Hello, everyone! Welcome to the new and improved "Who's That Pokémon" contest!

Do you think you have what it takes to become a Pokémon Master? There's only one way to find out, and you've come to the right place to test your skills! You must overcome all sorts of hardships by solving various puzzles that all involve figuring out the identity of a Pokémon, with different types of clues being given to you.

Throughout your journey, there will be times when you win, but there may also be times when you lose. Learn from both your victories and your losses, and do not let defeat discourage you! That is the way of a true Pokémon Master, so don't give up hope no matter what happens!

Overview

• During the course of this contest, I will periodically post different types of puzzles. The main two types are "Weekly Puzzles" and "Bonus Puzzles."
  
  
• "Weekly Puzzles" are the standard puzzles that I will post every week, and they will use the same type of clue each time (see below for more details).
  
  
• "Bonus Puzzles," however, will not have a specific schedule, and will thus be posted at random intervals with varying deadlines. These puzzles will NOT be the same each time, so you can expect a variety of different clues (such as sprites, riddles, trivial facts, etc.).
  
  
• You can gain points by correctly solving puzzles, and once you earn enough points, you can rank-up (on the "Board of Honor") or even win yourself some emblems!
  
  
• Each type of puzzle will be explained in detail below.

Weekly Puzzles:

• Once a week every Friday night (or Saturday morning), I'll post a heavily zoomed-in section of a Pokémon, and it's your job to tell me which Pokémon the image belongs to.
• The clue is a 30 x 30 px section cropped from the Pokémon's official Dream World art (found here) and magnified 8 times to become a 240 x 240 px image.
• Mega Pokémon and Alola Forms are included as possible answers in these puzzles!
• These puzzles will almost always have a fixed deadline, which is usually the next Monday at 10:00 p.m. (Eastern Time).
• Each of these puzzles are worth one point, which will be awarded at the end after the answer is publicly announced.

Bonus Puzzles:

• I may post a Bonus Puzzle at any time during the week, and there may even be more than one Bonus Puzzle going on at the same time!
• The clues can vary between shiny sprites, riddles, trivial facts (taken from Bulbapedia), rotated sections of Dream World art, or virtually anything I can think of.
• These puzzles will have varying deadlines, meaning they can range from a few days to even 2 weeks. (Of course, I'll post the deadline ahead of time.)
• To clarify, Bonus Puzzles will NOT interrupt the flow of Weekly Puzzles, so they will both coexist at the same time.
• Bonus Puzzles may be worth a different amount of points. A lot of them will be worth one point, but others may be worth more.
• I am always open to new ideas for Bonus Puzzles, so let me know if you think of anything cool!

How to Participate

• To submit your answer for a puzzle, send Lycanthropy a PM (private message) with your answer before the deadline of that puzzle.
  
  
• Please specify which puzzle you are answering somewhere in your message, or put it in the title! (Examples: WTP Week 24, WTP Bonus #3, etc.)
  
  
• You may answer as many times as you want for any given puzzle, but only your final answer will count!
  
  
• Do not post answers in this thread - you don't want other people to use your answers, do you?
  
  
• Feel free to chat about the puzzles and how easy/hard you find them! In fact, I even encourage having discussions about the contest here. That will make things more fun, after all!

The Ranking System

Each time you correctly solve a puzzle, you will be rewarded the amount of points that puzzle is worth at the end of the deadline. Once you reach a certain amount of points, your "rank" will increase. Here is a list of ranks you can attain, along with the amount of points required to reach them:

• Normal Rank: 1-4 points
• Super Rank: 5-9 points
• Hyper Rank: 10-14 points
• Ultra Rank: 15-19 points
• Master Rank: 20+ points
• Secret Rank: 50+ points

And of course, in addition to ranks, there are also emblems to reward you for your hard work! Hover your mouse over them to read the conditions needed to attain them!

Hiya, everyone! I've got Weekly Puzzle #25 up and running, so here's a link so you can get straight to the puzzle!

Like before, I tried making this one on the easy side, though it won't be like Caterpie from Week 3 or Snorunt from Week 12. In addition, I must unfortunately delay Bonus Puzzle #2 for a while, because PokéCommunity suffered an attack from hackers, and is thus less functional at the moment. The new bonus emblem that was uploaded a while back is now broken, and because messages aren't giving out notifications, it would be a lot harder to get help in fixing it, let alone handing it out. I'm incredibly sorry, guys, but the staff here is working really hard to fix things up for us, which I really appreciate! Hopefully things will get better soon!

As the name implies, this puzzle will utilize a riddle-themed clue, rather than the normal Dream World art. It's a bit like Trembling Trivia (our first Bonus Puzzle), but instead of direct facts, we have to read about a Pokémon describing itself, and then guess who the Pokémon is. Heyyy, everyone! Remember when I mentioned that there would be some interesting news updates this week? Well, it's time for me to address them!

First things first, I remember at one point that Squirrel (the original host who was in charge of Weeks 1-10) said that if WTP continued long enough and if enough people were consistently getting high scores, then he would add an additional emblem(s) to accommodate for that. And from what I'm seeing, we might be reaching that point soon... Master Rank (20 points) was supposed to be the final rank, yet there are a couple of you who have 36 points at the moment, and I see that a lot of others are steadily approaching Master Rank. I really appreciate your determination, and it would be a little disappointing if there wasn't anything ahead of you after proving yourselves as Pokémon Masters.

That being said, there will now be a new rank called Secret Rank, which can be attained once you reach 50 points. And don't worry, you do NOT necessarily have to wait 50 weeks! I'm currently busy with a lot of things at the moment (especially final exams), but once those are out of the way, I'll try my best to make Bonus Puzzles more often! Remember, some puzzles may be worth 2 or more points rather than just one. Additionally, starting with Week 35, I'm testing out a new kind of puzzle, called an Extra Puzzle. These "Extra Puzzles" will come side-by-side with the standard Weekly Puzzles (yes, in the same thread), but they will be significantly harder, as the clue images may be flipped or rotated. These puzzles are optional, so you can still submit answers for Week 35 without attempting that week's Extra Puzzle. There won't be an Extra Puzzle every week, but I will try to make a lot of them so you guys can earn your points faster! :D Oh yeah, and if you guess an Extra Puzzle correctly, you'll be able to win the WTP Bonus Emblem (assuming you don't already have it)!

And of course, there's still one more thing I would like to discuss - the emblems! I have received feedback about the current emblems (except the bonus emblem), regarding how they seem a bit too underwhelming and/or unappealing. I appreciate the honest feedback, and I personally wouldn't mind re-designing them either. However, I'm not entirely sure if the pictures of an existing emblem can be changed, nor do I know if I'm permitted to ask to change them. Therefore, I cannot make any promises to change the current emblems, but I will check with the staff later on once I begin designing the Secret Rank emblem.

Ah, the reason I wasn't sure is simply because I haven't asked yet, haha. But from what I know, I think they can be changed, but I would need to ask an admin for help. I'll be sure to let you all know if there are any updates to the situation, so hang on tight! :D

Hi guys, I've got a quick announcement to make regarding Extra Puzzles!

From now on, Extra Puzzles can fall under one of two categories: "rotated/flipped clues" or "super-obscure clues"! They are exactly what they sound like. The first category is the same thing as the previous Extra Puzzles, in which the clue may be flipped and/or rotated in any direction. The second category, however, will not involve flipping or rotating in any way. Instead, the clue will be a clean, unaltered image just like the standard Weekly Puzzles, except I'll choose a part of a Pokémon which I deem unusually difficult.

Whenever we have an Extra Puzzle, I will always state in advance which category it is, so there's no need to try reading my mind. :P
