Thought this might be somewhat interesting, so here we go...

If you had to explain the Pokemon games/anime/TCG (Your choice for this thread, you can choose all or some if you want) to someone that you knew had absolutely 0% prior knowledge about Pokemon, how would you choose to explain it to them?

You collect super-powered creatures, and participate in sport competitions using their abilities, moves and types. Pokemon can be based on animals, plants, objects and sometimes supernatural entities.

Game: "Go around the world to find and catch all kinds of creatures. Bases many on real-world animals. Uses these creatures to battle others and become the strongest." Sounds more awkward to say "region" or "land". Stuck in the "real-world animals" part to guide their thoughts towards more normal animals instead of Godzilla.

Anime: "Tells the story of a kid named Ash Ketchum. Leaves home to catch monsters, learn how to raise them, and also battle with them. Tries to ultimately become the best monster trainer." Mainly knows the first season. Doubts any real deviation since then.

Trading Card Game: "Builds a deck of monsters. Fuels them with energy cards from your hand to enable them to use attacks. Powers up some of your monsters further by changing their form, but with the caveat of needing more energy to function. Wins by taking all of your opponent's prize cards (gained by knocking out your opponent's monsters) or by removing all of your opponent's monsters on the field." Presumes this to still be correct. Left out trainer cards.

Forcibly capture stronger and stronger creatures until you are forcibly capturing gods all for the sake of winning in legalized dogfighting tournaments
