I have a theory...that a Vulpix could FLY. Within the game, too!

Here's how it would work. Smeargle is a poke'mon that can sketch a previously used move. WELL, what if that move was fly? Then, if it mated with a Vulpix/Ninetails, since Fly is an HM move, it could be passed onto the child, making a FLYING VULPIX. O.O I kept looking over my pokemon guide and it all adds up to sense. From what I see, a Vulpix really CAN fly. HOWEVER, I honestly want to know if there are flaws withing this. I'm making a story of pokemon, and this might be a main component, so even if you don't see anything wrong, say so so that I know someone has read this and acknowledged me. xP

Umm, I doubt it. The only reason it wouldn't work is because FLY isn't an egg move, but you can always try!

Well, I understand isn't an egg move, but I keep reading the passage and it says,

If the male knows an HM- or TM-taught move, there's a chance that the move will transfer to the offspring.

This would be very fun to try with my Smeargle, but I'd need to battle it with someone else so that I know I'm getting fly. -mutters angrily under breath that she lost her S.P. yet has 5 pokemon games-

TM and HM moves only transfer to the offspring only if the offspring is capable of learning them. Vulpix doesn't learn any of the HMs so it can't get any HM moves through breeding.

It says there is a chance that the move will transfer. Maybe it doesn't work.

A TM/HM move will only transfer to the egg if the Male knows it and it is a possible egg move for the female. Fly is not an egg move for Vulpix, so it can't learn it.

Fly is not an egg move for Vulpix, so it can't learn it.
Yeah, kinda what am I gonna say, anywas I think that's the answer to the question? Or i mgiht be wrong...I dunno

So why did you reply then ;)?

If this is a fanfic, don't worry about the technicalities of the games or the show. They are both inconsistent. It's a cartoon, you can change things. There was a Sandshrew in the series that was immune to water. Not all Pokemon fit the mould entirely. I'm sure you could make something up to do with using fire to jump higher or perhaps the tails.

    1. This topic should be in the Breeder's Corner
    2. I've closed this because it has no real point. If you can't use a TM or HM on a Pokémon, it also can't learn it through breeding.
