Hack Series: PokéLand 0 - Episode 5 OUT NOW !!!

A tale of Light & Darkness unfolds...

Accompany the teenagers Chimchar, Riolu, Piplup & Torchic, who grew up as orphans, now wanting to discover their home world. Yet, the planet has to face a strong danger, known as Darkness themself. But this won't stop the gang to help the inhabitants of Xenos. Along their journey they'll meet many friends, but also strong opponents.

Pokéland 0's gameplay is a mixture of the old fashioned 'The Legend of Zelda'-and traditional Pokémon games. Mixing the two together and you get an awesome story driven action adventure RPG with puzzles, Zelda-dungeons, minigames, sidequests and more...

PokéLand 0 will have in several episodes. Episode 1-3 are ROM-Hacks (FireRed), Episode 4 is a fanfiction and Episode 5 is a fangame (made with RPG Maker XP & Essentials).

looks interesting!!! cool concept. only question I have is how many episodes are there going to be as it seems like there's an episode system you have planned. (based on the fact that there seems to be more episodes hence it being episode 1)

Currently, the plan is to have 8 episodes in total.

Episode 1 has ~7-9 hours of gameplay. Depends a bit if you're familiar with the franchise and if you're doing the side- & post-game stuff

Episode 1 ends after you complete the first half of Shine City. After that, there are a few more things to discover :)

PokéLand 0 is not meant to compare itself to Mystery Dungeon and it's not related to that story either. The game doesn't even take a Mystery Dungeon as a Rom-Base. So, I don't insult Mystery Dungeon in any way. I just made a comment, that planet Xenos also only has Pokémon as their inhabitants, as I feel humans would just be out of place in this story.

Instead, I made PokéLand 0 to tell a story, that's quite important for me. PokéLand 0's essence is to enjoy a story-driven adventure, filled with puzzles and fun turn-based battles.

It's okay, that you don't like it. Just wanted to clarify those things

Just finished the game.
Overall Review

Positives:
1) Concept & Creativity: Very unique and clearly different from traditional Romhacks. Loved the fact that the entire in-game universe was exclusively only Pokemon and had no humans.
2) Boss Battles: While the boss battles weren't extremely difficult, they were still relatively challenging. But more importantly, the selection of the boss for the particular section of the story was pretty good which I personally liked.

Negatives:
1) Execution: The game felt very unpolished and some of the puzzles seemed more like a chore versus something challenging to deal with. The game felt pretty buggy in general.
2) Side Quests: Again the incorporation of the side quests was great but, in general they don't seem to make any sense and seem really random. For example, "The Baking a Cake Side-quest" felt really random considering what happens after finishing the quest.

Neutral:
1) Story: Not really sure what you were going for with the story, but it was personally a little too cringeworthy for my taste. That said, there were some parts that were entertaining and the overall narrative isn't that bad. It definitely has great potential to become much better over the next few chapters.

Main Suggestion:
1) Puzzles: Focus on quality versus quantity. A lot of the puzzles seem more like a grind and pain to deal with versus something interesting or challenging to solve. Try to incorporate this and keep this in mind for future episodes.

I'm definatly going the way of quality over quanitity and I'll look how I can optimize the minigames and sidequests. The story will also strongly develop in Episode 2

Hello Inner Rhymes :) Episode 3 was conceptualized that you can enjoy it without having played Episode 1 & 2 - It also has new protagonists. There's only one scene that happens after Episode 2's ending, having a light spoiler.

But Episode 1 should be played before Episode 2.
