Let's say May was given her own spinoff when AG ended. It was about her journey after leaving Ash.

Here are some things to think about:
Would you watch it? What kind of things would happen? Would she meet up with her rivals from AG? What would you want to see happen? Would Max be a part of it?

Describe what you think a spinoff for May would be like :D

No thanks ! The last thing I want is May to be more desirable then she already is.

She could have gotten a handful of specials like Misty, Brock, etc. got when they left the show.

When DP was airing they decided not to make any special episodes after characters left the cast, so they didnt do any that time. That's also why we never got a "Chronicles Season 2" during the DP era, because Japan stopped making those specials around the end of Hoenn. They didn't start making special episodes again till DP ended and even then it was only one episode each to Dawn and Brock.

I'm more interested in seeing a Spin-off about Misty !
May be , Misty learn that the Strongest Gym-leader has the privilege to enter any league conference but they has to win a regional Gym-leader Tournament .
So , Misty decide to enter there So she can win the league someday .
As Ash continue his journey , Misty also continue her straggle to be the best leader until the day both of them is reunited as Rivals in a League.

As far as May goes , Her spin-off probably be like a Shoujo Anime (Like Maid-Sama and Special A) Where the heroin fall in love with the guy (Drew) she hates.

They should have just continued making a set of specials for all the characters who left the show, but the writers obviously don't care enough about focusing on all characters after they leave the series, so they let them be forgotten.

I would have watched the hell out of that, honestly. I feel like she had the most character development of literally any of Ash's traveling companions (including Ash) and she's just my all-time favorite character in the anime.

I feel like her story would have just covered all of the different contests she'd enter, it'd be character driven with all of her rivals, and her catching/evolving her Pokémon. Literally the greatest Pokémon trainer in the show lol.

It wasn't that the writers didn't want to do chronicles, I think the main reason was because that no one really liked them. One reason being because it wasn't the main season.

Although I do wish May had gotten more screen time, I just don't think it would do very well. But May has been the one character, other than Max, that had appeared again after she left. Misty had a small arc with Togepi and a few specials and Dawn came back for an entire season and a special. Don't get me wrong, May is still my favorite character, just not sure if it would do well. But then again I could be wrong.

And I don't want to get too far off topic, but Famon, what would Misty do? She is a gym leader. All the episodes would be about was facing challengers. Although I guess it would actually be pretty awesome to see her go around trying to catch all water types, but that would get extremely repetitive, although pokemon is usually good about that.

I would like to see that . May isn't my first choice, but as my second favorite girl of pokemon i would more than welcome character getting its own set of specials. Her leaving after Wallace Cup left many things open and unanswered about her future growth as coordinator, how far she came in Johto Grand Festival, to what region she headed afterwards etc.

It definitely had potential to make interesting storyline out of it, and seeing some of her rivals again in action like Drew and Harley would be highly appreciated too. Judging by huge improvement she made as coordinator when returning in DP having already 3 ribbons and bunch of evolved pokemon like Venusaur, Wartortle and Glaceon i wouldn't be surprised if she even went all the way winning GF without us even knowing. And we will probably be left in dark on that regard unfortunately, unless she appears again.

Than there is also fact that she has two pokemon capable of mega evolving(Venusaur and Blaziken). Potentially three if Wartortle evolved seeing her trying to unlock secret power of her pokemon putting to good use everything Ash and rvals taught her.

Because while you could argue how mega evolution isnt necessary for contests which focus more in beauty and elegance of attacks in leaving good impression on judges. Theres also fact how May was always more similar to traditional trainers in choice of attacks and more raw, direct approach in battles relying on strength and resistance.
Which often took her opponents of guard working both for and against her.

It would be cool to see her trying to reconcile massive boost in strength her pokemon receive from mega upgrade with glamour in trying to use it to her advantage in attempts of becoming top coordinator making name for herself out there.

Not to mention with ORAS remakes out there, writers could use May to promote this games further, By making her one of star characters in new set of chronicles being perfect candidate. Since she is actually female protagonist of third generation.

Fixing lack of respect writers give to her and any ditched main characer in pokemon main anime pretending like they dont exist along with their unfinished stories. Which is sad.

It wasn't that the writers didn't want to do chronicles, I think the main reason was because that no one really liked them. One reason being because it wasn't the main season.

I dont know where you heard that, but its not true, Chronicles got just as high or even higher ratings than Hoenn episodes which aired at that times. Ratings are in here:
Episodes marked with red star represent them.

    https://pokeani.s47.xrea.com/s-title/subtitle-hoso.html

In addition DP specials taking place in BW series got rating of 7.1 which was pretty respectable ranking during that era:
    https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2011-02-14/japan-animation-tv-ranking-january-31-february-6

Reason why chronicles stopped airing isnt clear and fully known(it has something to do with specials starting to be run in different timeslot on different day) . Accompanied with staff members at higher positions of pokemon company presumably not having motivation to warrant their continuation.

But it definitely wasnt because of "low interest"(interest was actually pretty big and fandom demand to see new adventures of Misty, May, Brock, Dawn etc. yearning for years for more only further proves this).

Who says Misty would need to be at gym all the time? She took gym and stayed because of sisters incompetence not having anyone to rely on and freely travel to advance dreams, remember?

Writers could focus on Misty manging to make her older siblings start taking up their responsibilties. Introduce her parents which according to writers are alive, but abandoned daughters. Famon idea of gym leader tournament seem original too.

Misty ultimate goal is to become water pokemon master, so we could see her go on journey to enter tournaments with stronger trainers with Whirl Cup confirming how in order to reach water master title you need to win such competitions. Catch new cool pokemon(like Swanna, Milotic, Jellicent, Clauncher.). Maybe even Surskit discovering its half bug offering lot of room for growth in trying to get over her prejudices going through emotional disteess and struggle.

We could see her go on quest to collect key and mega stone to mega evolve her Gyarados.
Try to prove herself to renowned water specialists teaching her how to use water pokemon to full potential having to pass tests to prove she is ready for next step. Preparing to train with either E4 Siebold(who is water master) or idol E4 Lorelei on maybe Seafoam islands. With Lorelei preparing her to take her place one day as first E4 female using water types(E4 are marked as type masters in games, which Misty strives toward).
    Etc, etc.

Possibilities are endless to do logical progression with character.

    EDIT:
My apologies for links not working properly. I fixed it and now for those interested in ratings can see how original set of chronicles fared at that time in competing for viewers attention.

    Hope it helps. :)

I feel like you could give a spin-off series to every one of Ash's old companions, maybe only excluding Max and Tracey. It would definitely make sense story-wise in order to tie up some loose ends with these characters that get dumped off every series. Only problem is, the people at the pokemon company don't actually care about the story and its characters.

It would probably be the same as the mainstream Pokemon games, but with a different goal (being top coordinator) and an OC villain group, who'll probably be either expies of Team Rocket or a more serious group like Team Plasma. I'm expecting Dawn and rivals to make special appearances alongside with May's rivals from AG. Isn't Max still with their parents at Littleroot Town, so unless her whole family appears in one episode, we won't be seeing him for the rest of the spin-off. One thing I do like to see happen for this spin-off is possible crossover specials with other Nintendo IPs that would fit well in the Pokemon universe - seeing that they aren't planning to do so with the mainstream anime; I want to see May beating the snot out of Bowser or K. Rool.

Well May was in Johto and TR has a presence there so they could've had more compent villains from that Team get in the way of her journey if such as spin off had been made.

Anyways it's a bit late now...the remakes are already out...they didn't feature Serena getting herself a Mudkip (and or a Treecko) like how May got herself a Bulbasaur (and Squirtle), and Dawn got Cyndaquil around the time of the remakes. Well maybe Serena will get one later as I don't think May got her Kanto starter so close to FrLg's release (in Jp of course).

I really hope she gets a Mudkip (Or any other Pokemon as a matter of fact).

that would be interesting to see, however I don't see them splitting their animation team in two or dividing them at all to provide additional spinoffs. I wish they'd change out Ash and his Pikachu. Team Rocket could use a rest. Perhaps they could use an arc where Pikachu does get captured and they realize it's not worth it after all these years. Should have gone after Electrodes if you want to cause damage. . .

Not that I really watch the Pokémon anime to begin with, I suppose it would be pleasing and refreshing to see a new protagonist.

I'd watch it, but only if Harley was in it. Don't get me wrong, I like May, but her journey didn't strike as many sparks for me as Dawn's did, and she'd inevitably bring Drew and Max back with her if she got her own spinoff, and I LOATHE those two. Harley was my favourite thing about the Hoenn arc of the anime, and wherever May goes, he inevitably follows.

Definitely. I'd like to see her interact with Harley, Drew, and Solidad more, and Max in appearing in them would have been great as well. I'd also like for her to become top coordinator in this.

...Assuming she hasn't achieved that goal already (since all she needs to do after Johto is Sinnoh, and by this point, May probably would have already taken care of Sinnoh anyways).

As far as a spinoff show, I didn't like her or May especially considering they were Hina Stereotypes. If they're going to bother replacing Misty for another girl, the least they could do is make sure they didn't come across as being like the girls from Love Hina, or Maron from DBZ, or the Fiorello Fangirls from the episode Princess vs. Princess, or anything like that. Aside from that, I'm not exactly sure how they're going to actually focus on their respective Coordinating journeys especially considering that A. Contests are no longer in the vogue, B., they were extremely minor goals that really don't amount to much in the games anyways, and C., owing to the contests as implied earlier just being a side quest in the games instead of an actual goal that could lead to the end credits, there's little indication of which towns she'll have to pursue her goals, especially considering that half of the regions with contests, they don't even have contests in the games at least none the player can actually access that is (Johto and Kanto), leaving only one reliable region Dawn can utilize. I might as well point out that said one region, Hoenn, Dawn's already finished with. At least with Ash's journey, the gyms he challenges are always from the games, so we know what to expect regarding the overall duration. With Dawn and May, it will be random.

As it is, I honestly can't see a future with them, and considering KAORI, May's Japanese voice actress, pulled a Hillary Duff and retired from acting to focus on being a pop singer, I can't expect May to ever reappear. At this point, the only characters I can expect to reappear in any capacity are Iris and Misty, especially when they at least have goals that aren't directly tied to the games, actually can technically be accomplished by beating the Elite 4 and Champion, and can actually be expanded on to actually be engaging.
