So I was already decided on what to do for the next one but then I realised today is Alice Cooper's birthday! More than reason enough to do a song by him.
I do this because I think he's a pretty cool guy; did some entertaining shows when he was in his prime, some good songs, and also has his own radio program (Nights with Alice Cooper), which luckily airs here in Australia land even though he records it in Arizona. Imo his show is one of if not the best segments on the radio here... which says something about radio here I suppose if an imported program is your best. Then again, it is Alice Cooper, a guy who basically transformed metal/heavy rock, and is in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and often looks like he's going to kill you. And you know you're cool when you've been on The Muppets despite the previous thing.
A song is hard to pick. I'll link a few others because they are worth checking out though! Such as I'm Eighteen (he's now 64), and School's Out (this might be a bit mean to most of people currently at school =p) and Welcome To My Nightmare (which is pretty darn chill and groovy, especially when the brass come into it).
But instead of those which could easily get their own blog entry birthday or not, I went with one of my favourites:
Alternate link!
Lyrics:
We're in trouble all the time
You read about us all in the papers
We walk around and bump into walls - a blind delegation
And we ain't afraid of high power
We're bullet proof
And we've never heard of Eisenhower
Missile power, justice or truth
We're the Department of Youth
Your new Department of Youth
We're the Department of Youth
Just me and youth
We talk about this whole stupid world
And still come out laughing
We never make any sense
But hell that never mattered
But we'll make it through our blackest hour
We're living proof
And we've never heard of Billy Sunday
Damon Runyon, manners or couth
We're the Department of Youth
Your new Department of Youth
We're the Department of Youth
Just me and youth
We're the Department of Youth
The new Department of Youth
We're the Department of Youth
We've got the power
We're the Department of Youth
And who gave it to you?
Donny Osmond!
What?!
Yay for Department of Youth - I mostly like it for the chorus alone but that's good enough. He still acts young on his radio show too, so here's to many more years of him!
(Oh, and as he is 64 this song by the Beatles is relevant. =p)
Next entry!
