  • Police are assaulted 50,000 times a year, and are outnumbered 3:1 or 6:1 depending on what you count.

Police are trained to shoot to kill. the 800 figure it not evidence of police brutality. Sure, there are isolated cases, but its not really an issue relative to other issues that plague the US.

Assault on and death of police offices has been on the decline since 1970. While deaths of civilians has increased since 2009.*

*= the 2016 page hasn't been updated since January, and is not up to date. The others are.

The fact that we are training our officers to shoot to kill is a problem in and of itself. The rest of the world gets along just fine without using lethal force. Also, under the law we are entitled to due process. It is not the police's job to be the judge, jury, and executioner.

Something else relevant to this discussion: The increasing militarisation of the police force in america has increasingly made the use of lethal force more encouraged, easier, and better equipped to be possible.

  • Alright, this thread is getting a little too broad now. I encourage you to continue discussing the topics you've talked about here in dedicated threads for those topics but I'm closing this one.
