Hey guys while i don't usually come around the anime section much i thought of something that would be a welcomed change to the pokemon universe. A more mature anime, i will go ahead and say the current anime is ok great for the kids, but the viewers who have been watching since the anime first came on it gets a little boring after a while. What i think pokemon needs to do is have a more mature anime centered around complex story lines, character development, deal with death, deal with love, just something that would be a heck of entertaining to watch. But thats my opnion what do you guys think?

I would be interested to see where a more mature spin-off would go. Would it be connected to the main ani-vetse, or a different canon like Origins? Would it be an adaptation of PokéSpe? I know there's always a call for that, though I think it works fine staying as a manga. I wouldn't mind if the main ani cast were allowed to grow up and have mature storylines while the next kid's version would follow the ones that are little now- Max and Bonnie as trainers pls.

The OP is discussing the possibility of a more mature Pokémon anime, not mature anime in general. Please fully read posts before replying and refrain from mini-modding.

I apologise. I began reading the post but had to do something and returned and just started to type, assuming that I already knew what the topic was discussing.

A mature spinoff from the main anime series would be interesting. It would be nice to see how exactly the producers would plan a series like that. I think it would be nice to somehow link it with the current series in some way, but how exactly I do not know.

I think Pokemon Origins showed signs of a more mature look at what the anime could be, which is why I like it so much I guess. The more grown up/dangerous criminal aspect of Team Rocket in it makes the Anime's Team Rocket look an absolute joke and there's no comparison. Giovanni was an utter definition of "oh god this guy deserves a slap" type character that brought out real anger and emotion. The anime's team rocket Giovanni doesn't scratch the sides. He's more cheesy to me

Obviously I'm doing a lot of comparing to Origins, but if the anime series was set up like that with those types of characters then I think it would draw in a more mature audience.

I think we have to face it, it is and always will be aimed towards kids as long as Ash is the main character.

The closest thing we have to a mature look on the anime is Serena having a crush on Ash.

Well , Pokemon can go the same level as Digimon & PokeSpe .
However writer should careful about putting to be drama.
    Like Danball Senki War !
I mean , It was just school doing a simple experiment .
But they acted the whole thing is real battle and student should see each other as enemy instate of friend.
I mean , They are like 13 year old Kids , They doesn't need know the terror of War just for stupid experiment on some Toys.

I agree orgins really good in how everything was, kinda sucks of how short the series was though. While i think the ash character will always cater towards kids, we should also have to wonder if their is the possibility of a spin off with more mature themes.

P.S The Serena thing is kinda of a more high school crush to me, as in the past it's been hinted at that Misty and May like Ash(Escepcially Misty watch episode 198: The Heart Break of Brock)

I doubt they'll make the anime any more mature than it is now. After all, gotta keep bringing in kids to watch, you know.
The hints of Serena (and all of the other previous female traveling companions) liking Ash are about as far as we'll get as far as romance-especially as long as Ash doesn't age.

If You ask my opinion , Even Doreamon seem to be more mature series then Pokemon!
Specially the movie about ''Nobita & The Steel troops'' !
Do you know there is a Doreamon episode where Nobita & Shizuka sit on a Balloon completely Naked until Doreamon found them !
    Anyway ,
Kids Anime has different category So Pokemon's maturity level depend on its category.
For example , Shin-tan is high rated Kids Anime but it also meant for Adult like the ''The Simpson''.
So which category Pokemon belong to--

    --Same category as Doreamon

    Or

--Same category as ''Dragon tail'' , ''My Little Pony'' and ''Bunny The Dinosaur''.

    Or

--Same Category as Kids Shouene Anime like ''Digimon'' , ''Beyblade'' Or ''Precure'' which are meant to Advertise & Promote a certain Franchises.

    You decide !

The thing about the main Pokemon anime is that it really isn't meant to be so dramatic. I mean, the movies are a little more mature, but the anime is watched by a lot of younger kids, both in Japan and elsewhere.
For example, in the US, a dramatic and mature anime may not go down so well, considering that American cartoons are usually whimsical and humorous in nature. I grew up with these, and it feels familiar to watch Pokemon and have some childish humor here and there. I don't think a mature anime would be best.

While i doubt it will change now(it's really late for that), i would welcome a bit more mature Pokemon anime, around the level of Digimon Xros Wars, maybe a tiny bit less.

Digimon Xros War target the same audience Pokemon does , You know !
And it increase Digimon Toy sales and it squeal was nominated for Emmy Award.
Off course , Adventure time Won which doesn't seem suitable for Kids . Like ''The Simpsons''
So You see , Kids are nothing more then excuse for Director/Writers idolcy !
So I don't think we should blame Kids for the Director/writer's mentality.

I know, but it was still more mature, most notably Digimon dying and Kiriha bleeding in the second half quite a few times.

And Boy Hunters got an award? It was a cheap rip off of Pokemon where nothing happened till the last 2 episodes.

    But it was acceptable.
Original series had a lot of mature stuff but it was still more popular then Current '''Kid Friendly Pokemon''.
The writer had to be a little careful about putting Breast on Man .
Lucario died in Movie and it nearly won an Award .
I think this ''Happy happy Pokemon world with Imaginary children with Imaginary problem'' driving all the Kids way.
May be , If this show had real children with real problem , Then May be Kids could symbolize with them.
For Example : A cold , rude , insensitive , sarcastic and Hardcore Realist Girl who's affected by her parent's divorce & neglects . She become Ash rival while Ash became her first friend.
    Like Rika Nanoka (Digimon tamer)
Such children really does exist even in Japan So The Anime should have character represent them rather the pretending such children doesn't exit.
That children are just fine when their parent neglects them and divorce.

I'm hugely fond of this idea here; it'd be pretty cool to see Ash as a grown-up adult, as well as others such as May, Misty, and Drew. Those who are already adults, like Brock, would be interesting to view what they do as an older one. I know he gave his gym up so that he could focus more on breeding, but would he possibly decide to go back sometime, or be completely retired from it and stay at home? If it's latter, which person would take-over? Would the guy still be travelling place-to-place? To put it all together, it'd be very amusing to watch a more mature (or futuristic, rather) version anime at some point in time, definitely. If they put enough effort, I'm sure things will turn out all right.

I would like it more and more, its so much carebearing right now.
As for animes, digimon is way more mature than pokemon. So many deaths, kids beating eachother , bleedings. Also , in some digimon episodes in japanese versions of course, there are even swearings lol.

I wish pokemon could be like that, they can swap characters on each seasons, change them or even story line instead of poke kid tries to be a pokemon master and he chooses same type of pokemon all the time , i think pokemon is predictible and pretty much childish. :() but does it stop me watching it? Nope! I still love it and watch it.

I don't know, he most certainly was pretty vile and non-cheese in Mewtwo Returns and even to some extent Mewtwo Strikes Back, plus in Kanto overall.

Probably because Kanto, Johto, and the Orange Islands were the only seasons that weren't cheesy. Around Hoenn was the time that Team Rocket was no longer an actual threat and more of a recurring joke and a filler to give the series an actual conflict aside from the occasional rival.

A mature anime would be an improvement, however its demographic is still younger children. If I'm not mistaken, the manga was a lot more intense and actually featured Pokemon dying.
