited for these changes :)

I love all the new ideas and features brought into Black and White. The sprite animations, the seasons, and the fact that they de-capitalized the Pokemon names.

I don't really mind. The changes (most) are great, but changes are always made in every new generation. D/P had new and improved graphics for the new console and had stuff like new HM's, interactions with objects (like Veilstone gym), Snowpoint was snowing and has blizzards on occasions, the Underground was added, new Key Items like the Poke Radar, and that interactive park in Hearthome City. R/S had the really cool addition of Dive and again new and improved graphics, pokemon contests, hideouts, new bikes with cool functions etc. So for B/W it is only expected that it gets even better with cool new stuff. So I wasn't surprised about new features.

I am really pleased with the new features in Black and White. It gets me really excited for some of those features to be used in future games. Full motion battles is a huge step in my opinion. Different camera angles, espically when used in battle is a GREAT feature. Kudos to GameFreak.

I was supposed to go for the third option...

Anyway, I love the new changes implemented in B/W, particularly the moving sprites, camera angles and higher base stats. The only change I hate is waiting till winter to get certain Pokemon.

Like the other people have said, I am most impressed with the graphical content of the game. I also like that the Gyms and stuff like that have some theme to it, whether it be Dent, Pod and Cornn's gym and café double, or Aloe's gym and museum combo. It's all good for the heart of the Pokemon game, which I think will be great progress towards newer games in the future, and sets quite a high standard.

I'm also really liking the Battle Subway, mind you me being a Battle Frontier addict and all, but I think it's really good. I like the idea of different lines for different things, depending on what Pokemon you can use, and how many Pokemon you can use. I think it's really cool.

I agree :) I'm pretty excited about the full motion battles and new camera angles.

Although I haven't played the games yet, I got more excited from just reading this thread :3 I didn't know that the TM's were reusable! :o Also, the seasons is something I'm looking forward to so much, especially getting my own Bambi (I dunno his name >.<) on my team and watching his form change with the seasons :3 And I'm really excited to see the new features/additions to the battle frontier, or whatever it's called in B&W. Overall I'm always excited for a new generation to come out. And of course, we can't forget the new Pokemon! <3 Just battling and seeing new Pokemon that I've never encountered before makes me excited. :)

I think B/W is a big update in the Pokemon franchise. I mean we got better battle mechanics, graphics, areas! I'm really excited to explore the huge city! The one where Arti is the gym leader.

I think Pokemon Black and White are the BEST EVER made Pokemon game- their graphics are awesome, the soundtracks and storyline are epic too! The character designs are the BEST!!!! N is ADORABLE!! Bel is cute, Cheren, Touko/White and Touya/Black are cute too!!!!!!! XD

Well... I like the changes in BW. It made it stand out after all the time in the 4th generation! I welcomed the changes - to me, it was more like, improvements, both minor and major. These improvements contribute a lot to the experience. New Pokémon, new battle modes, new connectivity, new story... gotta love them all!

I don't get the hype about the constantly animated sprites. To be honest, I'd rather the well animated sprites that were in the Gen IV games than the relatively sub-par (apart from a few, such as Reshirams, Zekroms and Braviarys, which are fantastic) but looping animations in Gen V.

The other things like the moving camera in and out of battle, seasons, triple battles etc, are all fantastic. However, I don't think they were really used as well as they could have been. To a degree i can understand why, but I don't think the seasons had a big enough impact on the landscape as they should have and triple/rotation battles are severely underused, especially if you note what a massive opportunity the Sanyou trio was to exploit and show off this new feature. Hopefully these things were just held back for the third version rather than just ignored.

Yeah, I really do like the changes, it's nothing like any of the other Pokémon games, as stated in ONM "After years of upgrades and remakes, it promises the biggest changes since the series began" and that quote is true from what I've experienced so far.

Some updates are a step forward (moving sprites, a story which breaks the Pokemon-mold, reusable TMs), but most seem like a step back (no perma-run button, bottom DS screen not utilized fully, very linear map, no Battle Frontier, Musicals not as enjoyable as Contests or Pokeathlon.)

Overall, it was just another Pokemon game for me.
