Ok... so when May finally makes it to the Grand Festival in Season 8... there are 247 contestants. Each one with 5 ribbons.

A total of 1235 contests that had to be won for those ribbons, AND that's in the Hoenn region ONLY. When May nearly missed the boat a few episodes earlier, she alluded to the fact that by not entering the Grand Festival she would have to start all over again and wait for the next Grand Festival in the following year.

So that means... in 1 year, 365 days, there are 1235 contests which means about 3-4 contests each day.

    That. Is. Stupid.

lol i have had this thought before and i just decided to try not to think about it because pokemon is like most if not all shows over analyse it and you ruin it

Yeah. That's funny thing. I thought about it too. But kids not and writers don't care.

I find that letting reality in Pokemon mix...seriously dilutes the enjoyment of both.

Haha good math... although it's not that unbelievable. If you think about how many towns there are in the region (because the Anime makes up a TON that weren't in the game), maybe there could be 4 contests going on simultaneously, on opposite ends of the region. True, the judges/announcer would have to constantly move-- unless they all have town-specific dopplegangers like Joys and Jennys do.

In reality I bet the show writers didn't think about it. But if Joy and Jenny have a seemingly infinite number of sisters all with THE SAME NAME, well, then from Day 1 anything is possible...

So you actually figured this out only now?
I've been knowing this all along. D: And I still can't believe it at all...

I think that ribbons are like badges, you don't have to win them all over again.

I find this a bit weird too. Vivian/Contesta/Sukizo all seem to appear at every single contest so it would be impossible for them to appear in 3 seperate contests every single day. Also, Vivian/Marion always mentions where the next contest is, which is usually about a month or so away from the previous one.

Nah they made it clear as I mentioned when May missed the boat on her way to get her 5th ribbon that it meant she would need to start from the beginning if she didn't make it to the current year's Grand Festival.

Consider the fact that it's spread across an entire country, and that multiple events can and will be happening simeltaneously.

Not only that, but realistically to have a the Grand Festival, you know a TOURNAMENT, you need a rather significant amount of coordinators. Since there is like one contest in every town per couple months (some explicitly have said once a year), there has to be 3-4 per day. Not to mention the fact that Sinnoh is a country, so it has to have many many many towns. I live in the US (Specifically in New York). In my home state alone, I could collect eight badges AND five ribbons and that is without leaving the city. Consider all the other towns within a country. When you think about that, it makes sense that there could be 3-4 contests per day. The larger ones are probably the ones that Sukizo, Contesta, and Marian are at.

Hoenn is a region not a country though. And at the start of every episode during season 7, it shows us a map of the Hoenn region which isn't very big (they walk from city to city after all!). So it still makes no sense.
