[PokeCommunity.com] It's Official: PS3 Slim & Price Cut Coming; Sony Sucks at Keeping Secrets

Okay, so it's finally been confirmed that there will be both a PS3 price cut, and an upcoming 120 GB slim release. It's like christmas for fanboys!
I really don't know what to say about this, other than the fact that I'm glad that Sony is finally getting reasonable by ditching the crappy, black, glossy exterior large price tag. I think that I can now finally buy a PS3 for myself instead of mooching off of my roommate.
As far as we know, that crappy piece of plastic in the youtube video is indeed the PS3 slim, and I'm starting to believe the existence of a Sony black market.

Great, hopefully the price drop will be significant :3 I want a PS3 ><

Meh, if it isn't backwards compatible with PS1/2 games, it's not that special.
Yeah, I'm still holding on to my PS2 just in case the backwards compatability is bull.

If it drops to a reasonable price (Around £200), I might get one.

I'll still devote more time to my 360 though.
The price for the current PS3 will be 299$, 299 Euros, and 2980 yen.
I'm not sure about the Slim's price tag, however.

EDIT: Whoops, rikudaman is right. I don't know anything about Asian currency. >.<

$299 works out at £180. If its around that, I dont mind.

I think the next console era will be starting at the latest of 2011 with both of the serious competitors throwing out cheaper prices and what is probably they're last variation of the console.

This price cut better come soon..As in a month soon.

Now I feel a div for not waiting out. :[
Maybe my parents will buy a slimline and i can switch them overnight?

I believe it will be around £199 for the 40GB one in UK.

However i am happy with my bulky PS3 seeing as i got it for free (my parents didnt buy it, it was a present from a friend) so boo to you lol.

It... should be effective right this very moment, if that's soon enough for you. Though honestly, it's not worth it if by the end of the month you can get the slim which, while ugly, is a much better deal for the same amount.

That sounds tidy Lightning...But I don't think it's effective in the UK just yet.

If there's no backwards compatibility, I'll wait until a game I want to play comes out on it. >_>; -too lazy to change a few wires when wanting to play on a different console-

I don't think I'm interested in a slimmer PS3. I had the bulky PS2 and it ended up dying and when I got the slim, I loved it. But the problem is the price of games and the system for me. :/ I just can't afford to shell out $500-600 on games I want + a PS3.

If the price of the system gets lower, I'd probably take a second look at it. XD

There's no PS2 Backward Compatibility. Let it go guys; it's a phantom benefit.

To be honest? It's ugly. It's chunky; and not in the "commanding presence" manner of the original PS3. The plastic looks cheap and nasty; and it's really not THAT much smaller. Viva la original PS3.
And the price is $299US for the 120GB Slim. Pretty fair, imo.

Phantom Benefit...unless you buy the PS2 EE+GS chip, (which translates to Emotion Engine and Graphics Synthesizer), or have the original 60-80GB like me. :)

And even then, not ALL games can be played. Most of them can(95-98% apparently), but because of the system's I/O devices, some games had problems. Which is why I kept my PS2's. XD

Though I gotta say...as weird as it looks, I wouldn't mind getting this. Besides, a PS3 for this cheap? I will be saving the money that I get in 15 or so days for my B-Day for this. XD

Do you know what Phantom Benefit means? It means it's something people *think* they want; but don't ever use. The PS3 reports anonymous usage data upon system update; so this actual reported data. And FYI? The US Launch 60GB is inferior to the PAL launch system for BC; because while the US unit effectively turns into a PS2 when you play PS2 games on it (and thus can not in any way enhance the titles you play); the PAL system does 1080p upscale *and* FSAA for the PS2 games it plays; even if the compatibility list is a tiny bit smaller. So yes, SOTC @ 60fps 1080p on my PAL launch unit? Yes. Yes it's beautiful.

Either way, BC's not coming back.

Quote taken, and too damn true. This is why again, I still have my PS2. Besides, it's too much just to ask for BC on a PS3. Shouldn't it already have it? I'll answer that. No. Because the PS2 is still selling, and they made it cheaper. So I guess it makes sense to keep BC out. That's where the Wii succeds. FULL-ON BC. But that's not the topic, so I'll leave it at that.

Sadly, this is also true. Oh well, get ready for the new Jak game. *Waits*

Finally have a reason to buy one. The price of 400 euros to play games was too steep I mean hell I have my PC for it but now I am wanting it. Not to mention it looks damn better.
