OR/AS Kanto Classics Competition Help & Advice Thread

Salutations, Hoenn trainers! On March 4th, 2016, in order to commemorate 20 years of Pokémon gaming, Nintendo will be giving us the Kanto Classics Competition! So what is Kanto Classics, anyways? It's an OR/AS-exclusive online Wi-Fi battling competition. In it, only the first 149 Pokémon of the national Pokédex can be used, and hold items are forbidden. These restrictions mirror the competitive battling experience of 1st generation. By taking part in at least 3 battles, you'll earn a special level 62 Dragonite based on the Dragonite used by Lance in 1st gen--likewise, said Dragonite will know Barrier, a move that it can't learn through normal means after 2nd gen. This Dragonite will likely be quite rare after the competition is over, so be sure to take participate and grab one while you can!

In order to sign up, you'll need to have a Pokémon Trainer Club membership. If you don't already have one, you can create one by clicking "Create An Account!" on the login page. Once you've confirmed your email, logged in successfully, and chosen your Pokémon Global Link settings, you can then log into Pokémon Global Link using your Pokémon Trainer Club login. Once you've logged into PGL, you'll be asked to enter your PGL Game Sync ID. You can find your Game Sync ID by choosing Game Sync in the PSS. Enter the Game Sync ID you received from PSS into your Pokémon Global Link profile, and then boom. Congratulations! Your game is now linked to your Pokémon Trainer Club account!

Now, how can you guarantee that you have a good team ready for the tournament? Well thanks to the many features ORAS provides us, getting a battle-ready Pokémon is a piece of cake! Here's a few of the things you'll want to make use of:

    • The DexNav: The DexNav allows you to find all kinds of rare Pokémon. By DexNavving, you can find: a Pokémon with a hidden ability, a Pokémon with moves that it could normally only learn through breeding, and even high IV Pokémon (IVs are known as "Potential" on the DexNav).
    • Super Training: Super Training is a quick and fun way to EV train your Pokémon. Super Training also provides the Reset Bag: a training bag that resets a Pokémon's EVs--useful if you have a Pokémon you'd like to use in the tournament, but would like to start your EV training on it with a clean slate.
    • The Pokémon Day Care: OR/AS has two Pokémon Day Cares: one on Route 117 (west of Mauville City), and one in the Battle Resort. Be sure to breed properly if you want the perfect IVs for you Pokémon!
    • Here's a list of Pokémon can be found via DexNav. Hover over a Pokémon's name to view where it can be found!

Thanks, sorry I was just confused as I've never entered a competition on here before, I've signed up and put my pokemon in the battle box, so now I just have to wait until the competition actually starts? Thanks

Sorry for posting again, but am I able to use Pokemon randomly obtained through trades and stuff? As most of my team will consist of pokemon I got by trading. Thanks!

You're only allowed to use 1st Gen Pokemon, as in those numbered 001-149 in the National Dex (yes Mew and Mewtwo are banned if the OP is to go by) so make sure you know that.

I know but I mean am I able to use ones randomly obtained or do they have to be caught by myself? Thanks!

I never participated in any online competition before, but I've decided to hop on for this one! :) They seem fun, this one will be a nice way to celebrate the 20th anniversary, and it'll be nice to get a unique Dragonite in the end :P Even though I'm a bit versed in the competitive game, I don't really have any competitively-fit Pokémon in my actual games yet. I don't plan for any crazy strategies or anything, I just plan to play for some casual, nice fun ^.^

I signed up yesterday, and am grinding up some of my Kanto Pokémon to level 50. Really need to hurry up though, the event starts tomorrow at 7 PM my time (EST), but I think I can make it :) So far, the Pokémon I plan on using currently is Charizard, Zapdos, Pidgeot, and Dragonair. I'm gonna try the Blissey Secret Base trick to gain lots of EXP for the underleveled Pokémon before the competition starts. I'll make sure to do 10 battles per day :) Like I said, I don't expect to do anything huge, but I'll see where I end up!

    Good luck to all! ^^

Questions regarding the Dragonite with kanto classic

Hello, quite new here and was just wondering after we play participate in at least 3 battles will we receive the dragonite regardless or wheather we win or lose?

Also can we collect the dragonite straight away or do we have to wait until the kanto classic is over?

And how/where do we collect the dragonite once it's availiable?

Hope that wasn't too confusing, thanks in advance! :)

As far as I know, you just compete in 3 battles, and that qualifies you for the Dragonite. This is going by what it says on their website.

To qualify, players must earn a place in the rankings by completing at least three battles.

Doesn't give any indication on whether or not you have to win or lose said battles, so I'm pretty sure you just do 3 battles in order to earn your Dragonite :)

In past competitions its just take part in 3 battles. They will then email you about the code when its available.

Thanks guys, is there any way to check the email linked to our account as I think I've forgotten which email I used
