Story:
In the year 2022 the virtual reality helmet, NerveGear, is invented. With this helmet users will be able to control their in-game character with their minds and experience gaming on a new level. It is also the same year that the new Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Game (VRMMORPG) is released, Sword Art Online. Many beta-testers have tested this game before it was brought on the market and they were very excited about it. There are only 10.000 copy's of the game and 1000 are given away to the beta-testers for free.
On November 6, 2022, all 10.000 gamers found out that the log-out button had dissapeared. The reason behind this glitch was revealed on that same day when everyone was transported to an unknown location on the first floor of the game and were informed by an unknown man in a robe. This man turned out to be Kayaba Akihiko, the creator of Sword Art Online. Kayaba told the players that if they wished for freedom then they had to beat the boss on the 100th floor. There was one condition, everyone's levels were resetted to 1 and if they happened to die within the game then their real brains would be fried by the NerveGear. Kayaba Akihiko gave everyone a gift at the end of his speech, this turned out to be an item called "Hand Mirror" and turned everyone into their real life appearences, height and weight included. At the beginning of the game the NerveGear detected your real life appearence and that's why such a thing could happen.
Around 2000 players died in the first month due to reckless acting and disbelief in Kayaba's words. Players created guilds to explore the dungeons. There are a few lead guilds and lots of small ones but everyone has the same goal: Reaching the 100th floor and win the game.
There are guilds who have been doing criminal things like murder and robbing. The ones murdering are called "Player Killers" and must be arrested as soon as possible because if they kill players in the game they kill them in real life as well. There are some Solo-players as well but there is a limit for Solo-playing as the bosses become to strong for them at a certain point.
There are also players being called "beaters". It's a name made from two words "cheaters" and "beta-testers". Beta-testers are being looked down at and mostly hated because lots of players see them as the reason that a lot of players are died already.
"They could've shared the information that they have with us!"
You:
You are one of those 10.000 players who was able to get one of the copies of Sword Art Online. You are either a beater, a normal player or a PK'er (Player Killer). You have played the game a few times before the log-out button dissapeared and know a little bit about how the things works. The beaters know more about the game than the normal players and PK'ers, however.
You are in the game for one months now so you certainly had the time to level up, create skills and to find out about your sword arts. Sword Arts can be unlocked by every 10 levels and you start with two, you can have up to six Sword Arts. You gain levels by defeating monsters or getting experience points in quests. The GM's decide when you gain a level untill they found a proper level system.
Player killers are only able to kill in battles. Normally the battle ends once one of the battling players HP hits the yellow zone, but player killers are able to keep attacking until the player dies. Player killers can also sleep kill, this means that when a player is sleeping outside the safety zone the player killer can send a battle request to the player and make him accept it by making the players finger touch the "accept" button. Safety zones are towns, villages etc.
You have a screen name and a real name. In the game only your screen name is shown and it's your own choice if you want to tell someone your real name. You all start with basic equipment and you're able to get new clothes once you finish quests or killed a boss monster.
> Boy's starters equipment

Marriage System:
Sword Art Online has a marriage system, this is only in-game ofcourse. When two people really love each other they can choose to marry, this just means that you'll share an inventory together. So when you obtain a certain item, your Wife/Husband is also able to equip it, sell it or trade it. This is just a matter of trust though.
You can also marry when you don't love each other and are just friends, but people will always assume that you love each other. When couples choose to marry they can get the wedding ring in a quest that will be set up by the GM's, usually the men are the ones able to do this quest so that they can propose to their girlfriends.

You can have more skills when leveling up. The GM's decide when you can get a new skill. Magic doesn't exist in Sword Art Online and the limit of skill slots is 12.
Skills may be leveled up to 1000 to be concidered mastered, everyone starts with skill level 1. Extra skills are locked untill the GM's inform everyone that they have been enabled. Some Extra skills can be enabled in quests.

- Floor 1 - Town of Beginnings
Spoiler:
The first floor is one of the largest floors in Sword Art Online, contianing three villages: Town of Beginnings, Tolbana Town and Horunka Town.
You can live in one of the towns when you have enough money for a house. An avarage house in Tolbana and Horunka village is 100.000 Col (money in Sword Art Online) and has no furniture until you buy them. Every house is just as big on the first floor.
Town of Beginnings is in the Northwest of the first floor, you can't live there but the teleport to the second floor is located there. The Teleport can't be used untill the real teleport is found which is located somewhere in the dungeons on the first floor. Town of Beginnings is not recognized as a real village. Starting City does have an useful marketplace, however.
Tolbana Town is the largest village on the second floor. It's the closest town to the first floor dungeon since it's only 30 minutes away from it. Tolbana town is located in the west side of the first floor. Tolbana Town has several bars and restaurants, 3 inns and lots of NCP houses which can't be bought. It has 5 buyable houses. Tolbana also has several fountains and an amphitheatre-like meeting place. Its main plaza is known as «Fountain Square».
Horunka Village is the second townon the first floor. It's rather small compared to Town of Beginnings and Tolbana Town. It has one inn and no bars or restaurants. It has a lot of NCP houses and only 1 buyable house. Horunka Village lies to the northeast of Town of Beginnings.
- Floor 2 - Urbus
Spoiler:
The second floor of SAO mainly has mountainous topography. The terrain is rocky, full of hills and not particularly diverse. Most of the landscape is predominantly flat-topped mountains, which are topped with lush green grass. It is primarily inhabited by large ox-type monsters. There are only two villages on the second floor. The main settlement of the second floor is the town, Urbus. The other village is called Marome.
The background music for the second floor is more sorrowful in tone (oboe music) than the string orchestral music the first floor. The NPCs also have subtle differences in their garments.
Urbus is the main city settlement on the second floor. It's about 300 meters in diameters. The appearance is the it seems to be created from a crater from the mountainous region. Like all district settlements, Urbus has a main street which runs north-south. The Town Square is elevated, and on it is the 2nd Floor Teleport Gate. The buildings in Urbus are all relatively of the same height, so it is possible to jump from rooftop to rooftop. Urbus contains a few houses that are buyable and several inns. The houses are about 90.000 col but are fairly small. The inns are quite large and it has local bathrooms meaning that you have to share it.
Marome is a small village about three kilometers southeast of Urbus. Its shops lack variety in wares, and it has no NPC blacksmith. There is only one inn in this village with local bathrooms as well. Players that don't like to be around others can get at peace here.
The lone tree is the biggest tree on the second floor. This place if perfect for romantic dates or grinding because the monsters there only attack when you attack first. This tree seems to have small lights at night but those are actually small indangerous monsters that sit on the tree at night and lit up. The lone tree is located near a dungeon, 5 kilometers in the north of Urbus.
The hot spring is located near the second dungeon on the second floor and only 2 kilometers to the west from Marome. You can easely relax here without the fear of being attacked by monsters because monsters don't get near this hot spring.
The first dungeon is located 5 kilometers in the north of Urbus and is mainly plains. The only monsters around here are ox-type monsters like Mini-Tauros's and Buffalo's. You can also find Salamander warriors and Four Eyed Frogs here.
The second dungeon is located 2 kilometers in the west of Marome. It's a rather small dungeon with low-leveled monsters. You can find some ingredients for cooking, forging and crafting here.
Floor 3 - Forest of Wavering Mist
Spoiler:
The forest of wavering mist is exactly as it sounds like. It's colder than on the previous floors and a the wavering mist makes it hard to see through. While the mist won't fade until afternoon, it still looks scary to pass through. There are a few monsters like Salamander warriors and Mantis knights. The Teleport to the second floor is next to a large tree in the center of the floor's map.
This floor is not recommended to players below level 12 as there are no towns or safety zones on this floor.
Floor 4- Lobria, Lobria Teleport Gate Plaza
Spoiler:
Lobria is a large japanese-themed town. It has 4 inn's to stay in, 3 buyable houses around 50.000 col and 7 restaurants owned by NPC's. In the center of the town is another teleport that teleports you to the fifth floor, however, this teleport can't be used until January 1st 2023 for some reason.
Lobria is a great town for festival activities and shopping. There are lots of markets around and NPC shops. There is even an empty building that can be used for a player store.
There are no forests or caves around Lobria as it's surrounded by a large wall.
