I recently heard that police officials have had a hard time locating the source of emergancies, and has led to quite a few deaths. What do you all think about this?

I mean... all they can do is try. The police are not tracking you 24/7 (despite what conspiracy theorists say) and can only do so much.

Also is there... more... to this? Examples? Statistics? Any concrete (more or less) information would greatly help starting deeper conversation on the topic.

I mean, that particular article is from Feb 2015, so keep that in mind. I can only hope there's been some improvement but given how slow bureaucracy is, I'd doubt it.
Something that's rather disconcerting is that for cell phones without GPS (and even with GPS, each location update is sent every few minutes and not continuous as one would expect during a 911 call), your location can only be determined by wherever the closest cell tower is and working from there. God help those stuck with a combination of that and not having Google maps at their disposal.

By recently heard, do you mean recently seen on Last Week Tonight? Last night?

If I am not mistaken, average police response time is about 10 minutes, and for those who live in more rural areas, it can take longer. Its pretty hard to get around this issue because the police can't be everywhere at once and are limited to a budget. Its unfortunate, but i do not know how much can be done about it without spending tons of money. I guess its about just living close to the police station haha.

I guess this combined with difficulties finding the caller can be deadly at times.
