A judge legalizes gay marriage in Utah of all places

That's awesome Utah! :D I hope this spreads to the other states too.

If anything I hope this sparks other states to legalize gay marriage as well. Progression is slow but is nonetheless present.

A judge also ruled against the Oklahoma same-sex marriage ban using the same arguments. It's pretty likely that both rulings will be studied by the SC together.

I'm pretty sure I read a few comments wrong here.

A while ago, the federal government did pass a law stating equal benefits for gay couples as heterosexual couples. This basically means gay marriage is legalized at a federal level and states need to step their game up! I don't understand why it's not fully legalized everywhere yet. Like I know Republicans tend to be more against it, but it's not their lives and it'd make more people happy, so they need to do it already.

Not exactly- the SC gutted a law that discriminated against gay marriage, and stated that all recognized marriages should get the same rights, because shunning a perfectly legally married NY couple from federal benefits was unfair.

As a result, these courts are using the same arguments to claim that any sort of discrimination against same sex marriage is unconstitutional- and it's very likely that the SC will have to decide whether they agree or not.

But, as the Oklahoma judge said "I know a historical change when I see one".
