The Mana Cage: a fantasy RP (IC)

The judge used his telekinetic spell to bring the stack of pages over. "Mr. Crown," the judge said to the necromancer in chains at the other end of the room, "after examining the evidence, the court deems you guilty. You had no right to be using necromancy, and you certainly shouldn't have used it in an attempt to capture the kingdom. You will now go and be forced to live the rest of your life in the Mana Cage. Any final words before leaving?"
Mr. Crown smiled. "Yes," he said, "when I get out, I will kill you all."
The judge frowned. "I see only one flaw in that plan: you won't be getting out. Take him away!" A bunch of men in crystal armor grabbed Mr. Crown and took him to the carrage.
It was only a few days before they arrived. The carrage pulled up in front of the enormous prison, were the most dangerous magicians were kept. The crystal knights through Mr. Crown into the building, then shut the gates. Mr. Crown stood up and looked around. A bunch of guards walked over to him. "Come with us," they said, "it's time you see your new home."

The World

Othlond was in turmoil before the Mana Cage was built. Because of the fact that they had no place to keep dark sorcerers, they had to kill anyone who was practicing dark magic rather than lock them away. Which was rather unfortunate, because some of the people practicing dark magic had to be killed even if they didn't do anything wrong.
That was why they built the Mana Cage.
The Mana Cage was an enormous prison that was charmed so that you couldn't use magic in it. That way, they could keep prisoners in the Mana Cage rather than kill them. Peace was finally restored. People were a lot calmer when there weren't violent executions daily. Of course, now it's time for a new batch of prisoners to be thrown inside.

Your Role
As some of you may have guessed, you don't play as a guard of the Mana Cage, nor a civilian, or even one of those crystal knights you saw earlier. You play as one of the most recent prisoners in the Mana Cage. You play as someone who was practicing dark magic, or maybe even just someone who commited a regular crime and was locked in because you knew magic. The choice is yours.

"Raffolk Cyne," said the judge, "we have examined the evidence. We have multiple people accusing you of the use of dark alchemy, and we know a Void Man was summoned by it's use. So, we ask you this Cyne, did you, or did you not, use dark alchemy?"
Cyne smiled. Not a sinister smile, or an evil grin, just a normal, cheerful smile. "Yes sir," Cyne said in a chipper voice.
The judge sighed. He really didn't think that this man could be even remotely guilty. He seemed to have a few mental disorders, and didn't seem to terrible. However, he was guilty, he himself confessed it. And so, Jarold Walling, the judge, had to do his job.
"Well then," the Jarold said, "you are guilty of using dark alchemy. The court has no choice but to sentence you to live a 2-month long sentence in the Mana Cage. Do you have anything to say Raff?"
"Can I keep my book?" Cyne said.
Jarold blinked. "Excuse me?"
Cyne dragged a massive book onto the table. The book was labeled, "Dark Alchemy: Madness is an Art".
Jarold paled. "Fine. You can bring your 'book' to the Mana Cage. But be warned, if you are caught using that twisted magic again, we'll increase your sentence. Now, take him away."
A number of men in crystal armor walked over to him, and escorted him to his carriage.

Cyne sat smiling in the carriage, watching out the window. There were a number of other prisioners within the carriage, but Cyne just ignored them. He lifted up his book and started reading it. Although the prisoners gave him odd looks, none of them had the balls to say an eight foot tall badass couldn't read his book.
"We're here," one of the guards said.
Cyne made a large, cheesy grin, and walked out of his carriage.
The inside of the Mana Cage looked, well, surprisingly it looked beautiful. The walls glistened as an after effect of the magic spell that sealed the prison. There were hundreds of people walking around within, and an enormous amount of guards and stone golems to make sure a riot didn't happen. The sun shined bright through the crystal roof, and the floor and tables were surprisingly clean. Cyne smiled. The other prisoners, however, didn't seem so happy for some reason.
A guard walked over to them. He handed them each a card that had a list of schedules, jobs, and room numbers. "Each of those say where you need to go and sleep at night. Read them carefully," said the guard. Cyne smiled and walked to his room.






Now, that's the first post. Basically, what you need to do to start is simply walk in and introduce yourself to other players, go to your cell, take a look around, etc. Hope that helps :)

As the officers dragged Tesserain into the court handcuffed, she smirked and the jury that were already whispering. They were probably saying to themselves, how can an innocent looking girl like that could torture her parents by kidnapping them, especially using dark magic? How could someone like that be so cruel? Maybe they did something to her before? Chatter began to sprout from the people present as they pointed and looked in awe at her. She watched everything happen in front of her emotionless. Just because she looked innocent does not mean she wants to be so. She was taken to stand next to her lawyer, who was probably the only person that knew who she was. After all, his job was to defend her. She looked at the other side, and saw her prosecutors, who today stand as her enemy. As more chatter came upon the court, Tesserain sighed.

"You know," her lawyer whispered to her. "Everyone thinks your innocent. Use that to your advantage if you don't want to stay in the Mana Cage forever. Lying won't be hard in this case."

She sighed even more. It would be beneficial to manipulate them; the odds after all were all in her favor. But, she decided, staying in the Mana Cage won't be all that bad. After all, she was sort of curious of what was that place all about. Sure it could block out her magic, but that's not the only thing she had. Before she could say something, the judge had strolled in and instantly grabbed his hammer and slammed it to silence everyone.

"So Miss Kendra, can you remind everyone why we are here today?"

The prosecutor rose and jumped into the summary of the whole case; Tesserain Barren, a young 20 year-old girl, kidnapped her own parents to torture them with dark magic, apparently for fun. Then she held pictures, showing marks of burning on Mrs. and Mr. Barren skin. Then she called upon a witness to testify. At that point, Tesserain yawned loudly to show that this situation caused her no worry. The prosecutor gave her a glare, she looked up at her desk and paper flew towards her. She stared to grunt, and Tesserain allowed a huge grin splatter across her face. The judge slammed his hammer, and she stopped her magic. She looked at the judge and shrugged her shoulders.

"What? Everything is getting boring. Can't we cut to the chase?"

The judge looked irritated and glare. Then he spoke with pride.

"Fine Miss Barren. If you are so bored, how does a decade sound in the Mana Cage?"

"I'm pretty sure you can do better than that," Tesserain spoke in mockery.

Both her lawyer and the judge glared at her in unison. She shrugged again and decided to twirl her hair around. This isn't exactly a very controversial event in my life, she thought.

"Mockery it is then? I hereby declare you guilty of not only kidnapping your parents, torturing them with dark magic, but also for disrespecting the authority."

"Sure," Tesserain sing sung. "What grand authority I got stuck with."

He seemed to have exploded because his face was red, his eyes enraged, and his mouth looked like it tasted something bitter.

"I sentence you to the Mana Cage for life! How does that sound?"

She shrugged her shoulders and pretended to look hurt.

"Oh no," she said, putting a hand on her forehead. "I'm so doomed!"

She then laughed to herself and then you could see the coldness in her eyes.

"Bring it on," Tesserain said with a caliber voice.

"May this so-called 'Iron of Death' rise for the court?"

A shackled figure stood up, and stared somewhat lazily at the judge. His red eyes belied a feeling of utter amusement, overshadowed by pure, unadulterated rage.

"In light of your previous, vividly described crimes," the judge shuddered as he said this, "you are hereby found guilty of crimes against humanity and sentenced to life in the Mana Cage."

A sadistic smile began to creep on the figure's face.

"Do you have any final words before departure, Eöl?"

Eöl's smile intensified.

"The black wind howls."

The judge raised an eyebrow, but waved the statement off as the ramblings of a madman. A quick gesture signalled the crystal clad guards, who dragged this particular madman away. Under his breath Eöl muttered:

"You're all next. It has foretold such."

The ride in the carriage was an unpleasant one, full of fearful looks and bumpy roads. Many of the other prisoners shied away from Eöl, who simply frowned in all response. He took to ignoring them, and instead thought back to his poor suit. It was sullied now, and unfit for wearing. The left pant leg was torn, and one of his gloves was missing.

"What a pity," he thought.

The rest of the journey flew by thereon. A passersby became a blur in the eyes of Eöl. Homes were but another part of the scenery, and it was not until arriving at the Mana Cage did his vision refocus. He breathed a sigh of relief as a guard rounded the inmates up, and led them into the structure. Whispers could be heard as Eöl walked in:

"It's Gurthang!"

"What's with that scythe tattoo on his neck?"

"I've heard of this guy. He reanimated somebody's kid awhile back."

"I heard he flayed a client that refused to pay him."

"I could really go for a salami sandwich right now."

A card was stuffed into Eöl's hands, not that he really cared. This, mana "cage" as they called it, was but another playground in the eyes of this monster. Even without his magic, Eöl was a force to be reckoned with, and now, here was his oyster.

Cyne walked around the main hall. It was huge, he had never lived anywhere so... big. Maybe it was just him. The other people didn't seem to like it so much though.
"Hey," Cyne turned around to see a guard. "Is it true?"
"Is what true?" Cyne asked.
"I heard you were locked up for use of dark alchemy," the guard said. "Did you really do it?"
"Yeah," Cyne replied. "I don't know why you're asking, to be honest."
"Hell, I don't know why," the guard replied. "You just seem so... cheerful. You hae such an honest face as well, I just have trouble seeing you using that corrupted art."
Cyne raised an eyebrow. "Have you ever seen a criminal with a dishonest face?"
The guard smiled. "I've seen everything. Anyway, you should probably check out your cell."
Cyne smiled and waved, and walked towards his room.

For starters, the bed was to small.
Next, there was a crack in the wall
A bent bar on the door
and there was a number of cobwebs in the area. Time to do a routine cleaning.

In the courtroom he appeared once again, twice in the same day now. Before he would have at least had the decency to walk with his own two limbs, however, he ended up being quite a handful:

"Abomination", they called him for he did not reveal a name. "For being forged of black mag-", before the man could finish his sentence the creature lit up with passion. He pushed and shoved his way away from the guards, bashed them on their heads with his tied fists, and had another in a choke hold tearing his ear off with his teeth.

Taking better precaution the courtroom had decided it best to strap him down in an upright stretcher, straight jacket, and mask. Otherwise they would have to pay for more medical expenses for the guards. Noticeably the guards still stood a good few feet away from him for extra measure.

"Now, let's try this again shall we?" He whispered under his breath, "Cretin." He then cleared his throat and started again, "Abomination. The court finds you guilty of being an abomination created from dark magics, abduction, use of dark magic to create lesser abominations, using dark magics to imprison victims against their will, and as an abomination assaulting courtroom personnel. I hereby sentence you to the Mana Cage and we will conduct further investigation as to your creation and crimes. Any last words?"

The blond merely shook his body with laughter. His last command was to obliterate himself before any examinations could take place. That was exactly what he was determined to do in the cell.


Inside the carriage he was placed, still strapped and gagged. The driver and guards had heard about its early incident and didn't want to be another victim. Off they road while the monster chortled the entire way. He couldn't do much else with the gag and mask.

After the ride he was taken out and allowed to walk on his own two shoes again. He didn't try to run this time or even give the guards a hard time. He had his mission and that's all that mattered now.

Then suddenly as they entered through the barrier the humanoid beast felt its windpipes collapse. Like a dead Bambie his legs twisted together as a pretzel and he flopped to the ground. Paramedics were called but they were unable to find a pulse, or even determine if the abomination was created with one. They checked over its body but were unable to find any signs to indicate life. After a short discussion they decided to hold the stitched up vessel in a cell anyway, at least for a few days. Then perhaps, after assessing that they decided it didn't bear life, they would tear it open and find the source of its creation.


And that is how we find our little misfit. He is propped up in the corner of a cell, head bent, and limbs askew like a straw doll or scarecrow. The gag, mask, and restraints were removed leaving only its clothes and ear cuff. Suddenly the still object took in a large gasp of air and the back of its head smacked into the wall behind him.

The beast man looked around curiously, noticing the gleam of the cell. He cocked his head to the side, overwhelmed and confused. The doll man had been left for dead for two full days. Now suddenly the empty cadaver drew life. He looked down at his arms and hands, watching his fingers slowly flex. Then he glanced down at his feet moving his ankles to and fro.

He leapt up, like a spider with his long limbs. His head turned slowly, eyes scrutinizing the entire area. "Where is I?" He took long unsteady strides to the front of his cage. Eyes were opened far too wide as he gazed at everything and everyone around. "Where is maker?"

Clarification for the younger audience: Dementia isn't a person, dementia is a disease which severely inflicts the brain, incapacitating the person's capability to think reasonably.

"Mr Funny Hair, I went to jail many-a-times. I got out of jail, and every single time I got out I would kill the Funny Hair guy who sent me there."
"Keiiah I sentence you to a lifetime in the MANA CAGE for manslaughter, and threatening an official."
*Witnesses testify to a giggle, yet the girl did not open her mouth*
"Ok Mr. Funny Hair, see you in a few months."
*The jury confirmed that she was skipping out of the courtroom singing a odd jingle about slaughtering the scourge of this earth.*


A small, cozy carriage was taking her across the country-side. She was brandishing her simple void black knife which had an essence of an undead witch, or so the legend went. She saw the eyes of Emery inside of her knife, the eyes looked back at her. "Sing song, sing along. Sing with me Emery… Mary had a little lamb… her fleece was bloody red… and everyone that Mary killed… The lamb was sure to grow…" she said as she continued her small little twisted version of Mary had a Little Lamb. She arrived at the mana cage between night and noon. She saw large golem guards, they had a interestingly menacing look about them. She wondered if they had a soul. She walked past them, skipping and striding in her barefeet. The place was a lot bigger than her parents' house, she wondered how many bodies she could stack in here.

After wandering around Keiiah found a small, cozy, quaint little library with nice mosaics and a very large assortment of books. She picked out a book and continued reading it, all the while with her knife between her fingers.[/FONT]

The bored-looking judge turns the page of the book he was reading, glancing up at the courtroom. "Do you have any last words before I pass my sentence, Mr. Six Ale?"

The defendant, Mahad Sixale, rises, smoothing his dark suit. "Firstly, it is pronounced 'Six-AH-lay'. And I would ask your honor if my actions truly constitute a crime. Is a man not entitled to provide for himself and his own, in any way necessary? And is he not allowed to defend himself when his very life is threatened?"

The judge looks up from hid book in disbelief. "Sir, you broke into a storeroom and stole three months worth of food. And when you were caught, red handed I remind you, you summoned demons to fight your way out of town, leaving three guards and twelve civilians injured, and one man dead. Do you really claim this was self defense?"

Mahad puts a hand to his chest, attempting to look innocent and shocked at the accusation. "They had weapons drawn, and I had none, not even a dagger or a pointed stick! And just because my pets are scaly, winged creatures that reside in a parallel dimensional plane doesn't mean they are evil demons! And I wouldn't have to steal and defend myself if the Academy would take my life's work seriously and pay me for my research."

The judge shakes his head, tired of dealing with this man. "For your crimes of breaking and entering, trespassing, theft, assault and manslaughter, aided by Dark Magic, I hereby sentence you to 15 years in the Mana Cage, with no chance for early release." He bangs his gavel, signalling the guards to take Mahad away.

Mahad struggles as he is escorted out of the courtroom, protesting the injustice of the situation. He sinks into a surly silence after being taken to the Mana Cage, not even bothering to note the splendor of his new home. If half the tales of prison he had heard were true, he would need all his considerable intellect to survive. Preferably by gaining dome large allies to protect him.

Domo analyzed the cage thoroughly, noting its dirtiness as well as the escape route. He pushed open the cage door while his shoulders slumped. The world outside seemed much grander and more unfamiliar, than that of in the cage. He instantly cowered, clutching the doorway. He felt the whole prison was swallowing him up.

"Ma-ker…", he mumbled to himself as he unwound the tightness in his muscles. Standing up tall he strode creakily out of the doorway and into the larger pen. All around him were cages, but no one inside led him to believe that they were his true creator. He paused momentarily outside the door of a man much larger than himself. The ogre of a man was tidying his room and the scarecrow crept past him.

Domo was all legs and arms. He seemed to walk as creepily as a spider despite missing the other two pairs of spindly legs. His eyes were solid and did not reflect the world around him nor did it lead into his soul. Rather, they seemed to be painted marbles sliding around beneath potato sack skin. Unknown to him the creature wandered towards the direction of the library with his shoulders slumped but ears perked.

A massive stone golem smashed it's hammer against a bell. "Time to eat," called out a warden. "It's lunchtime, it's lunchtime! Go to the canteen to avoid disappointment!"


Cyne peaked his head up. He was hungry. It was time to get something to eat. Cyne walked towards the canteen, and moved towards the counter. I wonder what's for lunch? Cyne thought. Hopefully something good.
Cyne walked towards the counter. Before he could get there, however, a guard walked over to him. "Hey," the guard said, "would you mind serving up the food?"
"No, not really," Cyne replied.
"Good," said the guard. "Just put the soup on the plate of anyone who comes over."
Cyne shrugged. "Okay then. Doesn't seem so hard."
Indeed, it wasn't hard at all. He didn't even feel uncomfortable giving food to anyone. All except for... one person. The man came over with a twisted smile, and a massive scar on his face. Cyne only felt uncomfortable around him because he was Mr. Crown. Crown smiled, and pushed a piece of paper towards Cyne. Then, he simply winked, and walked away with his food. Cyne pocketed the note.

Mahad had been pacing the inside of his cell, considering methods of escape, when he heard the bell ring. He looks around warily, when he hears the warden announce it's time for lunch. "Finally! I half thought they intended to starve us!"

A guard comes along to escort him to the canteen. Mahad goes quietly, sniffing the air in anticipation. The guard shoves him, urging him to walk faster. "Say, that doesn't smell too bad. Smells like... tacos. Is it Taco Tuesday?"

It wasn't. Mahad sees another inmate pass by with a plate, slightly disappointed that its just some slop. It may have smelled good, but it looked grey and unappetizing. "Ugh! Who made that... gruel? It looks repulsive!" He scowls at the kitchen, when he notices the giant Cyne serving food. He immediately changes his tune, afraid of insulting the large man. "I-I mean... I'm sure it tastes better than it looks..." He avoids the man's gaze, scurrying off with his plate.

He really needed some friends. Preferably big ones.

"Are you Mr. Axwin Skyfall?"
"Yes."
"Did you or did you not use a ritual to summon a griffin?"
The tone in the voice of the judge clarified there was no chance of negotiation. There seemed even a reasonable chance his sentence would increase when he denied this statement.
"Yes."
"You know what a creature of such size could cause, don't you, Mr. Skyfall?"
Axwin knew that quite well, he hadn't planned to do any harm with this one, even if his ritual hadn't been interrupted. Was it his fault his hobby was illegal? Yes, it probably was, whose fault could it be otherwise? At this moment he wished his hobby was collecting ancient vases, except for the fact that this might be the most boring activity he could think of.
"Yes, I do."
"Good, then I keep it short. You'll be sentenced to stay in the Mana Cage for ten years. Anything to say?"
Axwin asked if he could keep his Manual of herbs: their habitat and powers, which he could. What they didn't know was that Axwin added twenty pages which he enchanted that they stayed unnoticeable to anyone but him, unless they knew of this for some reason. He used these pages to make notes of his created and improved rituals.

So this was the Mana Cage? From the outside it looked like a regular prison, but there must be some invisible anti-magic field. When Axwin entered one of the accompanying guards removed his handcuffs. It appeared to be lunchtime. Everyone gathered in the hall. This didn't seem so bad, he just arrived and got a free lunch already and it looked somewhat sociable here. His cheerfulness disappeared when he saw what's for lunch. "Lunch can wait, I first need to check something." Axwin said to himself. He looked at the hidden pages in his book, the enchantment seemed to lost its effect. So even magic set before is blocked in here. Interesting, Axwin thought, and then: I must get out of here.

Cyne kept serving food. It wasn't that hard, nor difficult. Occasionally, however, he met a less-grateful prisoner. "Ugh, who made this... gruel? It looks repulsive!?" The man then noticed that the man serving food was 8 feet tall and had a hand made of stone, and he immediately changed his manners.

Of course, some of the prisoners were just plain creepy. One of them was a large and repulsive man who just... stared at Cyne. "Ummmm..." Cyne started, "Would you like something to eat?" He cautiously said while waving his stone hand at him.

For Tesserain, these two weeks in the Mana Cage haven't been all that bad. Sure the place needed better cooks, but it was something she had to live with; after all, this was her new home for life. Even worse, the walls around her prevented her from using her dark magic. Of course sleep wasn't a pleasant thing for Tesserain, but she managed to find a way to fight sleep. Although today, she woke up from a guard banging her cage. She let out a groan, and apparently she was still sore from yesterday's fight with some buffer girls in there. She barely won, but took quite a beating.

"Get up you shank. Go eat before I decide it's best you stay in here."

What Tesserain really wanted to do was snap that guard's neck, but she wouldn't be gaining much from that. As she got up, the guard opened the gate and escorted her down to the cafeteria. As she walked in, she saw the girl she beat up yesterday, with a black eye, a very scarred cheek, and bandages that failed to cover up whatever damage she did to her. Some of her friends rose up to face Tesserain and walked up slowly to her.

"Well well, if it isn't good old Stone-face." All of them snickered at the same time.

"Well it's just Stone if you don't mind," said Tesserain back, looking at them like yesterday's lunch.

"Shut your face up," said one with mousy brown hair. "You sick ugly-"

Whatever she was going to say was lost as Tesserain's fist connected with her jaw. She gasped as she fell down.

"Say Stone."

The one on the floor laughed and tried to grab Tesserain by the leg, but she kicked her in the face. She howled in pain. Her friends tried helping her as they grabbed Tesserain and did a lock on her, but she jabbed her elbows to get out. Grunting, she let herself get crazy and try to lift up the girl on the floor. The others kept Tesserain back.

"We could have been alleys Stone." Tesserain turned around to see the girl she beat up yesterday, Helga, talk. "But messing with us was a mistake pesky girl. Let's take care of this later before you get us all in trouble."

She really wanted to say something else, but Tesserain stopped herself. Maybe she should fight in the cage, where more people will be attentive to details of her. Everyone will see this. Without a word, Tesserain brushed her shoulders and walked away to the lunchline. As she got her food, she looked at it with disgust. She looked at the man who served it.

"Do you have anything better in the menu? And I'm not taking no as an answer."

She glared at the man and waited for his response.
