    [PokeCommunity.com] Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright: Justice For All Review

    Ace Attorney Phoenix Wright: Justice For All Review
    By Impo

    Ace Attorney is a game from CAPCOM, and probably one of its best titles. To summarize my thoughts of this game, I love it. The game is funny, smart, unexpected and realistic (on some level, considering there are 'Spirit Mediums'), and will make you consider a career as a lawyer. Justice For All lives up to the success of Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright, the previous title in the series. I will cover the many things that I think makes this game enjoyable and fun to play.

    The whole Ace Attorney series is based off a lawyer name Phoenix, known for his bluffing tactics and surprising cases, who always tries to prove his clients not-guilty. Paired with his Spirit Medium Maya, the two cross-examine witnesses, investigate crime scenes, and uncover the truth. Now, that may seem expected from a game, but the way this game executes the process is astounding and amazing. All cases make it seem like you have no hope, then with a miraculous turn of events you have the courtroom wrapped around your little finger.

    The storyline of Justice For All is split into four cases, which are chronologically set time-wise and difficulty-wise. This is great, as when the player gets more adept and understands the process of the game, they get the chance to really pick their brains in the last cases. The storyline usually travels along the line of someone needing an attorney, and Phoenix jumps at the opportunity. Without revealing too much spoilers, the storyline is very intricate and detailed. The best way to describe it is a visual novel, so naturally it is heavily text based. So, in order to fully understand and comprehend the events, you can't be watching television while glimpsing at the dialogue every couple of minutes. You need to have most of your attention on the game, or you will get stuck very easily. Another thing worthy of noting is that each character has a unique personality. Justice For All does an excellent job of maintaining characters who act coherently to their personality.

    The graphics for Justice For All are wonderful creations of pixel art. The animations are smooth and the images presented are clear. I have played through this game twice, and I have not found a single pixel that has seemed out of line. The graphics of this game easily add to the player's enjoyment. After all, who doesn't love pictures?

    The gameplay is split into two sections: the courtroom and the investigation. Both places have gameplay that is very smooth. Though, it is very easy to get stuck investigating or in the courtroom, as some clues and contradictions are very difficult to spot. Of course, the game gives you subtle hints, which allows you to still feel smart when achieving the correct answer.

    One thing that I love about Justice For All is the sound. Of course, you can play the game mute and nothing will change, but the sound adds another level of emotion to the game. And if you're someone who loves to get entwined with the story, I suggest keeping the volume full blast. There are a number of sound effects in the game, and each one is consistent. Also, the music is very fitting, and tells you what to feel at certain times.

    I truly applaud CAPCOM for producing this game. It shows that not all DS games have to be simulations or fantasy animals, and allows teenagers and adults alike to be emerged in the wonderful world of Phoenix Wright. I highly recommend this game to anyone who enjoys mystery games and the Professor Layton series. Pretty much anyone. Seriously, go buy this game.

    To rate the game, it will give it a near perfect score, 9.5. The game would have scored a perfect 10, but the difficulty hinders the game, even if only very slightly. Extending on that, one of the biggest challenges in Justice For All is trying not to use a walk-through from gamefaqs to past the bits that require higher order thinking. But, this game is still an amazing feat, and I hope the series continues further.

    Rating: 9.5/10
    Go buy it. Right now.

    Bravo. Excellent review. The Ace Attorney series is my favorite game series of all time (yes, over Pokemon), and Justice For All an excellent representation of the series.

    Good review and I agree with the score.

    I wouldn't describe the game as realistic though, spirit mediums, wacky names & hairstyles, insane murder methods, incompetent judges, demonic people, coffee being shot across courtrooms etc. :P

    Thank you :) .

    And I was referring to realistic as in the methods of murder could be implicated in real life. I mean, I don't see someone imitating a game, but it could happen.

    It was a brilliant game. |D
    It was pretty damn creative too. The characters were all brilliant, as well. :O
    I could go on about it like I can with Ace Attorney or Layton. xDD;;

    Yeah, there were times that the Ghost Tricks were pretty annoying. xD;
    I loved the feeling that you got after finishing each Ghost Trick. xDD;;
    Gives you such a satisfied feeling. -w-
