So, I've been thinking of what a new region would be like in 5th Gen, where it would be, new pokemon, legendaries, attacks, what the cities would be named, the gym leaders types, and such. So Im making a thread for discussion of a new region. I was hoping we could discuss it systematically, that way its not like 80000000 ideas bouncing around with no real point. Please, no spam either. So, for a rough list of stuff that a new region would need, theres

#1-A Name (Loeket, unless we decide to change it)
    #2-Size, Shape, Geography
#3-New Pokemon Yes/No (Yes, only legends and starters)
    #4-A Plot
#5-Cities Placement, Gym Leaders and Gym LEaders basic type
    #6-Elite Four Type and Placement
    #7-Character to be used name
#8-Starers for the new Region (Gazelle, Polar Bear, Chinchilla)
#9-Placement of routes and Pokemon on those routes
#10-Ideas for NEw Pokemon and Attacks

Well I think thats a decent list, and I was hoping we could go through it in order, but if you have an idea for a city name or a new Poke, please dont hesitate to say, but try to not add a new idea in when we have more than 2 or so being discussed. Well I hope everyone has fun with this!

A region name starting with a C would be pretty sweet.
Something like Creoh, or Crisoch, Crasarch...

As for the plot? For nostalgias sake, there has to be a team something... Maybe backed by some kind of corporation? Say something crazy, like there is a branch of Silph in this new region. Another powerfull poke corporation is also present in the region, and has hired this gang of criminals to basicaly sabatoge and attack silph employees. Course silph would need some sort of new product prototype, but it would have to be something good, because we already have the masterball. :D But there should be multiple branches of the plot, not necessarily following the trail of a gang of theives out to get the uber pokemon of the game...

As for geography I'd also like to see some dryer regions, especially a real canyon. And a massive river that flows throughout the entire region, and connects several areas. Of course you can't use it to travel through the entire region, but still the same river throughout. Which would bring up another possible plot element, such as the river is becoming contaminated, ect. There aren't any river themed legenderies yet. ;P

I've got more ideas, but I'll let other post first.

I've been working on my region for a while. Trying to make a hack for it. Attached map is in bad quality and has labels on it. I really only have geography done. It doesn't have a name, or a definite side plot to getting all 8 badges. Also, I neglected to add any D/P pokemon to the list. Feel free to do that.

Here are some of my ideas. You can borrow some if you'd like.

    Cities Placement, Gym Leaders:
Stonehaven Town is the starting town which is built in the valley of several tall mountains. It is covered in mist for most of the day, but at noontime, the entire valley is engulfed in sunlight. Pokemon found nearby are Diglett, Trapinch, Vibrava, Stantler, Sunkern, Sunflora and Magnemite.

Stonehaven Cave is a short tunnel with an extensive underground network. Most of the lower floors are composed of underground rivers. Pokemon found nearby are Diglett, Dugtrio, Wooper, Quagsire, Trapinch, Magnemite, Magneton, Geodude, Onix, and Aron.

Between the cave and the next town is a swamp route, covered in water and trees / grass. Pokemon found there are Wooper, Lotad, Surskit, Barboach, and Mudkip.

Ardentrain City is a city which is built on mountainland. It is covered in perpetual rain and has many rivers and waterfalls running through it. It is the first city which has a gym leader, in fact, it has two gyms. Upon arrival, one of the gyms is locked and the other is on a trip somewhere. The Pokemon School is in Ardentrain.

Forest Shrine is an area which cannot be reached until very late in the game. You can find many rare forest Pokemon, and Celebi.

Evergreen Woods is a large woodland surrounded by mountaineous walls. It is rather low on compared to the highlands. In the center there is a large lake, where the first gym leader is hiding. She has a Wooper and a Cloyster. Pokemon found in the woods include Ekans, Seedot, Oddish, Bellsprout, Dratini, Sunkern, Sandshrew, amongst others.

Mountain Pass is a path which leads up through mountains to the highlands, which have much drier environments. Pokemon found here are Zubat, Hoothoot, Taillow, Pidgey and Nosepass.

Zenith Town is a town built atop the forest. It is much like that town where Winona was the gym leader. The Gym Leader here also uses flying-type Pokemon, such as Farfetch'd, Noctowl and Gligar.

Primegrove City is a rest-stop city. It is a plainsland-type area. The Pokemon Department Store is here. No gym leaders reside here. Tourists like to come here for their fresh berries and berry-related produce. Pokemon found here include Nidoran, Vulpix and Mankey.

Between Primegrove and the next town is a small desert. Pokemon found here include Rhyhorn, Koffing, Torkoal, Mawile and Larvitar.

Briarvale Town is a town built upon thorny foliage. It is well hidden and secure because of the thorns. Pokemon found here include Caterpie, Weedle, Wurmple, Pineco, Koffing, Drowsee, and Quilfish. The gym leader uses Poison-type Pokemon, but is annoyed since most of her apprentices use bug-types, leading challengers to think the gym is a Bug-type gym. She might be Lucy from the Battle Frontier, if you fancy. She uses Dratini, Arbok and Seviper.

Silentrest Town is a quiet village which houses the breeding couple. It has a great mountainside view and the air is pure. Pokemon here include Furret, Zigzagoon, Stantler, Eevee, Wobbuffet, Venonat and Marrill.

Sierracrag Town is a town built near an oasis, in the middle of a desert. Frequent Sandstorms occur, and it may be required to have goggles even to pass through. The gym leader specializes in Steel-type Pokemon, in particular, Skarmory and Metang. Pokemon found here include Onix, Trapinch, Vibrava, Bagon, Sandslash, Baltoy, Numel, Slugma and Torkoal.

The Mnemon Ruins is the next stop in the region. It's nostalgic of the Ruins of Alph, where you found Unown and Natu.

Stillmesa City looks like a vast prarie. Wait, it is one. In fact, the safari zone is called the "Great Prarie". The gym leader here uses Normal-types, like Kecleon and Persian. Pokemon here are Tauros, Ponyta, Miltank, Kecleon, Girafarig, Growlithe, Doduo, Zangoose and Seviper.

Skyridge Town is something. I forgot what. Maybe you catch Altaria, Flygon and Rayquaza there.

After the 5th gym, the second gym leader in the first town returns, and you learn that it's the first gym leader's twin sister. Her gym specializes in Ice-types. The gym battle happens to be a double battle, yay! The 1st gym leader uses her Cloyster, Quagsire and Sealeo while the 6th gym leader uses her Cloyster, Piloswine and Glalie.

Lands-end City is the second to last city. It is where the boat comes and goes from other regions and to other areas within the same region. The Pokemon Museum is here. The gym leader here, who is the Professor as well, is a Ground-type user with Swampert, Claydol, Camerupt, Nidoqueen and Flygon.

Blacknell City is an island which is covered in mist and dead trees. Sunlight barely shines on the city itself, and as a result there are many torches amongst the island. It looks haunted even, but the locals are rather friendly and partake in fun ghost-rituals. The gym leader here uses Marowak, Duskull, Gengar, Sableye, Sneasel and Absol. The ruined temple here resembles a Mayan Pyramid. You find the three legendary dogs here.

Lost Isle is where you find Mew. Pyreslate, Spiremist and Undersea are where you find the three legendary birds.

I hope I got us started a bit with the geography.

Well a name seems to be top issue currently. Geography, it seems that the regions have a central theme mostly, like Kanto was flat and grassy, Johto was hilly, Hoenn had a lot of water, and Sinnoh was mountainous. Also Orre for Pokemon Colleseum was all desert. So for a basis, I was thinking lakes and plains, woith islands. Like a Kanto+Hoenn mix. Also when we get more into geography I can sprite a really simple map in about ten minutes.

So names. Hmmm, something that flows, doesn;t sound forced, and would actually be the name of a place. A C or maybe an M start would be good, like TheSilverVersion said. Hmm, small list of possibilities

    -Creoh
    -Crisoch
    -Crasarch
    -Mellen
    -Mannol
    -Cregoh
    -Clalow

#1-A Name- A long time ago I made up a name for a region. I called it Koeketa. I have no idea why though.
#2-Size, Shape, Geography- I think that it needs to be in a chain of islands, such as Hawaii. You would get Surf earlier in the game too!
    #3-New Pokemon Yes/No- No
#5- Gym Leaders and Gym LEaders basic type- Not sure about Gym Leaders names, but I think that they should be mixed types. Ex. A Water/Electric Gym Leader
#8-Starers for the new Region- Just normal Pokemon as starters, like a Plusle and Minun, Baby Pokemon ect.

No, there hasn't. Maybe it could be a mix of two islands, with smaller others. Like southern nis watery and plains, northern is alpine and colder, wiht one side a desert. Something like that. And a name, Koeketa sounds cool, but its a little to close to Kanto. Hmm, How about Coelen?

I can try to make a map like the ones in the games. But it won't nearly be as nice... I like Coelon too, but as TSV pointed out, it sounds like colon. So maybe- Loeketa. That has a cool ring to it.

Well the region should only have a max of 6 letters, for some reason. Im guessing fitting it on maps. I can make a rough one in paint, just like an outline with a legend. And maybe Loeket, no more colons, and six letters.

The region should only have to syllables, like all the rest: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn and Sinnoh... Vaerto, I was thinking.

Pretty much, ok I sketched a rough map in paint, so any changes tell me, so far no cities, rotues etc. just plain terrain. Its pretty rough, so it'll ned some perfecting.

    So a legend would be

    Tan-Plains
    Light Green-Forest
    Dark Green-Swamp
    Blue-Water
    Yellow-Desert
    Brown-Mountains
    Red-Volcanic Areas
    Gray-Wasteland

In one fanfic I wrote on a while ago a region was situated north of Kanto/Johto, consisted mostly of rivers and pine wood, alp-like, but stretched to the sea in the east, and was more about plains and farms there. It was called Tahppo, and I kinda liked it.
Loeket, how do you pronounce that? When I try, it sounds almost like the word meaning "the locomotive" in my language ^^

I'm making a map right now, but it won't be done untill tomorow at the least.

Using two large main islands could be interesting, especially since they're so different. Hope the future plot will make you travel the islands often, and not just "after your fifth badge, you can finally cross tha waters" like in Hoenn. Perhaps travelling is done occasionally by boat at first... like in Hoenn as well ^^
Feels like the starting point should be on the southern Island, no? That thing SilverVersion had about companies, that's good stuff (:
